It has more focus on taking big monsters as soon as possible although its story and worldbuilding aren't nearly as deep as they were in World. I think most Monster Hunter fans will take that trade though. The base game is also too easy for veteran fans of the series although it'll probably be supported for a long time and I assume more difficult challenges to come. --- |

15 years later I finally got around to finishing this one. It's definitely a step below the 3D sonics that came before it, but also not quite as bad as Sonic 2K6 either. The branching routes based on how you complete the stage is an interesting idea, but wasn't great in execution. To do anything but finishing the stage normally you have to take your time and usually kill all the enemies in a stage for either the Hero side or the Dark side. I did like the ones where you had to chase a large enemy through a stage and kill them before they reached the end though. Also the teleporting checkpoint system was probably this game's best innovation and i'm surprised they never put it in any other Sonic game. I counted finishing this one as getting all 10 endings + the final stage with the true ending then getting an A rank on every stage. I could have gone and done all 300+ possible route combinations to have them all in the Library, but it's not like it changes the cutscenes or anything it's just a list of permutations that you can rewatch. --- |
