Why did she apologize for that?
This is why: https://www.seattletimes.com/nation-world/alexandria-ocasio-cortez-apologizes-after-tearful-present-vote-on-israel-iron-dome-funding-bill/

However, Ocasio-Cortezs decision to effectively abstain attracted ire from some liberal supporters.

Normally I find AOC a person with moral values This time though, as a few other times, I must say she shouldve stuck with other Squad members, wrote one person on Twitter. Another said, AOC primes people to believe she will never compromise, then does. Meanwhile, an opinion piece accused her vote of being a tactical mess and a worst-of-both-worlds solution, and suggested that it indicated she could have higher political ambitions.

Describing her actions in her letter, Ocasio-Cortez wrote: Yes, I wept. I wept at the complete lack of care for the human beings that are impacted by these decisions, I wept at an institution choosing a path of maximum volatility and minimum consideration for its own political convenience.

She added: To those I have disappointed I am deeply sorry. To those who believe this reasoning is insufficient or cowardice I understand.

She was not explicit about the reasons for her change of heart but hinted at a lack of time for substantive community consultation, as well as hateful targeting and the creation of an atmospheric tinderbox of vitriol.

The $1 billion funding for the Iron Dome system, which is designed to counter short-range rockets and mortars from Gaza militants, was originally part of the wider government spending bill. However some liberals threatened to vote it down, upending the entire spending package.

As a result, Democratic leaders opted to instead strip out the Israel funding provision and make it a stand-alone bill, which passed Thursday. The procedural maneuver, however, flared tensions among Democrats, with Ocasio-Cortez slamming the process as deeply unjust.

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her partner Riley Roberts were followed and shouted at by a group of pro-Palestine protestors at a movie theater in Brooklyn, New York, on Friday night. The pair were filmed walking away from a handful of people who demanded that Ocasio-Cortez call the crisis in Gaza a genocide.

Ocasio-Cortez kept her cool throughout most of the minute and a half, but at the end turned on the group and said they would edit the content out of context before she added, Its fed up. And youre not helping these people. And youre not helping them.

The two were filmed attempting to get away from the group at the beginning of the video. Ocasio-Cortez is seen shaking her head but staying silent as one person said, You refuse to call it a genocide. She then turned to face the man and said, I need you to understand this is not okay.

Its not okay that theres a genocide, youre not actively against it, the man replied. Youre lying! Ocasio-Cortez called as she and Riley went down an escalator.

Im lying? the man asked. You went on TV and avoided talking about it. The group then followed Ocasio-Cortez down the escalator.

A woman then said, If you cant call it a genocide then how before Ocasio-Cortez rounded on her. The pair quietly spoke back and forth before the woman said loudly, Were not lying you havent been calling it a genocide. Dont tell me Im lying.

As the group moved down a second escalator, the woman yelled, Over 30,000 people are dead, AOC, you cant just say it for once? Just say the word, thats it, thats all we want you to say.

The group then continued outside the theater, where Roberts pleaded, Stop. Okay? Stop. The woman replied, Were not going anywhere. Were just talking to an elected public official, thats all were doing, thats it.

Ocasio-Cortez gestured broadly at the camera and said, Youre going to cut this and youre going to clip this so that its completely out of context. I already said that it was. And yall are just going to pretend that it wasnt, over and over again. Its fed up. And youre not helping these people. And youre not helping them.

After the International Court of Justice ordered Israel to prevent genocidal acts in Gaza in January, Ocasio-Cortez did not expressly call the catastrophe in Gaza a genocide but said that no one should toss someone out of our public discourse for using the term.

The fact that [the ICJ] said theres a responsibility to prevent it, the fact that this word is even in play, the fact that this word is even in our discourse, I think demonstrates the mass inhumanity that Gazans are facing, she added.

Whether you are an individual that believes this is a genocidewhich by the way, in our polling we are seeing large amounts of Americans concerned specifically with that word. So I dont think that it is something to completely toss someone out of our public discourse for using.

