Kind of conflicted on this. It's true that buffs as they were can completely break the game in your favor, especially the Agility/Evasion-based ones in conjunction with the Press Turn system; but this version also makes it so skills like Dekaja and Dekunda are near-useless, since you can just wait out the time limit. Plus, you have to wait for the Ma- versions if you want to apply them to your whole party, which means you have to apply them one-by-one in battle until then, and keep apply them as they wear off.

Yeah, for better or for worse, they look to be almost complete remakes of the Gen 4 games as they were, mechanically.

Which is a step back on many levels, when most were expecting the then-hypothetical/rumored remakes to be done in the style of Gen 8.

I always thought SMT was a TRPG. Looks like a basic jRPG now.

...SMT, the mainline series, has always been a JRPG.

There are a couple of spinoffs that are TRPGs/SRPGS (Majin Tensei, Devil Survivor), but mainline has always been turn-based, with its own twist.

I've only played a little of the P2 that was released for PSX in the US, and I remember liking what I played.

it was refreshing because the protagonist was a reporter instead of a high school student, iirc, and was a young woman instead of a teen...but I think she might have been investigating sometime going on at the local high school, but I could be wrong.

The sad thing is that what we got back in the day was Part 2 of the P2 duology; they completely skipped over Part 1, likely because Hitler (or someone or something that's taking his form) has a major role in it, but Part 1's main cast were high-schoolers, and the main character was a guy; the female MC in the second part was one of his party members in that.

The first part's PSP port was eventually released over here over a decade later, but then they didn't do the same with the PSP version of the second part...
