Unless I'm grossly misremembering things, they aren't woven into the actual game progression and are just watch-able from a submenu after beating the game (by comparison, Chrono Trigger on the PSX did actually insert its animated cutscenes into key moments of story progression). They were nice in the late 90's, but nowadays you could just watch them on youtube. And like Tyranthraxus said, the menu loading times are bad - something like five seconds just to get to the menu.
