these are questions i often find myself asking myself as i get into older age. and honestly, the answer is i have none, really. there's a lot of "what if?"s and a couple of smaller things i wouldn't mind changing...but really if i had a time machine there is no thing that would immediately pop into my head and i'd think "i have to go and change that"

is your aqua terra more accurate or your black bay? don't you also have a christopher ward? Which is your favorite watch? i have a swiss with an eta 2824. a hamilton, by far the most accurate automatic i've ever had. I swear it's accurate to less than 5 secs per day maybe like 2.

hmm im actually not sure, they're both master chronometers and gain about 1-2 sec/day only. never measured exactly

ive been switching between the 2 so i can't really pick a favorite. i love the shine on the aqua terra, but the diver style looks so good too. the dive bezel is super helpful on the BB but so is the date function on the AT

yeah, the only bad thing about it is that it has no exh. caseback and not an automatic. I was looking at 2 that were, but they were like twice as much as this one. But you don't really care for exh. casebacks right?

i like it but it's not a deal breaker. i like at least one watch in the rotation with one. but really it just adds thickness and i don't look at it that often. it's a nice bonus but not a must for me. my aqua terra has one but my black bay doesnt

From what you have said, 100k is just not enough for the lifestyle you want. If you live within your means 100k is more than enough for a regular person 2.5K rent/mortgage payments, car payments and other expenses. You should still have more than 1K each month saved after all expenses.

Some ppl just really dont realize how poor their quality of life is just because its what theyve been used to their entire lives

For example, it cracks me up when ppl say they buy their clothes from wal mart because its just as good as nicer clothes

TC is right. It just isn't that much. I always had this idea in my head that once I got to certain arbitrary amounts I would feel like I had all this money and stop stressing and it just didnt happen. $75k, $100k, $10k/month. I still feel like its not enough.

This is what Im trying to say, even at my current salary I wouldve killed for years ago, I still have to make compromises like holding off on buying my Rolex

If you say so, but, it doesn't sound like you can afford it. I mean, you made a thread complaining about 100k being not much money and you are making close to that. In addition you said you cannot buy what you want to buy which you also reason is a really good investment. This signals you are hurting.

But I don't agree that it is a good investment.
1. First of all, there is too much work you gotta do just to be able to buy it. Factor in your time cost.
2. That is alot of money to put into one investment as if no one buys it for some reason, it is money you cannot reinvest.
3. It is a fragile item that can break easy.
4. It is the first thing people try to steal. You could be out one night and get robbed and all that money down the drain.
Many more better ways to invest that kind of money.

But if your intent is so people think you are rich, well, that is what it is really for.

I already specified the scenario in the op isnt my specific situation, I make well above 100k, I make over 10k a month

Rolex sells like hot cakes, no doubt in my mind they would sell asap. And you buy watch insurance for a reason, it covers robberies and damages

And I can buy the Rolexbut like you said I gotta spend my money optimally. I only have so much fun money and need to prioritize until I feel comfortable spending that fun money. I spent 200k in cash in the last 6 months, so yeah Im gonna try to save up a bit first, if only so my emergency fund isnt empty. Being pragmatic isnt fun

No point for me to buy the Rolex just to immediately flip it because that would screw up my relationship with the dealer

Yea with $500 HOA, you could have just bought a better property and take additional 100K loan and bought a 600k place. Home value will always rise but HOA is just sunk costs each month. I can understand if you live in like NYC where its majority condos/co-ops you pay HOA, but in Socal (I believe you said you live in Socal), theres really no point with all the houses you can get.

I didnt want to live in the suburbs, location is everything for me

To clarify, I live in a high rise so there is actual building maintenance and staff to be paid for

HOA also covers gas, parking, water, sewage, garbage etc

Uhhh, then why did you buy a condo that costs $3000 a month plus $500 hoa fees on top of it.

Was there nothing cheaper in the area?
Ima be honest. I make less than 100k and could buy a rolex if I wanted. But that is thing, I don't want to. I spend what I make wisely.

Because I can comfortably afford it. I live downtown of a large CA city in one of the best buildings (where several nba players also live)

Why would I downgrade location or quality when I can afford it?

And buying a Rolex would be a wise buy, they multiply in value 2.5x upon purchase. Even if you sold it asap it would be a smart move

To be clear, I could buy the Rolex, but I already spent 4k on a watch recently and am saving up for a new car. I can buy the Rolex in like a year when I feel more comfortable spending the flexible money

If you are single making 100k is not a lot if you own a home. But if you get married, each person making 100k will be plenty. Hell even if your S/O makes only 50k, thats still enough. Its gonna suck only have 1 income on a 500k house especially with the $500 HOA on top of it too. You have to think of it as an investment and you are saving money already with making your payments and rise of your home value.

This is correct, but I dont plan on getting married

I make well above 100k tho, so its not as big an issue for me (the op wasnt my specific scenario)

Should have just bought a starter home first if you can't put a bigger down payemnt and then in a couple of years move on when you make more money and you owe less on your home after however many payments.

Me and my wife put 150K down on a 475K house 5 years ago. Payments were 2K including everything but I put in 400$ a month more each month so it comes out to 2.4K total each month payment (basically putting 400$ in savings and lowering my loan from 30 years to 19 years). In a couple of years I can move to a better neighborhood/better house.

I make well over 100k so its not an issue for me. I put down 30% on my 500k condo and made it a 20 year loan instead of 30. But also dont forget the $500/month of HOA fees
