Sure, in the same way that you can say that somebody who goes on a shooting spree because they stubbed their toe wouldn't have done so if that table leg didn't exist. The HOA created a problem, yes, but it's his disproportionate reaction to that problem that resulted in his death, not the problem itself. This suggests to me that this isn't just a matter of wearing a mask but is built on a history between them.

Publicly asking a trespasser to leave is not unreasonable, especially when he has committed the same offence before and been instructed not to. Publicly requesting that security escort him out when he refuses to leave (again) is also perfectly reasonable. Being discreet and polite about asking that he leave is a courtesy, not a requirement, and he has given up that privilege by insisting on creating the same problem again. When you deliberately frustrate people, you give up any moral right you might have had to complain about how frustrated they are.

Yes, that is indeed a response to the problem that the trespasser created by trespassing. Had he wished to avoid that response, he could have done so by not trespassing. Instead, he felt that he needed to piss people off, which resulted in people being pissed off.

Showing compassion to lepers is showing compassion to people that have come by unfortunate circumstances and been shunned by the rest of society as a result of how "undesirable" those circumstances have made them. He is being shunned not because of his misfortune, but because of his blatant misanthropy, and that's perfectly fair. If he were to repent and comply with the mask requirement, then yes, reconciling and welcoming him back into the congregation would be the compassionate thing to do, but so long as he's actively antagonizing them, there's absolutely no reason to expect that. He has chosen to be undesirable, so unless one can argue that his choices should not have that consequence (which nobody with a rudimentary understanding of public health can do without outright lying about their conclusions), he does not deserve compassion for being treated as undesirable.

It's fundamentally essential for answering the question "is it reasonable to kick him out?", which in turn is central to the whole incident. If it's not reasonable to kick him out, then it's not reasonable to consider him a trespasser and you can potentially make the argument that he's not the antagonist (though, as a private entity providing a non-essential service, the church has the right to exclude anyone from their property for any reason, so he would still be a trespasser regardless). If it is reasonable to kick him out, then any actions necessary to achieve that goal are automatically justified.

Quite a few. We've only been in this place since last August, so we've only got one (highly anomalous) years to compare it to, but we had far more this year than last year. Last year we had less than 10, this year we almost ran out of candy (180 pieces, 2-4 per kid, so probably 50ish total).

Well those goalposts certainly moved quickly. Finally got through to you, did I?

Physically escorting trespassers off of the property on which they are trespassing is not considered assault in any jurisdiction that I know of. There are reasonable limits to that, certainly, but if "please leave" doesn't suffice, escalating to physical force (and/or requesting that the police do so) to effect that request is quite acceptable. Any actual assault that took place in the resulting altercation was because of his decision to retaliate to that acceptable physical force, meaning he is the one that escalated the situation (in addition to creating it in the first place).

Moreover, there is absolutely no basis on which to suggest that the person asking a trespasser to leave is the antagonist. The trespasser is the one that - by trespassing - has created a problem, which makes them the antagonist. Attempts to solve that problem are merely responding to a conflict that has already been created (by the antagonist), not creating a new problem. I don't know how you ever thought you could possibly characterize it otherwise.

Now, if you want to try argue that it's unreasonable to require masks during the worst public health crisis in a century that happens to be caused by a droplet-borne virus, you can try that, but doing so is going to require looking at actual data regarding the effectiveness of masks at reducing the spread, not trying to paint people that are facing appropriate consequences for wilfully disregarding public safety as hapless victims of oppression and hate. You're unlikely to get very far with that line of reasoning, which is why the vast majority of anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers are relying so heavily on flimsy pathos, but it nonetheless remains your only option for a logically valid argument in favour of your position.

Or that failing to enact mask requirements has measurable negative effects on public health and safety? Pretty much. If the HOA's being unreasonable (likely), there are legal channels through which to fight that. Absolutely none of them include opening fire on anyone or setting fires. He was killed because he was endangering everyone around him, and while it's tragic that he clearly had mental health issues that were not resolved before leading to this outcome, you can't fault the police for killing somebody that was shooting at people. That's their job.

