It's the same game from 2010, but now it looks and plays much better with a ton of new content including an all new 5th ending. I already know how good this game was. It's definitely one of my top 10 PS3 games. I'm interested in seeing though people who maybe started with Automata and are now coming to this for the first time. IGN - 8/10 As a Version Up of the original Nier, Replicant Ver. 1.22 does a respectable job of updating the graphics and combat of the 2010 cult classic to a more modern standard by dramatically improving its environments, animations, and performance, while also going the extra mile and adding excellent voice acting to every single character in its world. It definitely shows its age in its combat and quest design, however, and while the improvements to combat certainly help smooth things out it still suffers from repetitive enemies, mundane sidequests, and a lack of evolution over the course of the 35 to 40-hour adventure youll need to complete to see all the endings. Just push through it and get to whats truly excellent about Nier Replicant: its story and characters, both of which are still among the strongest Ive seen in the genre. Gamespot - 8/10 I'm not going to lie, Nier Replicant made me ugly-cry on several occasions. Kain, Emil, and Weiss will win your heart with their earnest and endearing personalities, making their tragic journey with you and tremendous story moments hit hard. Despite some significant gameplay enhancements, the lengths you have to go to see the story all the way through will be a test of your willpower. But for all its antiquated designs retained from the original version, it's worth the effort in the end. Thus, Nier Replicant is essential for anyone who has love for Automata, and it's a special experience on its own. Game Informer - 8.25/10 Despite some dated shortcomings, this version upgrade is more than the sum of its parts. Novel design choices like camera and genre shifts are as impressive today as they were more than 10 years ago. Main characters are dynamic with their own interesting backstories, and the plot is as deliciously devastating as youd expect. Nier Replicant might not convert players that were turned off by the original or Automata, but there are more than enough quality-of-life updates and story-centric nuances to keep longtime fans and new initiates coming back for subsequent playthroughs. Polygon If youre a fan of the series, and you can respect the audacity of these decade-old ideas, Nier Replicant is the best appetizer yet for whatever main course Square Enix will inevitably serve in the future. But for newcomers or casual fans, the caveat stands: Nier Replicant is worth the time, but only if you have plenty of time to spend. Destructoid - 8.5/10 There aren't many games like NieR Replicant, and I'm not just talking about in the modern era, but since 2010 as a whole. Whatever power that be helped Yoko Taro become world-famous, to the point where he can keep making these weird masterpieces, in any format: thank you. Twinfinite - 4.5/5 Playing through NieR Replicant felt like a fever dream at times, in the same way that NieR: Automatas reveal at the very first E3 Id attended felt like a fever dream. Its a testament to how special NieR is for it to have endured solely in the hearts and minds of its most dedicated fans for a decade, only to explode into a phenomenon that has kept the video game community talking and debating over it long after the credits have rolled. The rough edges of the original release are still present in NieR Replicant, but its clear that this game and the series as a whole will no longer just be another faded memory. Noisy Pixel - 10/10 Nier: Replicant ver.1.22474487139... is a beautiful experience and exactly how you should play this amazing game. Upon finishing, it's easy to say that it is unequivocally one of the best games I have ever played. This story emotionally moves players with the help of its character-writing, intense action, and somber tone, making it easy to immerse yourself in their world. --- |

Not to say it's better or worse but there's a sense of naivete to him that father didn't have. Although I think most of them have said that if you fell in love with the original game on PS3 you probably won't be convinced to like brother more than father but people new the game will still love it --- |

Was kinda refreshing to play essentially a bite sized Assassin's Creed game. While all those others were like 40-60 hours this platinum only took 14 hours. It probably could have used more because all the past games the protagonists had pretty lengthy backstories that made you care about them, but Aveline really only got 1 cutscene at the start and then we timeskip to when she's already an assassin as an adult. You end up just not caring about her as much as the likes of Ezio or Connor. Switching between 3 different personas was interesting with different skill sets and missions for each, but they should have made you able to change on the fly or at least fast travel to a dressing room. The whole concept of the game being a video game Abstergo put out with their Animus research was cool idea though and I liked there being a hacker to show you, the player, the stuff the Templars didn't want you to see. Platinum is standard AC fare from this era. Getting 100% synchronization, doing all the sidequests and getting all the collectibles along with accumulating various types of kills. A lot of them were the same types introduced in AC3 like hanging your opponent, etc. Overall not a tough game and I'm glad I can finally move on into the PS4 era of AC games! --- |
