"back" in the sense that it's no longer in hacker hands. The password and email were reset to her current ones. It is, by every account, hers again.

same thing happened to a friend a month back.

she managed to get the account recovered and password reset. But the Hackers turned on 2 factor authentication, and facebook absolutely refuse to do anything about that. Ignored every ticket and form put in about it, and at best just keep resetting the password. Friend just gave up.

There are a lot of people very eager to label others and anything as anti vax. These are usually the same people who think it is extremely important to be vaccinated, but are very eager to yell and scream at people who express any small amount of vaccine hesitancy. No one has ever been convinced to get vaccinated by being yelled at. It just isn't helpful and it you feel you can only yell at people then just be quiet instead.

Like I absolutely get the frustration with anti vax types, but you need to express some patience with them otherwise you are only decreasing the odds they'll get vaccinated. Not that you were gonna convince them otherwise, but there is zero way you are helping by yelling at anyone.
The problem is that these people are lying.

I can't speak for everywhere, but for a long while now the official policy in my state has been "if you're vaccinated, you don't need a mask. If not, mask up." Last I looked, vaccination rates in my state are somewhere around 40%, maybe?

You know how many people are wearing masks right now? Probably in the 0-5% range.

It's one thing to not trust the vaccine; I personally think the hesitancy is stupid and born of conspiracy-laden bullshit, but you know ow what? if you're content to keep isolating, masking, and taking steps to stop the spread, then you do you. I'm not your dad, just don't get anyone ELSE sick.

But nope. these shitlords are going to restaurants, supermarkets, bars, concerts, parties, not a care in the fucking world. Unprotected, and flaunting it. Policies be damned, theres no enforcement. This whole charade has proven, in a nutshell, why the honor system is a load of shit. They're lying, spreading shit, creating environments for the virus to mutate and reset us back to square one, and are so hung up on their fedora-tipping "m'rights" that they forget that their right to swing their fist ends where someone else's face begins. And right now, their fists are the very air they're breathing.

"Oh, if you're protected, why do you care?" Because I resent the fact that my elderly, immunocompromised grandparents are essentially sentenced to perpetual solitary confinement so Tweedle D. Shitlord can pretend he's sticking it to Fauci or some crap.

It took a bit to grow on me. Tonally its quite different from the first, as are the characters. But now that I'm at what I'm pretty sure is the halfway point, I'm liking it quite a bit. Definitely started out a bit button-mashy, but the game starts slapping you HARD for that shit by around the end of week1.

Also "come on man! If Mr. Minami were here, he'd say something like 'We need to biggify our numbers because MATH, kid!'" is my favorite line so far.

This is refreshing to hear from a hollywood celeb. I dont know why, but I just assume most of them are antivax due to being health freaks. Which is ironic because youd think they want something to protect against a virus.
You'd be surprised. I have an aunt who is deathly afraid of disease. She won't go into a house if a sick person has been there within a week. Sanitizes her house top to bottom three times a day. Has refused to attend parties where someone with cancer is in attendance, for fear of 'catching' the cancer (yes, I know).

She's also refused to take Covid seriously for months. Mask under nose, if she wore it at all. Now she doesn't wear one at all. Obviously unvaccinated. Still goes out to bars and concerts all the time. Hell if I know how any of this gets rationalized in her head.

But then, she's also a massive QANONer, and I wouldn't be surprised if he had a Helga Pitaki-style Trump shrine in her closet. So... yeah. Shows how well Trump's shitty misinformation shit has ingrained itself in his followers' heads.

Dark Buster knocked this out of the part with his or her post. However I would like to add a few things .

How weighty the story is matters two. Bill and Ted is a stupid movie. We know it is stupid and love it for it. So when something doesn't add up in that movie it is ok. It is just Bill and tell. However endgame in the culmination of a decade of the movies, TVs and the like. And your time travel seemingly has holes in it. People are going to question.

And the big thing that messes shit up is a Steve staying the past. This just messes so much shit up.
to be honest, I don't think it's that complex.

All endgame needed to do to get rid of this problem is say "we don't know what will happen if we do this. Its never been done before."

Like, have guesses, and theories, and TRY to correct everything for a clean closed-loop. But just admit that possible divergences are just thing you aren't equipped to speak on. No Bruce telling all these hard and fast rules, no Ancient One spelling out the path of the multiverse. Just admit you don't know the consequences, and say "fuck it, let's take the risk."

