I played Hollow Knight and while it was okay I don't think it was very special.

Movement in that game is mostly terrible with only pogoing being any fun and its not used enough. Combat doesn't have enough options in it, and while most of the bosses patterns are pretty fun once you get to the end of the base game and get into the DLC bosses it becomes so hard it isn't fun. Also the story sucked massively.

Honestly not even as good as Ori 1 and Ori 2 blows it out of the water.

I've only done Ninja's 80 quest which was super underwhelming

I have a bunch more I can do I've just never gotten around to them because they don't make the numbers go up xd

If I have time before Endwalker after I level Warrior (just started today) I'll try to go do the ones I can though.

I will say if you're planning on mostly doing dungeons, don't have gear for 75-79 or so, and haven't done them yet, might wanna do the sidequests in the second half of Ahm Araeng or Kholusia so that you have upgrades to the Scaeven gear from the lootboxes.

It's not super necessary but also like, if you're gonna do the sidequest thing anyway, why not?

Yeah I'm leveling Warrior before EW comes out so I'm not going to bother with that. Not mainline leveling one of the new jobs anyway.

But I'm planning on being on right as the servers go up so I'll probably do the 2 sets of Pixie Dailies though.

Yeah I imagine a full quest log of sidequests should be like at least 1/3rd of a level or something

So you could do that + WT turn in + pixie dailies to get one of them to 71 most likely so you can start running dungeons/Bozja if you're power leveling Reaper or Sage.

I'll probably do it just to get the kickstart on Sage and then just do roulettes with them as I do MSQ on Machinist, though.

My inventory, especially my retainers, has been in a perpetual state of complete disarray since I started playing the game and I doubt it will ever change unless they massively overhaul how retainers work + the UI involved in managing them.

Also I have a habit of putting a bunch of stuff in the chocobo saddlebag and then completely forgetting that even exists. I just discovered it again today and was like "oh yeah I have all this stuff in here".

This is speculation, but Ishikawa was probably chosen for lead writer on Shadowbringers specifically because of how the DRK quests and the Azim Steppe were received, and the Shadowbringers reception basically cemented her position for Endwalker.

I mean tbf its not super unusual to promote people that do a good job and its not like there are much other ways to gauge how well a writer does than fan response in a multi-faceted thing like a game where it's not the only concern.

...But then, there are a lot of games where they don't do that at all and they fire the lead writer and go with someone else for the sequels and then the sequels suck SOOOOO

i mean, i don't really associate FFXIV with community support.

do the devs even pay attention to the NA playerbase at all???

i suppose the live letters and stuff count as community though, and yoshi p is a great communicator.

I don't think you've been paying a lot of attention then because they've literally added a number of things specifically because the community asked them to (including flying in ARR zones!). They also very clearly indicate what their roadmap is, answer why they can/can't do things, and respond to community concerns with some level of promptness nearly every time.

FF14 is practically the gold standard for what good community support is like, IMO.

It won't let me put in any gear no matter it's condition or spirit bond level, whether it's 1 or 100. Literally all I can put in it is a level 50 frying pan.

Do you mean the Armoire?

Armory chest is your equipment inventory.

The Armoire is basically just for seasonal event gear, preorder bonuses, etc. Unique stuff.

I would at the very least try to get to the first Primal which is about MSQ level... I think 20 before deciding if you wanna keep playing or not, before the end of your days.

Ideally I'd say after the 2nd Primal at level 30 and the quests immediately after it (which is where the previous version of the free trial ended before they upgraded it) which you could definitely get to, but it depends on how much you play.

Just watched it for the first time and I will definitely echo the sentiment that the first half or so was stronger than the second half. Second half wasn't bad, just not as good.

As far as origin stories for Marvel movies go though, pretty up there overall. Probably not my favorite, I liked Guardians of the Galaxy and Doctor Strange better (and Spiderman if you count that though he didn't first appear in that), but very solid.

The average queue time is just that, an average.

It might be shorter or longer- I've had queues that say 12 minutes instapop and queues that say less than 5 re-analyze and go to 10 min then 15 min then 20 min before finally popping.

It's usually (and by that I mean like 90+% of the time) more around what it says, but it does happen.

Just when the game seemed to be getting good, it set me on another series of "go here and talk to people quests." Would love to get to a dungeon at some point. I'm at Gladiator Lvl 18 now and have barely done any fighting.

You will get a series of 3 dungeons with a 4th optional one pretty soon. The first dungeon is MSQ level 16.

And yeah basically how ARR goes is slow > gets interesting > slow > gets interesting > slow > gets interesting until you finish it. On the plus side, the bits where it does get interesting definitely get better as you go along. The expansions for the most part don't have this pacing problem, which is one of the big reasons people say they are much better (along with a whole host of other reasons).

Changing your job is a trivial process and you don't lose anything if you decide you want to try something else out, so go for it if you want. If you want good/interesting stories tied to them I recommend one of Rogue, Pugilist, Lancer, or Archer.

After watching tons of new players stream. This game, I think the hype and urge to get to Shadowbringers and the general cooled down response to 4.0 has led to the unfortunate side effect of the Stormblood patch content outside the MSQ being skipped by a LOOOOOOT of people. I actually can't think of a single streamer who did Ivalice or the trials as they went through it.

If they do any of it, it seems to just only ever be Omega. I've seen a few do that.

Well you won't be able to get much farther because yeah, the MSQ does gate most content in the game including gathering and crafting!

Fishing is the only Job you can realistically level to 80 without being in Shadowbringers content I believe and that's just because Ocean Fishing exists. And even then you'll be missing a lot of stuff.

ooh that's a big win for efficiency but imo a loss for immersion. i'm not surprised there are flying mounts but i hoped there wasnt. I think it was bad for WoW in the long run. Though I'm guessing you can't fly over zones like in WoW and still have have to go through the entrances between areas

You can't fly in an area post ARR until you find and activate all of the 'aether currents' in the area (which some are locked behind MSQ progression) so you have to go through everything on foot before. It just simplifies getting around post main story. Doesn't hurt immersion as much as you would think.
