it's not so much "people who don't follow mask rules are automatically stupid" as it is "after being alive for 34 years, i've realized that most people are unbelievably stupid."

also, as bad as the movie he was in was, thomas haden church was excellently cast as sandman. and elizabeth banks was a good betty brant (i guess that's kind of nitpicking since she's such a minor character, though).

i thought tobey was alright as peter parker. he's supposed to be nerdy and he pulled that off well. he was too old to be in high school, sure, but i totally bought him as a college aged dude. so when he went to college in spider-man 2, i was fine with him.

i agree that he was bad as spider-man, though. garfield still the best spider-man imo.

i wouldn't attack anyone for making jokes in the initial topic (though i don't think those were right either) but MYC literally followed jp around making those jokes for months and months

i didn't notice the robazoid bullying but one thing i vividly remember about MYC was that she went in SUPER hard on the jp fat jokes. i thought it was fucking hilarious at the time but now that i look back on it, i'm like "yeah that wasn't ok."

constantly making fun of someone's physical appearance like that just really rubs me the wrong way. it was also completely unnecessary, as there was a lot you could attack jp for that was unrelated to his weight.

now, i will say that i personally don't remember her being SUPER terrible. but i can acknowledge that i was friendly with her at the time. we were both hardcore frank zappa fans and we bonded over that, at a time when there weren't many people posting on the board i had much in common with, music taste-wise. so... yeah. easy enough to say "oh MYC was fine you were just less accepting of trans people" when you weren't a person she was constantly bashing into the ground.

also, i agree with kenri that she was very funny. turns out funny people can be assholes. who knew.

Also MYC was on the high end for comedy and was EXTREMELY abrasive about it before transitioning, so if she faced down some shitty behavior it's probably because that became an easy target for users who she'd pissed off.

yeah, for once i agree with extha.

MYC was kind of a douchebag, so if people responded negatively to her, it was probably "people reacted negatively to her being abrasive" rather than "the board was super transphobic back then."

I don't even know what it would take for this webbed site to ban a user from 2005 these days. Honestly he must have done it intentionally (whether account closure or account suicide), so I don't think anyone is celebrating a punishment per se.

in fairness, timjab's original account got banned and that one was from 2001. it's not impossible that this guy got banned too. but yeah, suicide or closure is a lot more likely.

sidenote: i don't know if anyone else bothered to watch puns's 100 minute video but if you didn't, i wouldn't bother. while it did explain a couple of things, the overall vibe was more "ok guys here's why i WAS right" than "i'm going to do some self-reflecting." i personally felt frustrated after finishing it. that post puns made was infinitely better than the video.

putting all the other stuff aside, the most important point to me was that if you're not part of the LGBTQ community - or more specifically, a trans person - yourself, it's probably appropriate to not speak so confidently and authoratively on how offensive and/or harmful chappelle's jokes and comments were. now that you finally seem to realize this, i think we can put this debate to rest and move on.
