Let's be honest here -- if somebody dropped out and they've gotten by fine without a GED, why would they just decide to go back for it later on? Unless they need it for something, they're going to go without.

I never finished my MBA (because I switched jobs and went from an employer who covered 75% to one who covered 0%) and, considering it hasn't really made a difference, I'm not sure I'll ever go back and that's something that actually *can* have an impact, unlike a GED. My bachelors was discussed while interviewing for my first few jobs after college, but after that everybody has always looked at work history or, more likely, it's a connection I either already have or a personal recommendation so even the previous work history takes a bit of a backseat in the discussion.

Dad's credit card definitely helped with 'getting by'.

Absolutely. I think that's part of the reason that people balk at the term?

And I mean, you could call it 'toxic femininity' or argue about whether it should be called 'toxic masculinity' when applied to females or not, and I'm sure that makes people pissed off/confused. I hope that people that disagree with the ideas of 'toxic masculinity' can at least realize that those that believe it exists in some capacity still acknowledge that anyone can be toxic, and that we need to help everyone in preventing suicide.

I took a girl on a camping date back in the summer. We had met once like 10 years ago and both obviously had the hots for one another, so it finally happened.

I found that she was really pushy with boundaries (time, 'this is what's happening with me today so you're along for the ride'). She wasn't vaccinated, and claimed to be 'really' afraid of needles, and her own father wasn't talking to her over it. She wanted to watch Titanic, and told me she hadn't graduated high school.

It took me a while to reflect on all of this because I got pretty consumed with school right away after. I also pushed back when she posted a:

I've dealt with intrusive thoughts, and while I advocate talking about them, I think you need to precurse a conversation of that sort. Instead of...literally posting images and phrases that could be very triggering to those that experience them. I'd rather see your face saying "I'm dealing with violent intrusive thoughts and need someone to talk to".

I feel like an asshole eventually cutting people off, but I have literal schizophrenic friends that communicate better than this lady. she followed me again today (didn't know she unfollowed me) and I really don't want to read the message she's sent me even though I said we should still be friends lol.

I believe that there are attributes reinforced in males that are toxic. Obviously not all males are toxic, and obviously females can be toxic too. These 'negative' traits have unfortunately been gendered as masculine, but I believe it still worth addressing.

Can you empathize with certain elements of that @Revelation34 ? If not, all good. Suicide and depression are definitely a silent killer of men, and that's part of the issue - silence. A male tendency, that is not inherent, but learned (in my opinion), to put forward an attitude of resiliency. A tendency to not communicate emotion - and hell, maybe that IS a problem of all people. Kids learn it from their dads and their moms. From *cough* (sorry), all genders.

Still, I have observed a lot of men that have more difficulty discussing their emotions. It doesn't mean they aren't capable, but I think a lot more communication can help men. Yes, there is a suicide crisis among men. I don't think discussing 'toxic masculinity' puts the blame on the victim. I think it is discussing something the victim has sadly been victimized by - the male tendency to defer emotional communication and project strength. I know some of this is circumstantial evidence from me, but it seems to pan out in the data that we all share a concern regarding.

I don't think many kids get to decorate parts of the house that aren't their own room with video game posters, and it seems unlikely that he'd do an interview in one of his kids' rooms. I think that explanation is less likely than that he either has it up because of his own interests or (more likely) put it up and staged the interview in view of it to make a subtle appeal to some of the younger demographic that is generally leaning more toward the NDP these days.
