Most places do encourage symptomatic testing or testing for people that have had a high-risk exposure, though they'll often limit that to appointment-based sites that are better controlled and less busy (to reduce the risk to those present).

Why wouldn't he? Normal tests are free and provide identical service to what you'd get for more money, except possibly having to wait a minute or two longer (which would be completely negated by just choosing whatever's closest). I honestly don't even know of any private ones, though I'm sure the grotesque abomination that is the US health care system has come up with some (though even then, maybe not, because it doesn't strike me as a remotely sustainable business model).

Even if we presume he's going to a private Covid testing clinic, however, there is absolutely no reason to suspect that he would also have had a blood test/skin biopsy done for rare parasitic infestations. There's just no overlap between those services at all, nor would any doctor consider those tests without either clear symptoms or a reason to strongly suspect that was the issue.

Given that he listed it among the treatments he's using for his Covid infection, he's the sort of person that would be expected to buy into the various meme treatments for Covid (whether seriously or for the sake of his audience), and any of the other possible applications of the drug are too rare to consider as plausible explanations without a clear indication that they're the issue, I'm gonna guess he's taking it to treat his Covid infection. Occam's Razor is far from being an infallible philosophy, but when there's a simple, plausible explanation staring you in the face, invoking a bunch of implausible alternatives that rely on extremely unrealistic assumptions and are flagrantly inconsistent with what was actually said doesn't make any sense at all.

Just take the loss, dude. You're very clearly wrong here. Keeping an open mind is good and all, but when you're this ignorant of the subject matter, make sure you do a bit of research first to be able to recognize when what you're saying is completely ridiculous. It doesn't take long, and you'll spend far less time looking terribly silly.

Well, since you've pretty clearly already admitted that you've never actually had the experience you're so hilariously speculating about in utter ignorance, I suppose it won't hurt to explain the point: Getting a covid test consists of registering, getting a swab shoved up your nose by a nurse (usually, sometimes you'll get doctors volunteering, or even lay volunteers), being handed a tissue, then leaving. There's no opportunity for "other tests." Heck, there are rarely even doctors, given that it's a procedure that requires no actual medical training.

I can say with almost absolute certainty that Joe Rogan did not get a blood test while getting the test that revealed his Covid diagnosis. I can can say with actually absolute certainty that there is no reason whatsoever to presume or even suggest that he might have, given that that would have been scheduled separately and entirely ancillary to his Covid test.

Furthermore, oral Ivermectin is approved by the FDA to be prescribed for two conditions:

• River Blindness - Infestation by a parasitic worm that lives in the skin and is transmitted via blackfly bites. This disease is found only in tropical regions (read: not in the US).
• Strongyloidiasis - Infestation by a parasitic worm that lives in the intestines and is transmitted from soil into bare skin. It does actually show up in the US, but is quite rare outside of particularly impoverished populations and agricultural settings.

River Blindness is diagnosed via biopsies of the affected skin, which is not a test that would ever be performed without real cause to suspect the condition. Strongylodiasis is primarily diagnosed via a blood test, but the condition is rare enough that you'd never see that test unless there was cause to suspect the infestation (read: not as part of whatever routine bloodwork you're thinking might have been performed).

In short, it is vanishingly unlikely that Joe Rogan received a diagnosis that would warrant an Ivermectin prescription at the same time as his Covid diagnosis. There is absolutely no reason to take his comments on the matter as meaning anything other than "I'm taking Ivermectin to help with Covid." You are idly speculating on matters you clearly understand very little about, and there's absolutely no excuse for that because I knew none of what I just said before tonight (except remembering that River Blindness was a thing from my parasitology class, but that was many years ago and all I really remember is that blackflies are the vector) and was very easily able to gather the information needed to make informed commentary on the matter. So stahp.

There is actually a minuscule nugget of truth in this one: Roughly 50 years ago, stem cells from an aborted fetus were collected and used in vaccine research. That cell line has been perpetuated ever since, and used in the development and sometimes production of many vaccines (and other drugs). Specifically, that cell line was used in developing and testing the mRNA vaccines and in producing the J&J one. None of the final products contain any of the cells themselves, however.

Obviously, making use of an immortal cell line that came out of one aborted fetus 50 years ago is very, very different from the pearl-clutching "they just throw the babies in a blender and inject them into us!" sort of image people freaking about about this conjure, but it is accurate to say that stem cells from an aborted fetus have been used in creating the vaccines. Personally, I have absolutely no difficulty concluding that it is more moral to use cells from this one fetus that was already aborted anyway (that is, it was not aborted for the purposes of medical/pharmaceutical research) 50 years ago to save an incalculable number of lives through the resultant vaccines and other drugs than it would be to destroy that cell line and never use it again, but I do think it's important to have a complete, honest understand of what's happening instead of skipping the details to convince people of that conclusion.