This is how human interaction works. To be clear, spirituality does have a non-negligible benefit as part of recovering from medical issues. Being in the right headspace works wonders for recovery, and spirituality (including prayer) can absolutely be a part of that. That does not mean, however, that his spine is going to reassemble itself because he said "please" to the right guy. That's gonna take some medicine.

Another interpretation of "what does that have to do with lepers?" is "why do you think this is logically analogous enough to your comments about lepers to be included in support of them?". I recommend approaching the question with that interpretation. In truth, I'm not focused on lepers, I'm focused on things that are actually analogous to Jesus' treatment of lepers (specifically, that requiring masks and rejecting anti-maskers is not so analogous).

The religious leaders in biblical times also set rules about the distance one could travel on the sabbath, and at east one case of prohibiting people from lifting a donkey out of a ditch until the next day. I don't think any of those were voluntary either. The church in the article seems to have followed their example but not the lesson taught using that example.

Sure it can. In a lab setting, de-barking does more good than harm. Elsewhere, it does more harm than good, so it's bad.

Now, is it ethical to put dogs into lab settings where de-barking becomes necessary for their comfort and safety? That's another question entirely. But if that premise is accepted, de-barking them is generally going to be a beneficial thing, even just looking at the dogs.

Yep. In some ways, that's gonna suck. In others, it's gonna be great. You don't have to let it out all at once, just take your time and get comfortable enough with your therapist that you feel you can trust them. If you're struggling with developing that trust, say so, because your therapist can help you through that (possibly by suggesting that you change therapists, actually, but don't jump to that conclusion).

OpenVAERS is actually a legitimate CDC initiative, designed to collect data from the general public instead of being limited to what health care practitioners see (which is inevitably only going to be a tiny subset of actual issues because most issues don't prompt people to consult a doctor, to say nothing of the risk of bias). Being so open does, of course, result in considerable credibility issues and a whole lot of wild goose chases, but it still has value as a more comprehensive picture of potential reactions.

As for why he'd go there instead, that's obviously because the bad numbers are bigger and therefore better for justifying the fear he feels. He was never interested in making a logically sound point, just in finding something that says "don't worry you're not just scared for no reason" and disseminating it so he can pretend people agree with him.

By and large, puzzle games tend not to be very technically demanding. That means old ones usually hold up pretty well because their mechanics aren't that different from what you'd see in modern examples of the genre.

The NES has some pretty solid games, but I really can't say there's any basis for considering it the best system ever. I also can't imagine any reason to feel that the Switch dethrones it, for the handful of people that do appreciate the NES enough to give it such a title.

To be fair, I wouldn't actually call that government overreach (at least, not in the usual sense). The homeowner signed on to the HOA's regulations when he bought the house (or, if it was brought in later, when he chose to stay there), this is just the government enforcing his compliance with them. The HOA is most likely overreaching, because that's what HOAs do (and, in a sense, they are a government of their own), but the government's just providing this enforcement service to that private organization.

Except everyone that does their own research arrives at the conclusion that being vaccinated is significantly safer than not. That is, after all, what literally all available evidence and data indicate. Anyone that arrives at a different conclusion either hasn't finished doing their research or was never doing it properly in the first place, because that conclusion is objectively wrong.

Arriving at the same conclusion as corrupt politicians doesn't mean you're blindly following them. It just means water boils at 100 C (at sea level) regardless of how corrupt you are.

Indeed. Specifically, it's a cell line from *one* aborted fetus from the 50's (who was aborted because the mother didn't want the pregnancy, not specifically for the sake of harvesting the cells) which has since been used in developing countless drugs and other products. That cell line can be credited with saving literally billions of lives, so while the ethics of using it in the first place were somewhat questionable, enough good has come from that decision that I feel morally at peace with the issue.

Plus, as you say, it's in bloody everything. It's been raised by anti-vaxxers as something wrong with the Covid vaccine specifically because they're desperate to find anything to discredit it, but I can all but guarantee that everyone leaning on that excuse has happily consumed other products using that cell line, likely without even looking past this month.

Even if they had, the fanbase would have torn them to shreds for reporting that they were barely playable. Cyberpunk was ridiculously overhyped and nobody wanted to hear anything remotely bad said about it before it came out and they started saying bad things about it themselves.