Boom. Suddenly any time travel fuckery doesn't matter anymore. and very few people will care, because their eyes are on Thanos and not your funky rules. Then you can have all KINDS of fun with the fallout.

like anything else, it depends on how it's handled. If your story treats time travel as a tool or setpiece without a lot of rule-based preamble, then the finer points of the rules can be ignored. Back to the Future 1 and 3 work so well because despite being "time travel movies," the time travel itself isn't important. It doesn't feel the need to explain why 88 mph is important, how the Flux capacitor works, or any of that. Change something in the past, change something in the present. Effects are unpredictable, and the science is a McGuffin of the highest order. The meat of the story is the characters, not the tools.

In fact, BttF2 is the ONLY one that gets raked over the coals for its time travel, precisely BECAUSE it adds so many extra elements and rules and spends so much time talking about them that it practically BEGS the audience to hyper-analyze it. The plot is almost entirely dedicated to the rules of time travel, while the first and third are allowed to be mostly character pieces.

Endgame, despite only SORT OF being a time travel movie, has multiple characters giving weighty explanations of how their time travel works, why it works, what precise elements need to happen, with added explanations from mystic sages about potential pitfalls, and then deliberately breaks its own rules at multiple points. And then Marvel doubles down on it by requiring entire series dedicated to explaining shit away. It's not audiences demanding explanations ruining the experience; it's the script INVITING those questions.

Audiences don't need explanation so long as your script doesn't demand explanation. It's not just true of time travel, but any plot. It's the same thing that plagued the first two star wars sequel trilogy movies. in 1977-1983, star wars was a simple universe. We didn't need explanations of who the emperor was, or how exactly the Republic fell. Bad guy took over, now there's lots of bad guys, fight the bad guys. It was enough.

in 2015, after an entire prequel trilogy, decades of expanded content, and a movie pretty definitively showing all the evil force users getting taken out, suddenly star wars isn't as simple anymore. A faction as powerful as the First Order and Snoke don't get the same pass as the Empire, because the audience was given decades worth of context. Some explanation of who these people are is now required for people to buy into it. Of course, we all know how this all ended up when they DID bother to explain, but that's neither here nor there.

People only demand as much complexity as they are offered. Audiences don't NEED their time travel meticulously spelled out for them; the problem is that writers can't freaking help themselves but to wax eloquent on pseudo-scientific drivel, which in turn opens up all the questions people otherwise wouldn't bother with.

tl:Dr- less can sometimes be more, especially where time travel is concerned. Audiences mostly just want what's offered, and lots of writers write checks their script can't cash.

TopicHow and why is Metroid Fusion so expensive?
DarkBuster22904
07/30/21 8:35:39 AM
#5
Retro shit has gotten absurdly expensive over the last year. likely a result of people getting bored during lockdown, very little new media of note coming out for the better part of a year (leading to them digging in their attic and rediscovering their old stuff out of boredom), and stimulus checks igniting the desire to buy extra stuff.

And the most heavily-affected series are all pretty easily traceable. It all comes down to whatever is currently trending/popular. Persona 5 R comes out, all SMT stuff shoots up in price a week later and never comes down. FFVII:R does the same for a lot of classic ps1-era JRPGs (except, ironically, FF itself). DQ XI is older, but new enough to be on the radar, and suddenly classic DQ is expensive as hell. Pokemon is a long-standing nostalgia-beast for many people; SW/Sh were likely the very next switch purchases for all those people that bought one for Animal Crossing, and that "attic effect" I described would be in high gear, here. Boom - cards and games alike explode in price. Metroid Dread gets announced, suddenly all metroid games triple in value overnight.

It's all pretty predictable at this point, if you follow the trends. Still obnoxious as hell, seeing as all these $70-$200 listing would have been lucky to hit $15-30 two years ago. These aren't rare games. There is nothing about any DS era pokemon game to warrant their $200 price tags. The value here is all artificially inflated.

He actually sort of does. Not in an "old world" sense, but his grammar and honorifics of choice are excruciatingly polite and deferential compared to basically every other character in the game. I honestly think this is why rogue-lites have been getting so much traction the past few years. despite many people's gripes with their world design, procedural generation, typically understated stories, etc, they usually do an excellent job of scratching that itch. Getting just a little bit stronger, getting one more small little power up that let's you push just a little bit farther. The entire genre is basically built on exactly that feedback loop.

There's nothing inherrently, objectively wrong with self insert writing. Shit, The Divine Comedy is one of the most respected works in literature, and thats just straight up Dante writing himself into Christian theology and filling hell with people he didn't like.

What gets me is that this just looks so... generic? uninteresting? A not-conventionally-attractive goth girl, rebelling against straight-laced parents. likely artsy streak, leading to ditching conventional education. Wants to go to France, because that's the generic, standard, go-to dream destination for these types of characters (they even acknowledge there's no real reason for it). like... even as far as these kinds of stories go, theres nothing original here. Replace Starfire with any white suburban family and you have the same story.
