So what exactly are you proposing that is going to solve the problem

I'm not sure there is a solution, at least not within our current system. The duopoly has zero interest in solving any real crisis because it doesn't make them money. Too many people don't want to fix the system, because to them it's working just fine by not working for other people. Until we change that, anything else we do is putting on duct tape and hoping it holds.

I'm looking for putting the blame where it lies: Address the root causes, rather than the result of root causes.

Or maybe you're totally okay with creating more homeless people, so long as we don't break the rules of the system because the rules are more important than the people.

It's a fault of our system not working, however you want to look at it. Centrists will cry and moan anytime you go outside the system -- but then turn around and do fuck all about the problems that people face that cause people to seek going outside the system in the first place.

Biden extending the eviction moratorium the day after announcing he couldnt because it was illegal immediately after the Supreme Court said it was illegal but the logistics of ending it immediately didnt make it worth it are everything wrong with this country.

Everything wrong with this country is that congress didn't get their sorry asses up and extend the moratorium and instead went on vacation. Not to mention that they won't do anything with healthcare. Or gun violence. Or pretty much anything that doesn't involve enriching politicians and their friends. We could easily have a homelessness crisis on TOP of a pandemic. But Republicans don't give a shit, and moderate democrats don't either. THAT is what is wrong with this country.

If they didn't work, then it wouldn't effect the Cuban citizens. You can't have it both ways.

Part of the point of sanctions is riling the populace into uprising

I'm sure any day now Cubans will all rise up and start a revolution against their government. Any day... we've been at it for how long now?

You're essentially endorsing allowing people to suffer in hopes that one day they overthrow their government. How's that working out again? In the meantime people are suffering and we're supposed to be okay with it. This is the conservative mindset in a nutshell.

They don't work. They DO make people suffer. If making people suffer is the point, then congratulations, I guess?

You don't like it, change the hearts and minds of the moderate majority of voters in the Democratic Party, who you seem more than content to bitch about by trashing their proxies in Congress and the White House, rather than retooling your message to appeal to them.

Ahh yes, blaming progressives. The only play in the moderate dems playbook. "You just haven't won us over yet!" Well, when do they start winning us over? They keep making promises, then get surprised when a lot of us decide "Hey, if they aren't going to keep their promises, maybe we won't show up!" and blame us for losing, when it's THEIR fault they're losing. They aren't winning the hearts and minds of people. They're just using money from special interests like they always do, and enjoying being Republican-Lite by doing absolutely fuck-all. We have every right to trash these people when they make promises, and then don't even BEGIN to keep them. If someone doesn't think every American should have health insurance, and they think it's okay for people to be in enormous debt just to get a college education -- which is practically a necessity these days -- then I'm not sure those people have hearts to change to begin with.

Ten Things I'd like to see them add to New Horizons:

#1. The ability to move your town hall. I've always hated the location of mine, but I don't want to start all over and lose all my stuff, my money and my villagers (especially since they're all villagers I actually like)

#2. The ability to move your River mouths. I hate that we're stuck with the ones we pick at the beginning.

#3. The ability to move your airport. Shouldn't be too hard tbh.

#4. A Scythe for cutting flowers. This would destroy them, and make cleaning up your island much easier.

#5. The ability to move a house a few feet over without moving it twice.

#6. Useful Isabelle announcements. Like "Good morning. It looks like someone washed up on the beach this morning. Again. I think that's the third time in two weeks... I do hope he's okay." and "There's a shady ship docked at the far end of the Island. Just where does Redd get all that art anyway?" Just tell us who our visitor is!

#7. An upgrade to Nook's. C'mon Nintendo. Two upgrades isn't enough.

#8. Villager Tracker. I want to know where I can find villagers, without having to scour the entire island.

#9. Being able to terraform more than one tile at a time.

#10. Replace Leif and the Camel with other visitors, giving them their own shop. They are the most disappointing visitors. (Also bringing back the coffee shop would be great)

My point is that if you only embargo countries that don't have something you need, you aren't really doing it for any altruistic reasons. You're doing it for political reasons, and it's time we stop pretending otherwise. Nobody cares about cuban refugees. They care about political power over Cuba. If Cuba suddenly had a TON of oil, everyone would gladly look the other way. Just like people look the other way toward our own human rights violations, including our own politicians.
