Finally picked it back up and played through it from start to finish. Got almost all the secrets and maxed out nearly every upgrade path.

I think the game pretty much perfectly captures the classic Doom formula, while updating things to make it feel fresh and exciting. The secrets are generally really well hidden and fun to find, and the balance between exploration and rip & tear gameplay is nicely done imo. The guns are all fun as shit to use, and I found myself actively switching between all of them

The story fits the game pretty nicely as well. It doesn't try to be anything narratively groundbreaking, just something interesting enough to keep the Doom Slayer moving from area to area without it feeling like a random arena shooter. Seems like there's a lot more to find story wise in the logs you pick up, and I really like that. It's very Metroid Prime style

The music is the best part though, holy fuck. I'm usually a very careful, conservative player when it comes to most games. Moving slow, conserving health and ammo, using cover when I can. But when something like this hits, you can't help but go ape shit and play dangerously:
