The farthest I've probably gone on the Scoville scale is the ghost pepper. I eat spicy food all the time, grew up on Cajun and Creole cuisine so it doesn't bother me.

I just haven't tried many of the different hot sauces because some of those bottles are a bit expensive, I'm good with Louisiana hot sauce.

You have a point. It does seem fair to tax people for services received. I didn't ask for those services, but I didn't ask to be born on this land and I'm taxed for that. So, yeah, fair is fair.

But here's the thing which undoes all that. All people will see is, "Why are you getting something I'm not?" They won't see it as reparations for the descendants of victims. They'll see it as Black people getting money for being Black. That means spikes in racism, a likely increase in hate group membership, resentment from members of other ethnic minority groups, additional targeting from police, and a greater likelihood for people being passed up for promotions because, "They've had their bonus."

Like I said, ethically, the wages are due. In terms of what would result from paying people what they're owed, it would ultimate sew enough discord that it would be a burden rather than a blessing.

People were complaining that African-Americans were getting equitable treatment under Reconstruction right after slavery. There will always be pushback when policies of racial discrimination are addressed. People thought that civil rights leaders were asking for too much, too soon in the 50s and 60s.

Id be fine with it if it came strictly out of politicians politics. But to punish joe blow whos never had a racist bone in his body for something his ancestors maybe did (not all white people where here back then is what I mean. Half my family didnt come over till the world wars) is just dumb. And forcing people to pay another group of people for something they are innocent of stands to cause resentment and thus more racism.

Hell my family was treated like shit during WW2 cause we are German. And couldnt hide it well due to the last name. I have a great aunt who was assaulted and had a swastika carved into her hip. I know its not the same but just saying.

Reparations is not about punishing any group of people or individuals, it's restitution that the government pays a group of people as recompense. The local, state and Federal governments created and maintained multiple systems that barred or severely inhibited the social mobility and wealth portfolio of African-Americans for generations.

Reparations has already happened multiple times, even former slave owners received reparations.

That's what America has tried to do to black people since the first slaves got off the boat. There was value placed on lighter skin, straighter hair, more white features and the constant microagressions that black folks in the work force have to deal with on the daily.

Apparently it is from the valuation. The original reporting on it was that it was going to be valued between $12-15 Billion at $10 a share. The deal got announced as $24 billion on $15 a share. From what I heard it meant the retail investor got screwed by the suits again and it meant company stock price was too high trading over $60. So that was why people were cashing out in the after hours.

Kinda bad timing with the whole market selling off right now anyway for them to announce that.

Yeah it looks like it's going to be a rough week for the market. It seems like everything was in the red as soon as I opened my app.

It's never too late to get started on a career. Avoid liabilities like credit card debt, new vehicles, etc. Just concentrate on what you want to do and start stacking your bread. There are people that are 10-15 years into their careers and still have financial issues because of mismanagement. Once you start building a nest egg for yourself you'll feel a much needed relief.

Restorative justice is not a handout, and it's a slap in the face to even call it that. In addition to 250 years of slavery and 100 of Jim Crow. Black Americans were denied access to the Homestead Act, the GI Bill among others that provided land and access to wealth building for white people. While white people were able to live and work where they wanted, black people were relegated to ghettos via redlining and their property values plummeted after interstate highways began crossecting them.

When black communities prospered even in the face of Jim Crow, these communities were suppressed and at times destroyed and it's inhabitants massacred. The racial violence was so bad in the South that millions of black people migrated North as essentially refugees and in many places found out that Jim Crow traveled, this is in the lifetime of people that are still here.

There has never been a real truth and reconciliation to what happened, black people were just told to move on and get over it after all of the lives and capital that were lost and denied.

Texas is not a solid Republican state, I'm old enough to remember when Ann Richards was the governor of this state. It's a largely non-voting, gerrymandered, voter suppressed state. Stacey Abrams laid out the blueprint for Democrats winning in the south. There are five large cities in the state that go Democratic, voter registration and get out the vote efforts go a long way, and the Dems must engage with Hispanic voters in the southern counties.

Hey, my guy, do you understand the concept of electoral trends? I sure do. Let me sit you down for a moment since you literally don't know what you're talking about and I do.

Texas has been shifting blue like Georgia and Arizona for some time. The core issues Democrats had in Texas that they managed to overcome in Georgia come down to political organization and turnout. While Texas Democrats were better mobilized in 2020 than in 2016 due to the work O'Rourke did in 2018, COVID prevented the kind of extended canvassing that GA dem strategists worked through. (Texas dems were unwilling: GA Dems were. This is likely a factor in poor downballot performance for Dems.)

Texas was more liberal than Ohio in 2020 because Texas has a high quantity of suburbs that flipped bluewards because white college educated voters are significantly less likely to vote for Republicans. With this combined with out-of-state people moving to Texas and a broadening Hispanic vote, the state rapidly became competitive in 2018 and 2020.

The main reason Dems did not get the kind of mileage required boils down to a lack of in-person canvassing and too much hubris with Hispanic voters costing them a lot of otherwise safe areas in South Texas. Had they applied Clinton's strategies towards Hispanic voters the state would've been significantly closer; we know what a red state having its blue voters mobilized looks like, because it's happened many times in the last 15 years.

Nobody who does or researches data work for Texas denies that it's bounding towards being a blue state. The state GOP, however, is well organized and willing to ignore COVID to keep pushing that organization. As a result, it will be a protracted multi-cycle fight.

So, that in mind, you don't know anything about the state and should really stop posting about it.

Her first husband (who was also white passing) was a plantation owner and together they "bought" slaves and freed them, at times ferrying them to freedom in Canada. She amassed so much wealth that her portfolio grew to 30 million. Due to her complexion she was able to make inroads with the wealthiest and most prominent figures in California. She didn't conceal the fact that she was black to other black people. As soon as white Californians found out she was black they started calling her Mammy Pleasant.

She's not a household name, but she should be. She was able to use her status to buck the system and help the abolitionist movement.
