The Devil gene has been a main part of the Tekken lore since T1. It started with Heihachi throwing Kazuya off a cliff because the latter was born with the gene. He gets his revenge by beating Heihachi and throwing him off a cliff(hence the trailer). In T2, the roles are reversed where Heihachi is the protagonist and the main boss of the game is Kazuya in his Devil form(at the time, literally known as "Devil" as opposed to "Devil Kazuya"). If you don't mind emulating games and have a PC that can do it, I highly recommend playing T2 and T3 sometime. T3 still holds up incredibly well, and T2 is still a pretty fun game. You should be able to pick up on the premise of T1 by playing T2. --- Hail Hydra |

At least, the second generation wasn't(GGXX, Accent Core, etc.) My favorite version of those is Reload and it's on both Steam and GoG. I would recommend checking that one out.
