On the subject of poetics gear for new jobs, it's also a decent idea to cap on poetics and current tomestones so that you can buy the current 80 Shadowbringers gear for them.

You can get a head start now but you'll need to get the upgrade items for them. When the expansion launches they should automatically be the augmented versions.

Of course if you're doing Bozja you will probably get plenty that way.

Yeah, I know there are people who have a defined image in their head on how they want their job to look, and they re-glamour to that look with every new piece of gear that they get, and that's fine. I like the feeling of progression that comes with constantly upgrading gear, like it's a Metroidvania or something. Even if it looks bad, I'm only wearing it for a relatively short period of time anyway.

I had my original 2 fantasia forever and I changed to a Viera for a change of pace from my regular ole human and now I don't know if I have the strength to go back to it for lore of end walker lol

Ok but you will still be upgrading gear this way as you are going through dungeons. The gear we will talking about gives you the highest baseline starting stats, and if you really like the look of the job sets you can glam over them with the job armor. And then as you do dungeons you will upgrade the gear.

And sure this doesn't matter for Bozja or trusts but when you start doing dungeons with other players there's no reason to use worse gear

So in case you don't know this, you don't have to "re-glamour" every piece of gear - In your gear set list at the top right of your character sheet (presumably what you use to change jobs), you can right click any gear set and link it to a glamour plate. That means you automatically glamour every time you equip it, you don't need to manually glamour each piece every time you get it.

I have the same stance though, I don't glamour a job until it is level 80. The MMO experience of wearing a bunch of mismatched pieces of junk is classic.

I'm well aware of this! It barely matters though. Say you're starting at level 80 with no 5.X patch gear at all, you can immediately get iLvl 515 gear in Endwalker, which is only 15 lower than the best endgame gear you can get in Shadowbringers. Even then, the first dungeon is likely to have a min iLvl of 500.

So yes of course you can rush to min-max a job and have gear prepped for RPR/SGE on launch, and glamour it as much as you like. But you absolutely don't need to; and you'll be no detriment whatsoever in a Day 1 dungeon where nobody is thinking about how quickly an efficiently you can clear it. Launch week is for fun, fflogs can come a month later.

My strategy for expansions is always to make sure my main has the best available gear going in so that I can use coffers mostly on alts. More jobs = more fun!

And it might not matter as much for DPS but for Tanks and Healers those extra 15 item levels provide a significant quality of life and peace of mind boost in dungeons in addition to performing better. I don't want to worry about scraping by the minimums. Absolutely worth it.

You really get a feel for the disparity in job quest quality when doing all these level 80s back to back.

Funny how Paladin's was so terrible that the level 80 quest is instead a Gladiator quest with some Samurai thrown in, lol.

Yeah, the 80s are... not great. I've done BRD, DNC, WHM, SMN, and WAR and I couldn't tell you anything about any of them other than DNC playing Vamo'alla Flamenco one more time as troupe leader status transferred.

I've done all of those except Summoner and with the exception of Warrior they weren't great. Ninja was great, Red Mage was fulfilling. Dark Knight was fantastic, Paladin was fine.

Warrior was fantastic though you crazy.

do we know if the new jobs will have job quests?

since 70-80 don't have quests for any other job, but if sage and reaper don't then they'd be the only jobs without a quest series. so i'm assuming they will have some...?

i don't personally care because i don't do them / i skip cutscenes, but i'm curious from a design perspective since it'd create an asymetrical quest distribution compared to other jobs.

I just need to finish the blu quests and delivery moogle questline. And I think that's every sidequest in the game. Clean map for EW.

Oh wait. I have Feast of Famine too. But yeah, not doing that.

I've done MNK, MCH, RDM, PLD, WHM, AST, NIN, GNB.

NIN is by far the best of all of them, though MNK and RDM gave fantastic closure. MCH, PLD, NIN, and GNB were all kinda "whatever" (since the **real** level 80 GNB happens in Bozja), and WHM is as awful as every other quest in that job.

