Male lions don't hunt because the prey will be able to easily spot their manes. They will come in to help if muscle is needed to bring down something big like a water buffalo though.

Their main job though is patrolling the pride's territory and keeping everyone safe. One male lion can take on multiple females at once and still win, that's how strong they are. Males will kill any previous cubs when they defeat the previous male and take over the pride. Very rarely can the females prevent even a single male from doing this, let alone if its brothers or cousins teaming up.

You're not wrong, but isn't it a double edged sword? Meaning most people who molest children really don't do much time at all. So with these softball sentences of 6-24 months, doesn't it stand to reason they would see that as a "fair trade"? Doesn't that remove any incentive to not reoffend when they know they can be out in as little as a few months with good behavior? No because raping and killing the child IS usually a life sentence. "Just" rape depends on the age and the circumstances. There are a ton of factors that go into charges and sentencing. Contrary to the opinions of people on CE, there is a difference between teenagers and prepubescent children. You will get less time if you rape a teenager vs a ten year old. And less for a ten year old vs a five year old. You would also get less for a 17 year old vs a 12/13 year old depending what the cut off for that state is.

They also take consent into account. Even though no 15 year old is allowed to legally consent to sex in any US state with someone older then 19/20, depending on Romeo & Juliet cutoff, that doesn't mean it was against the 15 year olds will. That will be take into consideration. Also your age as well. If you are 30 having sex with a 15 year old you will probably be getting more time then a 20 year old.

Which state, and how big an asshole the judge is are also factors. There have been 18 year old high school students who have gone to prison for years for having sex with their 16/17 year old girlfriends because the judge is an asshole with no common sense. Also each state defines different acts as different things. My state considers oral sex to be rape, same as penetration. Other states only consider penetration to be rape and other things to be lesser charges like sexual assault. Abuse is also take into account. Obviously raping someone is considered abuse and is traumatic, but if you tie someone up and/or beat the shit out of them while raping them then you will get more time.

So it isn't as simple as oh they will be out in a few months. Rarely does that happen. When it does there are other factors at play or its just because the judge is a moron. Death was take off the table because there were a bunch of dead children. It's not like they just decided to do that out of the goodness of their hearts. If someone knows they are going to die if caught then they have nothing to lose and no incentive to keep anyone alive which could lead to them getting caught.

Life in prison or the death penalty isn't a punishment for child molestation by design. The reason being if someone molests a child and is caught and they will be put to death, then they have no reason to keep that child alive and risk being caught.
