My guess is that Geralt and Yennefer will have a much larger role in terms of politics influencing the war. As you probably know, they are nearly irrelevant in that aspect in the original story. And that's very important in terms of theme.

Why not is the better question. It literally makes no difference to the adaptation because Eskel will never play a role in the books. The other changes are more questionable, but again its an adaptation for a different audience.

Eskel is a background character in the books, hes barely in them. His death isnt a problem.

It's not a "fuck it" attutude. It's a wise acknowledgement that there's only so much you can do. The vaccine is by far the most effective countermeasure. Once it's available to everyone who wants it, you've done all you reasonably can. Everything else people are fretting about, lockdowns, masks, and mandates, come at continuing costs and very little benefit by comparison; it's the product of a delusion that if we just had the perfect government we could have complete control of a force of nature like infectious disease. There is no government anywhere that has it under control, nor could there be.

I'm 33 and I haven't been to the dentist in over 20 years. They appear to be holding up well for now. They're deeply discolored, quite crooked/crowded, and I had to get rid of a lot of tartar buildup on my own but I don't have any pain or sensitivity outside of bruxism that I now have a nighttime mouth guard for. Still, I'm pretty sure I'll break if not outright lose at least a couple by the time I'm 40.