SMN's job quest is like...essential for understanding Fordola's character in the recent patch story. It's really weird.

SCH and BLM have some good lore in their 80 quests that will likely never pay off. MCH and AST also have good ones just because those have a very strong cast of characters. And then there's DRK's which is perfection.

Also FUCK just realized I've completely skipped the job quests for like 6 of the Hand classes afte, like...level 20. May just see how much of that I cma rush with the market board. At least they hand 60 to 70 to you for free.

Blasting through these DoH quests. When you're already level 80 it's not like you have to worry too much, lol.

I realize Elezen male is one of the least popular races to actually play, but when it comes to NPCs they always have the best reaction phases and poses.

I've only done Ninja's 80 quest which was super underwhelming

I have a bunch more I can do I've just never gotten around to them because they don't make the numbers go up xd

If I have time before Endwalker after I level Warrior (just started today) I'll try to go do the ones I can though.

DRK has far and away the best 80 quest, but most of them are pretty good. Special mention to the PLD quest, which is redeemed by it actually being a GLD quest.

What's the deal with antiquated gear? I see vendors like the calamity salvager or whatever in Limsa and this Gear Improvement vendor Seika in Idyllshire who have gearsets but i need an Antiquated version of that item plus a currency to buy it? So where does the antiquated version come from????

Antiquated weapons are the starting point for the Stormblood relics. You should get it from your lv 70 job quest.

Any advice for gearing up? Most of my stuff's ~480 currently. Not sure what my target should be to get better stuff, or which of it I can get without a bunch of grinding.

If you don't want to put any resources into it, running Pag repeatedly is the best thing though time consuming. That's 505 gear. Expert roullete will get you some additional current tomestones for 510+ as well.

Otherwise it's either crafting or marketboard.

You can buy 510 off the marketboard, which is enough to get you in to any content in the game for the rest of this week, plus to start the Endwalker storyline and be fine in the first dungeon there.

Haha, not being able to do Pag yet is part of why I asked. Will probably try using the Marketboard, though I've been perpetually poor for a while. Can't do Expert Roulette until I've done Pag either.

Eden's Promise gives 510 gear, but requires 485 to get in.

If you don't want to or can't buy the crafted set, I would say your best option is spamming Matoya's Relict to get 485 gear and tomestones you can use for upgrades to get you past that breakpoint, then swapping to Eden and picking up accessories/belt which are very efficient iLevel upgrades.

If you can afford one 510 crafted piece, get a HQ weapon. You can later use tomes to upgrade it to 520 HQ. Depending on the rest of your gear this MIGHT get you pretty close to the requirements you need.

Assuming you want to do this before Friday. You could just wait!

edit: Oh, I forgot about Puppet's Bunker. 465 to get in, 490 loot drops. That might be the play if you can Need the gear now.

Honestly one of the things I really wish they'd improve is the roulette system. I know they want to keep old content relevant for people playing through the first time but because of those people its weighted too heavily toward the earliest content available.

They need a like, lockout system or something- basically if you've gotten a certain thing you can't get it again for the next two of those roulettes you do or something. I don't think it would harm queue times too much considering the amount of people + everything being cross-data centers soon, and IMO would be more fun.

It's just kind of annoying getting Sastasha and Totorak in LDR for the 20,000th time in a row after doing them literally for 10 years already. Also there needs to be more incentive to run 567 (soon to be 5678) DR because there are a lot of dungeons in there I haven't seen in forever because there's not a lot of reason to run that roulette unless you REALLY REALLY need tomes for whatever reason.

I think they did add the level scaling thing where you can't go more than 10 below the lowest member if your party, but it's only if you're in a group.

Finished 5.3 - that was all some legit fantastic stuff. I think I'm in love with G'raha Tia.

Not certain I'll finish the remaining bits before EW launch especially factoring in the remaining trials, last raid tier and last two Nier raids, but this is close enough that I can be happy with it, I think.
