How dare you, he had a family kinda thing has already been done in games anyways. Every time it's done, people are just kinda meh or not down for that life.

The immediate example in my head is No More Heroes 2. But it sorta works in NMH2 that a random minion you might've killed at one point was some big honcho's uncle because the point of No More Heroes as a series is to do a bunch of otaku shit and point out less explored flaws in the idea of playing video games. So when the game pulls shit like that, it kinda makes sense, and Travis, while a hero, is a pretty terrible guy who kills people as a job lol. NMH1 already played up the moral implication behind everything he's doing and how he's kinda treating it as a bit of a joke, even using some weird mail order weapon. But despite the series being within its rights with such a plot point being the focus of the entire game 2, people still weren't really that down with the whole idea. NMH1 just felt more focused in the end.

In TLOU2 though, you can clearly see the intention. It's a tearjerker plot point to force a sense of guilt. It just doesn't work as well because there's no adequate build up from even the last game, and the rest of the writing in the series isn't like this where there's absolutely no tell in a reasonable sense to see this plot coming, or at least make sense when it happens. They also base the entire game around the premise, so when it doesn't work, literally the whole game falls apart.

I just don't think it's done well, and I think people who defend it tend to defend it purely on the idea that it was a risky decision, and there was any sense of emotion within the story. But those are hardly criteria for good writing or direction. Flow or reason or well construed intent is far more important, and it misses on all those points.

Man, the Northland battle theme for Alchemy Star is kinda nice. The side story was really sweet too. Carleen pre-battle hardened is just a sweetheart, and Bethlehem is a nice lady though... I have no idea how old she is. Timeline wise, she might be like in her mid 30's minimum. Also Louise's forward facing sprite is cute af.

Also... I've always wondered but AS has to have like a big Live2D staff lol... I mean they just about Live2D everything, including 3 different sprites minimum per every single relevant character, Live2Ds on minor unplayable characters that we might never see again and even NPCs. Little Carleen has a Live2D, though I guess she appears in multiple scenes. Every costumes have like 2 Live2D sprites just about

I think this is the theme that's currently in the game?

Selen was barely able to type straight, but Pomu, who shouldn't be making half the tumbles she is, falling into the trap over and over was hysterical. Also Selen just casually calling her the best fairy in Ethyria, which is not Pomu's group name, and Pomu just accepting it

Problem with RH is that their highest difficulty in the 3DS remake is probably the worst thing ever because they specifically built it accounting for people buying their shitty DLCs. In the original, the game was a bit too easy, so it's too much one way or another I guess. I think if done right, they could've had a series with that same battle system though

Eh lul I don't see anything wrong with it, mostly cuz I used Idun throughout my entire playthrough. You're gonna have to build a dedicated healer at one point anyways, and I don't think having another demon for the buffs and one for the heal with the heal charge is a major dealbreaker

^Yeah, the difficulty is off in IV and IVA, which is a shame, because theyre otherwise really good.
The main modifications IV:A made were nerfing smirk and adding demon affinities. Demon whisper was a totally broken way to acquire skills and the main characters in both games completely busted though. Its just so, so EASY to get ridiculously OP load-outs.
V seems to have learned those lessons well, and also expanded well on the demon-specific skills from Strange Journey Redux in a very satisfying way. Im not even through the second area yet though, so dont spoil me bros.
Unique skills pretty much stay very very good in terms of fun-ness and usefulness of a demon. They're still mostly on the unique fusions, but regular fusion demons can have them too. They're non-transferable, but even if they were by just the essences, I'm not sure if they would've broken the game considering essences can be hard to get dupes of on the fly. Unique skills on essences are pretty much just for that same demon to re-learn their uniques if you got rid of them for whatever reason. (and yeah Strange Journey is one of my favorite SMTs too so I'm so glad a pretty similar system is in this game. SJ essences were super broken though if you know to do a certain thing to low lvl demons)

They also balance it by making a skill of an equal power level be available later on. Some uniques don't have counterparts, like dmg/heal + buffs/debuffs, but you can pretty much expect most damage based ones to have a counterpart.

Also the nahobino exclusive skills are beautiful. They're not broken but they're just very very good.

Macros are harder to detect than what's advertised. Most games and apps track a massive amount of clicks because such an information is pretty cheap to store, but automated detecting for macros is extremely inconsistent, and a false positive is incredibly bad PR. I think your macros have to be pretty blatant, like tapping a single point for like an hr in inhumane speed or something like that. Otherwise people tend to click on pretty consistent spots when doing repetitive repeating, so it's difficult to say if doing say... 3 sets of consistent button presses in a fixed interval will actually be detected as macro. Personally I think after 3 different presses, it's probably impossible.

