There's nothing inherrently, objectively wrong with self insert writing. Shit, The Divine Comedy is one of the most respected works in literature, and thats just straight up Dante writing himself into Christian theology and filling hell with people he didn't like.

What gets me is that this just looks so... generic? uninteresting? A not-conventionally-attractive goth girl, rebelling against straight-laced parents. likely artsy streak, leading to ditching conventional education. Wants to go to France, because that's the generic, standard, go-to dream destination for these types of characters (they even acknowledge there's no real reason for it). like... even as far as these kinds of stories go, theres nothing original here. Replace Starfire with any white suburban family and you have the same story.

Yeah, look up the "Immortal She-Hulk". Basically, I guess, they were trying to fill the void Hulk left when he went horror movie? Idk. But she gets Hulk levels of buff(art is really inconsistent from what I've seen), gets super dumb, and is fueled by anger.

So basically just Hulk, but female. Unlike the original She-Hulk who was smart, extremely strong(not Hulk levels though), and capable of changing at will. Oh, and she broke the 4th wall a LOT which was fun.

To be fair, though, they did toy with this idea once in a blue moon but never did a full run on it(I think?).

It's frustrating because she doesn't NEED to be fucking Hulk. She's her own character.

Yeah, I'm not trying to say off the bat that self-inserts are bad.

It's just that most can't write them intelligently, or at least well. Most end up as just Mary Sue levels of garbage. Most self-inserts make me think, immediately, 'oh this is gonna be bad'. So that's on me. But I haven't seen enough self-insert stories that have impressed me.

Edit: but given her run of She-Hulk, I don't have faith.

The point of that happening was due to trauma. Jennifer almost got killed by Thanos, then she woke up from a coma just in time to find out Clint was acquitted of killing Bruce, you know, her cousin. All that piled up and she lost control of her Hulk.

I am not sure of the number of her books. So but sometimes these places run at a lose just to have these things out there to say hey look we put out this book that has these types of a characters in them. They are running the long game.

She seems to write a lot of one shots and graphic novels it seems, usually with very simple art styles(or working with the same artist a lot). Immortal She-Hulk lasted like...one issue and didn't do great in sales(at least, it's not listed anywhere I can see).

The only Immortal She-Hulk title I can find reference to was written by Al Ewing in 2020. Tamaki's Hulk was February-December 2017 (11 issues).

Distaste is not inherently hostile. Youre attributing things you have no evidence for to someone saying Looks dumb, Im not interested.

I didnt argue with distaste because that could easily apply to someone saying that something doesnt look interesting to them but that doesnt automatically mean hostility which is where your whole first post went with it.
