Ah yes, the "whacky" conservative notion that all men are created equal, and should be treated as equals. I never stopped to think about that aspect of it, but CRT being a thinly veiled "white savior" style of racism totally tracks. The idea that laws that treat people equal regardless of race/gender/whatever are inheriantly racist, and thus must be changed to benefit minorities sounds like some grade A bullshit racism.

Canada has a very racist concept in our legal system, where sentencing guidelines for someone convicted of a crime need to take into account "racial history" but only if the convicted is first Nations. The government saw the higher rates of crime committed per capita in first Nations people and decided the only way to fix that was to give them more lenient prison sentences for committing the same crime as a person of any other way ethnicity.

If you don't believe me, look up Gladue sentencing.

I remember ads in the mid-2000s trying to argue that Tales "plays like a fighting game" so you're definitely not the first to make that comparison, but it always felt kinda specious to me because like... sure, the combat does. What about the other 50-75% of Tales gameplay when you're not in combat? There's nothing in Smash regardless of which mode you play that's similar to running around towns buying new equipment, for instance. Maybe the campaign in Ultimate if we're very generous.

If someone told me Smash feels more like Mario Party than, say, Street Fighter 2 (much less something goofy like Guilty Gear or DoA) I would honestly think they haven't played any of the series in question. I accept it's an opinion one could have but personally I have no idea where it comes from.

Because it's the MCU and they didn't want you to think it was Mary Jane because otherwise you'd know immediately she would be Peter's love interest, hence why they swerved it at the end to get people excited.
But it was revealed beforehand anyway? I dunno, I guess if this was legitimately the reason then that's reasonable, but I'm not convinced it would look any different if they were doing it for completely cynical reasons.

StealThisSheen posted...
Eh, if they were hedging their bets, they wouldn't have had her go by "MJ," since now you can't have another "MJ" without killing one off. Like Biscuit said, I think they just did it because it's the MCU and they want to try to be clever about everything.
Sure they can, just have a random one-liner about it and it's fine. You can get away with two characters coincidentally having the same nickname in a way that you can't get away with two characters coincidentally having the exact same full name.

If she's meant to be the exact same character as Mary Jane why not just keep that name? "Michelle Jones" strikes me as a pretty obvious way of hedging your bets, so if the audience reacts poorly you can bring in the "real" Mary Jane later. Regardless of the weird way this argument went I'm pretty sympathetic to Lasa's original position (and I agree with Dels' last post too; this style of headline is super common and very, very tabloidy)

Are you all just rating 7 the lowest because of the epilogue? Because I dislike the epilogue too, but the adventure feel of the book itself, the overall grand scale of their quest and the fact that they were essentially fending for themselves was all stuff I loved.
I never liked the "meta plot" of Harry Potter; it was always my feeling during books 1-6 that you could basically lose the whole Voldemort side of things and only improve the books by doing so. Obviously a book that's almost 100% stuff I don't like ends up last.

And the epilogue is bad, but it wouldn't be book-ruining on its own.