Honestly if companies care that much about macros, the solution is pretty simple. Just slightly randomize your button placement or have scrolls be a part of the repeating process. But that will probably tick off every player instead of just the macro users.

Also most macros have detection prevention, which makes miniscule adjustments so they don't get detected by simple conditions just turn that on and your chance of being detected goes from low to statistically impossible.

It's rare enough that when you encounter it, it might be confusing on the fly, but on specific cases you'll appreciate the thoroughness.

In Americanalavania, you can have a parking ticket turned by pointing out the obscurity of the signs. Doesn't always work but it's usually in the city's best interest to be more specific, cuz people who ignore it are then at fault

Press turn is fucking terrific. I think it's not great in every game, like SMTIV horribly understood this system and just made it so press turn abuse basically meant that was the end of the fight. SMTV lowered general power level to the point where press turn does what it was supposed to, which was to provide a set of half turns where you can either choose to do dmg or do support. In a lot of RPGs, they have a bunch of support shit that has to be broken to be worth wasting a turn for. But press turn basically makes it so that you can get 1/2 of a turn by abusing a weakness and then using that half turn to set up something else that you'd not like to use a full turn for.

Like when was the last time in an RPG where you thought strategically skipping a turn was a smart move? (I'm not talking where passing a turn gives some like inherent damage bonus like in BD or anything like that) There's a clear penalty that you can't turn that half turn into a full turn even with a crit/weak hit. But the strategic benefit is so high that you'd pay that cost when necessary

It's a genius system, even though it's so simple. I think SMTV devs understand this system well enough. I love that you can still get half turns off a half turn turn. Some SMTs just make it so that you don't get an additional turn if you're on a half turn. I think that's an ok system, but SMTV power level is low enough where that would've been too much punishment

Press turn system isn't always great. But SMTV press turn is chef's kiss. Turn based either gets too stupidly complicated or too simple and loses most strategy, and press turn is this sweet spot in between. Also fuck SMTIV, but Apocalypse was really good. I forget what they did to mitigate the shittiness of how SMTIV's base handled their press turn and stupidly high burst potential.

One thing I gotta mention, the characters in the Miku gacha game are really growing on me. I mainly like Leo/need and Nightcord at 25:00 members so far, and luckily they were the 2 groups focused so far in the side stories.

Leo/need is mostly about 4 childhood friends who grew apart for various reasons, though one of them had poor health and was physically unable to hang out with them. But once she's able to get back on her feet, she transfers back to their school only to find that 2 of them don't even really want to talk to her. They work some shit out through time and practice and bond over the fact that the frail girl Saki, who is normally upbeat if not for her health, is on the verge of working herself to death just to make up for lost time with her best friends. Pretty touching story, and Saki in particular is just likeable.

The first side story was on Saki, and it was pretty touching as her friends learn just how much she's overworking herself despite her poor health. Also the song Stella which was unlocked in the process of the side story's duration was a terrific song thematically and just general feels wise.

Nightcord at 25:00 is weirdly enough the most relatable. These 4 compose music online and have never met each other. Their lyricist, Mafuyu, seems like a regular model student, and the song composer is a genius girl named Kanade who composes to honor her sick father and to atone for blaming herself for being unable to save a friend with her songs. Mafuyu, however, is mostly putting up a front to meet her helicopter parents' expectations and the expectations of all the people around her, but she's depressed and unable to feel joy in anything except from Kanade's songs and writing lyrics. She nearly shuts herself off in the virtual world where an emotionless Miku accompanies her, and Kanade and the rest of Nightcord tries to find a way to save Mafuyu from a horrible fate.

Also one interesting thing about Nightcord is... well I didn't unlock all their stories to know for sure, but I'm pretty sure their MV maker Mizuki is probably a crossdresser but haven't told the rest of the gang? Mizuki uses boku, is just about the flattest person aside from the other guys, and is supposedly hiding a secret. Also the fact that Mizuki wears cute clothing is considered "weird" is a big tell. Thought it was an interesting tidbit, and hopefully Mizuki gets a side story too

Current side story is on Mafuyu. There are obvious spoilers that Mafuyu is basically this like mindbroken mess, but it's sorta the Nightcord's main storyline, so you can't exactly understand what their main goal is without that knowledge anyways :P. There's a whole marionette theme going on because Mafuyu herself kinda feels like her family's doll

Honestly kinda makes me forget that this was supposed to be a Miku game first. They're more or less a crutch to get you to be invested in the human groups' stories tbh

Holo in general likes to set up collabs beforehand, most likely because of all the legal shit they had to deal with in the past. Cuz Youtube actually does punish for other youtubers being in another person's vid if they're dealing with strikes or something, they probably try to avoid surprise guests most of the time.