That's the thing, though: This is not just about one's own health. If it were, fine, do whatever, but people who have refused the Covid vaccine are now making up the vast majority of hospitalized cases, and there are enough of them that many ICU's are unable to accept new patients, regardless of why those patients need ICU care. A guy died in Kansas after waiting 3 days for an ICU bed to open, when he needed the spot because of surgical complications (not anything related to taking any sort of personal Covid-based risk). That's not okay. The unvaccinated people clogging up those ICU's killed him by "making their own choices for their health."

That's the root of the problem here: when the decisions you make about your own health start hurting other people, you need to stop making those decisions. Anyone who doesn't should expect to face consequences from whatever agencies are responsible for preventing them from harming other people (namely, the government).

I don't think outright denying unvaccinated people care is reasonable, but I do think there's a need to cap the percentage of ICU's that are available for voluntarily unvaccinated Covid patients. Treat as many as possible, sure, but resources are limited and voluntarily unvaccinated Covid patients are pretty unquestionably less deserving of those resources than pretty much any other would-be ICU patient, so enough ICU beds to handle typical demands should be reserved for those other patients. Nobody should be made to die because of these idiots, because that's exactly what's going to keep happening.

We do, but I get where he's coming from here. It's similar (though different in at least one key regard) from saying that people were drinking aquarium cleaner because somebody said hydroxychloroquine cured Covid. That's very much a hyperbole that isn't entirely accurate, an inaccuracy which a lot of people overlook in their rush to laugh at stupid people. Overlooking inaccuracies in such a time of rampant misinformation can be dangerous, so it's worth making an effort to make sure they're pointed out where appropriate so as to prevent people from being dangerously misled.

That said, I don't see much of a problem with this particular instance, given that the inaccuracy in question is largely academic and therefore just adds entertainment value, rather than being meaningfully misleading. He's not wrong, this is just a case where being right doesn't matter much.

Being able to take the vaccine and deriving any appreciable benefit from the vaccine are two very different things. If your immune system is compromised, the immunity granted by the vaccine is also compromised, in many cases meaning you're still just as vulnerable as most unvaccinated people are.

Also, yes, "some immunocompromised people can take the vaccine safely" is not in any way a blanket guarantee of safety for all immunocompromised people.

On its own, sure. Do something interesting with it, though (like adding a buttload or two of fruit), and it's great. I like to sautee apples and raisins in butter, brown sugar, and maple syrup, then mix in some peanut butter and cinnamon and add all that to my oatmeal. If I'm feeling really fancy, I'll flambee the apples with rum, brandy, or whiskey, but I'm really just being silly at that point. That also makes a great topping for pancakes, waffles, or vanilla ice cream.

Compared to skim? Yeah, it is. Not compared to whole or anything that would qualify as cream, obviously, but if you're used to drinking skim (or even 1%, to a lesser extent), it's a bit overwhelming (much like drinking whole when you're used to 2% is a bit overwhelming).

It's kind of entertaining just how thoroughly one gets used to the type of milk one drinks most often. Anything richer/leaner than that is really very striking, unless you start drinking that regularly, in which case your previous favourite starts to taste weird.

It is, however, generally a better idea than buying a house you can't afford to maintain and also a better idea than being homeless. There's a lot wrong with the rental market (mostly the fact that long-term renting is a thing and there's very little being done to curb the abject parasitism that is investment landlording), but as a stepping stone to ownership, renting makes sense. The problem is that rents have skyrocketed so much relative to wages that renting tends to preclude saving up enough capital to be able to transition into ownership.

As I understand it, "chicken fried" refers to things that have been fried in the manner that chicken is often fried. "Chicken fried chicken" is generally redundant, because chicken is usually fried that way anyway, but for the sake of consistently likening it to other foods that have been chicken fried, it's not entirely unreasonable to say it that way (plus it's kinda fun).

Note: Chicken fried rice is not rice that has been chicken fried, it's fried rice with chicken in it.

It has, and D2R is also coming to consoles, but he's not entirely wrong in that the existing fanbase for D2 is primarily PC gamers. That said, D2 is well-known even among console gamers, and the fact that it's coming to consoles gives them a chance to experience it even though that focus caused them to miss out, so it's not like console folks don't have ample reason to be hyped by it.

Uhh, pretty much the entirety of Black Panther's plot relies on T'Challa being too idealistic and believing that Wakanda's "old ways" would work out if he just kept believing in them. He only ends up succeeding in the long run because he realizes how wrong he was.

For toothpaste, laundry detergent, shampoo,and soap, I tend to get larger packages that last quite a while, but not large enough to really call it "bulk" (mostly, I'm basing this assessment on whether or not I buy them at Costco). Lightbulbs, I don't go through quickly enough to warrant keeping more than 1-2 spares of each size/shape around, so I almost always purchase them either individually or in smaller packages.

Smooth works better for most applications of peanut butter (mostly anything to do with spreading), but chunky's nice to have in something like oatmeal where the texture contrast adds something to the dish.

I'm mostly just mad that the list left out Skatebird. Sure, I'm waiting for the (yet-unspecified) Switch release instead of getting it when it releases on PC next month, but I'm still way more interested in that than anything else on there.
