Considering I've seen hard drug addicts and morbidly obese people use the same phrase to justify their shit life decisions, someone using that phrase is instant red flag and cringe as hell. I think the core issue here is there is a difference between having a drink or two at a social gathering and going somewhere, and being heavily intoxicated and driving. In general I am not a fan of black and white thinking but there are definitely people on this board that think it is morally wrong to drink a beer and drive somewhere by the tone of this topic and it to me just comes off really pretentious. I also have trouble believing these people have active enough social lives that theyd ever deal with this moral dilemma in the first place. As an example this weekend for Halloween my friends are getting dressed up and going downtown, and I will be lyft/ubering there. To do this on a Saturday night in Austin will easily be $70 for a trip both ways before you even touch the cost of drinks. When you realize this it becomes pretty easy to see why someone might try to cheap out or blast through some water for an hour then drive home. I think its easy to make black and white rules like this when youre a person who doesnt have to make any sacrifices to maintain them. I cant speak for every poster here but I am sure these are the same people who last year would call me human trash for wearing a mask and going to the gym when they opened up later in the year. I think its because most people have a certain threshold where certain volumes of alcohol dont diminish their coordinative/cognitive functionality in any practical way, but once they pass that threshold they become a serious danger to those around them. Also that most IT support people that end up on-call like this don't meet the definitions for exemption and should be getting overtime pay for these situations. The issue wasnt a problem when I first joined the team and we were only getting like 5 calls a week. Now I get like 12 before 8am most days, and probably 20ish a day because theyve started paging us for everything.
