I combined a few things into one train of thought not realizing you all would explode because I was just vibing at a bar honestly

The embarrassment sentiment was driven primarily by a private chat I had with a couple friends this week about the Rittenhouse trial that opened my eyes to how differently people I've known my whole life could view things compared to my impression of them

i don't agree with certain leftists' depiction of the rittenhouse trial either but to say this makes you "more embarrassed to be on the left" is a ridiculous overreaction. you're not going to agree with leftists on every single issue in the universe. that's perfectly normal, nothing embarrassing about it.

as for the chappelle shit, i don't think "chappelle should get canceled" is an outrageous stance at all. i have mixed feelings about this myself. i personally wouldn't say he should get canceled but i also... don't really think this is my call to make, as a person who is not part of the LGBTQ community. having read post #360, i can definitely see the argument for why he SHOULD get canceled.

(also jon stewart has always kind of sucked tbqh)

i saw eternals.

...meh. it was kinda like the suicide squad, in that i had a good enough time but thinking about it afterwards, there were a lot of plot points where i was like "wait what?" there's always suspension of disbelief and stuff you just shouldn't question in these kinds of superhero movies but this movie just took it too far imo. i thought the controversial hiroshima scene was laughable, for example.

not as bad as the critics are making it out to be but yeah, this wasn't good.

I'm not saying they're always right, but I've never liked a movie that they absolutely thrashed. Except Boyhood, but I think they were reacting to the critical acclaim more than anything.

i adore redlettermedia but the boyhood review is atrocious. never understood why RLM fans love it so much.

mike completely misses the point of the movie. this becomes very obvious when he complains that the plot point of the mom being worried about the kid's driving never goes anywhere. "i was expecting them to get in a car accident! and then the sister had to go to the hospital!" he doesn't seem to get at all that it's a fucking slice of life movie. that plot point doesn't HAVE to go anywhere. it's obvious that mike wanted a more convenient movie, with the typical scene of the kid running through a hospital corridor with a concerned look on his face, filmed with shaky cam and dramatic music playing but... yeah, that's just not the kind of movie boyhood is.

...then the rest of the review is just mike ranting "this movie is garbage piece of shit it's the worst movie i've ever seen" for 20 minutes and jay laughing hysterically.

anyway, yeah, boyhood is a good example of jay disliking a movie i thought was pretty good. it does happen occasionally!

i trust jay. i love mike but his taste in movies is actually rather shitty (he literally loved wolverine 1).

jay really disliked it so yeah, it's a pass for me (at least as far as seeing it in theaters goes).

youtube movie reviewers in general are actually pretty mixed on this movie, btw.

if i'm going by "how evil are they," several of these companies treat their workers like garbage, so that's a tough call.

if i'm going by "how useful are they to me," i use products/services by all of them but i use amazon the least. so that one, i guess.

really, the thing that bothers me the most about summong salt (and other youtube channels about speedrunning) is that the videos get dated pretty quickly.

the ninja gaiden video is less satisfying to watch when you know that arcus has now lost the WR to another runner >_>

not really, he covers many different aspects of speedrunning. i liked how the mario kart 64 video was about a runner who tried to hold all possible records in the game simultaneously (and never succeeded), for example.

maybe he does get a bit repetitive at times. i'd say he's done a little too much SMB1 (and this is coming from someone who has wasted tons of hours watching people run the game). overall, i think he's done a pretty good job of keeping it fresh so far, though.

(also, speedrunning itself is extremely repetitive too, so...)

i don't find the evidence you provided very convincing. i'd say the only person who is outright "cheering on" the riots in those posts is betrayedtangy. those other posts are more along the lines of "i understand why these riots are happening."

and betrayedtangy didn't even post in the debate about the storming of the capitol, so... seems like you're doing your usual "you're all the same stupid extremists so i'm not going to bother looking up who actually said what" thing.

Am I the only one who thinks the whole idea for Spidey 3 MCU is lame?

As a reader of the comics, I predisposed to hate anything One More Day/OMIT related though. I also don't really have any nostalgic love for the old Sony films

i don't think the idea is lame but they could definitely screw it up. then again, i'm not madly in love with this tom holland series anyway. the movies so far have been fine but yeah.

spider-man 2 still the best one imo (well, into the spider-verse if we're counting the non-live action ones).

Heh I actually liked The First Avenger a little more than The Rocketeer, but to each their own.

i did too, just saying the rocketeer did that particular aspect better imo.

first avenger did other stuff better (like not having outdated early '90s visual effects).

rocketeer deserves more credit for being an influence on iron man 1, though. iron man 1 blatantly ripped off certain shots from that movie!

i think one thing that's sorely missing from both the first avenger and what if ep. 1 (and something the rocketeer did better) is the appearance of swastiskas. these are very much "kiddie" versions of stories about nazis, while in the '40s captain america comics, steve rogers was literally punching hitler.

Interesting numbers. Obviously there's a disproportionate number of minorities in that list, but given all of the screeching in the last year, I would have figured it was far more biased. This leads credence to my point about police brutality being an accountability issue rather than a racism issue.

only BT would observe that a disproportinate amount of minorities is killed by the police and conclude that "this leads credence to my point that the police isn't racist."