But HoloJP occasionally does it just usually on non-gaming sphere. Zatsudans are pretty common, and I do remember Pekora did that surprise Mario Party stream where anybody can join, and Micomet joined by pure coincidence. But surprise collabs are a rarity even amongst NijiJP, so it's more of a traditional thing I think.

HoloEN2 in general is a lot more close knit though, and IRyS is currently acting as a bit of a wild card and bouncing in between people's streams. I think Sana and Fauna don't tend to actively do collabs as often as Bae/Kronii/Mumei, though Mumei generally usually only does stuff with Bae and Kronii

Sana was also weirdly missing for like a month, which probably killed a lot of momentum here

NijiEN is a bit more loose, but HoloEN to me has higher quality of streamers overall. I'm afraid NijiEN just doesn't have anyone on the level of Kronii for one thing, and there's slightly less yuri baiting. Kronii/Mumei kinda thing I don't think exists yet on that level in NijiEN. Though I will admit, I rarely ever watch HoloEN 1st gen, aside from Ina, really.

Probably the one that comes closest to me to Holo quality is Rosemi, who is just this insane natural comedian. But even then, it just kinda feels like something is missing. Also she kinda has to do everything, while HoloEN tends to have a lot more overall production value and bigger behind the scenes staff. Also shout outs to Ame for doing the Halloween stream. NijiEN hasn't done anything remotely like that yet

That's not even to mention HoloJP, who have a bunch of monster streamers and talents. For how many people are in Niji overall, it still feels like they have less talents than Holo. NijiJP has like Kuzuha or Tsukino Mito, but even Mito kinda feels like she hasn't had a huge moment in a long while. Not many times you can do crazy shit on April Fool's without feeling too repetitive either. Their concerts also feel a bit less professional than something as grand of a level as the types of lives say Suisei does. Heck, Astel did a better show than I've seen any popular NijiJP guys have ever done, and I'm pretty sure he's given a bit less budget and assistance. At that point it's just talent diff

But on another hand, I've grown so far away from Kiara in particular. I used to really enjoy her streams, but over time she kept shedding what made her entertaining. Like she's clearly perverted, and her thing with Calli felt entertaining and on the side. Why try to distance herself from all that shit? Her stream with Kronii in D2 reminded me why I found her entertaining to begin with, and that's clearly her like baseline personality. What even is she without it?

Also finally I can rid myself of that annoying yellow dot notif on top of the extra chapters in AS >.>. It was a bug I think cuz they probably didn't add the story in time. Happens when you beat the latest ch, which btw was fantastic. I think the way it ended was semi-paralleling the intro to the story but now with way more friends (or waifs)

Meanwhile the extra story is a loli Carleen and Beth during their school days in Northland O_o. There already was a live2d sprite of little Carleen but she seemed a bit diff from the extra ch art. I guess I have to play and see if those animals actually made a 3rd live2d for Carleen, not counting costumes.

It Takes Two sorta had the everybody's number 3 game of the year aura, where their favorite wasn't nominated. Also they tend not to represent about half of the gaming industry as a whole, aka most stuff from Japan except select western loved Nintendo games.

I can think of at least like 10 games better than it this year, like SMTV, Tales of Arise, New Pkmn Snap, Monster Hunter Rise, Inscryption, Metroid Dread, etc. Also most of the continuously supported games were pretty good, like Apex probably had their best year this year

Yeah it's a bit weird, but it's common for gacha games to be mad about data mining. It kinda has to do with hype.

They kept Bethlehem under wraps for quite a while now, and they know she's gonna be a subject of massive whaling, and not knowing when she's gonna come will result in people impulse pulling and having to spend when she does arrive.

AS hasn't had that much rampant data mining, but there's one particular guy who pretty much uncovered like months worth of content. He can only seem to get image assets but AS seems to have a lot of them in the game in advance

No, Ina is flat as a board. So flat that you can use her as a balancing tool. So flat that she makes you question whether or not the earth is truly round or whether or not roundness even exists. She's so flat that if you view her from the side, she disappears

Speaking of flat, Nenechi being sandwiched by 2 flat idols Suisei and Towa and talking about not being able to feel their booba is some sort of energy. I'm really excited by their 3d xmas show

Also the rpr/Selen/Qu-chan's horror game spree stream is probably one of the funniest shit I've seen. I feel like it pretty much had everything you can possibly want from a scary game stream. Honestly Sky Strikers/Orcust/Salamangreat/Altergeist era or some mixture of it was probably the most skill-based meta they had in forever. I feel like during this era they were super afraid to replace the tier 1s and piss everybody off that they held this meta for so long that people hated it lol. Yeah but another thing is like murderers are often just formerly law abiding people who got caught up in a heat of the moment. I'm not gonna call these people evil specifically, as their definition of normal was perturbed, but the actions speak for themselves. Just because you haven't committed crimes up to that point doesn't excuse the crime that has been committed now.

Japan certainly swept it under the rugs considering the gravity of it, and they really shouldn't complain about being asked to pay reparation. The biggest problem is that the reparation has to be so fucking massive that it's also unrealistic for them to follow through without imploding themselves. But yeah sucks

If we're talking like modern meta in all the relevant card games, saying modern YGO doesn't have resource management interaction is flat out wrong. Not even that long ago, the game had stuff like Altergeists that literally lost if you run out of trap cards, or Sky Strikers that lose if you run out of specific extra deck monsters, which admittedly happened less the more elemental extra deck mons they got.

You have 15 extra deck spots, half of which are situational, meaning a lot of time you only get to do the big core combo once, and the rest are working with the resource you have left

Also most hand traps are once per turn or have specific costs, which are also resources. They're necessary but also reduce your combo potential, so either you pop off with bigger combos and bigger board or have protection in your hands, and going second you side for more hand traps

Compare that to playing like modern-ish MTG, Hearthstone, Pokemon, Shadowverse, or Vanguard which I've all played at a decent level, the only real strategic difference is that YGO skips the resource generation and has longer combos (this is debatable between metas in other TCGs that sometimes have way longer combos than YGO, but I don't think anything tops YGO's Ritual Beasts in terms of combo length lmao)

If you wanted a comparison between using mana as resource, YGO is like skipping the early game jank or boredom and just jumping straight into mid-late-topdeck game. To complain about it lacking resource or barely using normal summon probably means you haven't played it in a decade.

Also literally nobody playing ygo right now complains about Synchros or even Xyz because inherently they're minuses for the sake of a bigger of the sum of the resource you've used. They're balanced and made the game way more interesting. Extra deck as a mechanic is far smarter of a resource pool than manas because they're inherently more complicated and take away from a lot of the RNG jank. Smart side decking and extra deck decisions make mirror matches barely feel like mirror because a lot of cards exist and ppl have preferences or reads

However, ppl playing nowadays hate links or pends. Pends have been out of meta for some time, but people realized how broken the mechanic can become at a drop of a pin when Pend Magicians or briefly PePe were tier 0 lol. Links were interesting, but they ended up being stupid versions of synchros and xyz that got too generic and too broken too quick

Honestly he wasn't even that bad before the internet hit him like a truck. I've known a lot of people under similar condition, though they lived in special capacity with assistance, unlike Chris' parents who kept trying to force him into normal conditions even though people were always gonna shit on him regardless of context. But they tend to always view things in ways that I might consider a bit outlandish or inefficient, the same way they might view what my thought process is as equally inefficient. It's just difficult to come to an understanding when your minds are geared in such different ways

But yeah I feel like despite his condition, he was doing alright til he started getting cyberbullied. Of course everything he did afterwards started to be his fault, but I can't imagine he'd be the same way entirely if nothing started the snowball

Cinemassacre Truth is crazies doing memes, but I think the part about them associating with a pedo is true, but not currently. I think the fat guy did defend the pedo a little more than it was comfortable.

Honestly the worst thing about them is that like 2-3 of them started acting like big shots, and the Cinemassacre subreddit was like who the fuck are you guys. That shit was pretty funny

I semi-enjoyed the 3DS FL as well, but if it's gonna be as barebones basic hack n slash rpg like the original, I dunno what the mobile format would bring to the table.

Ngl though, been busy with all sorts of things. Been neglecting most of my gachas. PAD having the worst meta in several years certainly doesn't help

Yeah Figure Fantasy is a bit rough around the edges. I'll say I enjoyed those like puzzle sections where you have fixed goals and units to use. Those showed the potential of the battle system but in actual practice, there's not much reason to change your main formation around.

For AS, honestly if you do optimal ST, you end up with way more of its currency than you need for like 2-3 weeks. I'm fine with it being suboptimal I guess

Also Bethlehem hype