TopicLauren Boebert Fans Say They Ditched Her After Bizarre Facebook Photos
Humble_Novice

https://newrepublic.com/post/179527/lauren-boebert-fans-ditch-bizarre-facebook-photos

Representative Lauren Boebert hasnt alienated just potential voters. She has also pushed away her former campaign volunteers, who feel the congresswoman used them just to get power.

Things havent been going well for the Colorado Republican lately, whose public image has taken a major hit since she and a date were caught on security footage groping each other during a performance of Beetlejuice. The scandal is a major reason why Boebert is struggling to gain popularity in her new district.

But trouble began to brew long before Beetlejuice, a former Boebert volunteer told The Washington Post.

She has a bad reputation with her volunteers at this point, Savannah Wolfson said in a story published Monday. She just kind of uses you and then leaves.

Wolfson said that she and some of her friends had noticed last year that Boebert was sharing many weird photos on Facebook. It looked like the representative, who filed for divorce from her ex-husband in May, was constantly at frat parties.

One of Wolfsons friends texted Boebert to warn her to be careful about her choices and her posts. Boebert just responded with a kissy face emoji, Wolfson saidbut it felt more like a kiss off.

It seemed as if Boebert was saying Bye, bitch to the people who had helped get her elected, Wolfson said.

Boebert, who currently represents Colorados 3rd congressional district, announced in December that she was moving and would run for election in the 4th district. She billed the move as a necessary fresh start for herself and her sons following her divorce.

While the 4th is a GOP stronghold and will likely send a Republican to Congress, theres no guarantee that that Republican will be Boebert. As of late February, only a third of Republican primary voters said they backed the MAGA lawmaker.

Boeberts fellow candidates have repeatedly slammed her for carpetbagging, and many voters expressed serious skepticism over her ability to represent their district well and over her personal charactersomething brought further into doubt by her former volunteers revelations.

I dont appreciate, as a Christian, people saying theyre Christian to get your vote and then turning out to be a lowlife, and now I just kind of think of her as a lowlife, Judy Scofield, a retired university employee, said in February.
And to think Trump still has the audacity to endorse this freak.

https://www.rawstory.com/trump-fans-missouri-caucus-wellman/

Donald Trump supporters at the Missouri Republican Caucus on Saturday attacked fellow attendees who supported the former president's opponent, a prior member of the "grand old party" reported.

Former Lincoln Project veterans affairs adviser Fred Wellman, an ex-Republican and current Democratic campaign consultant, reported the aggressive development on social media. Wellman also recently hit retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, a Trump adviser who played a prominent role in efforts to overturn the 2020 election, with a sanctions bid in a defamation lawsuit.

On Saturday, Wellman conveyed information he said he received via text about the caucus in Missouri.

"I have a friend who attended the Missouri Republican Presidential Caucus today," he wrote Saturday. "They asked Nikki Haley supporters to line up in the middle of the auditorium and were booed and screamed at by the Trump supporters."

He continued: "They attacked fellow Republicans. Feel like democracy to you?"

Quoting a reported follow-up text from the source, Wellman then said, "The woman who spoke for Haley couldnt stop shaking and crying. It was so scary.

Someone in the comments wrote to Wellman, "Those Dale Carnegie courses didn't take..." He responded, "Nope. Do you think those folks will vote for Trump in November?"

Columnist Lynn Schmidt reported having a similar experience when she caucused for Haley in Missouri on Saturday.

"Made to feel intimated and scared for standing up for what's right," Schmidt wrote on social media. "Haley supporters were told to line up 2 x 2 in the middle of the floor of the gym, while Trump's supporters, who are also our neighbors, booed at Nikki's candidacy."

Humble_Novice
03/03/24 7:31:54 PM
#1
https://www.businessinsider.com/white-supremacist-fight-clubs-race-war-2024-3

A network of white supremacist fitness clubs is spreading across the US, recruiting men to prepare for what they believe will be a race war.

The groups, known as "active clubs," target disaffected white men by offering a sense of community, with members regularly meeting to practice martial arts or work out.

But the groups have a much darker agenda that's rooted in white supremacist ideology.

Their Telegram channels reveal their extreme views they are filled with neo-Nazi iconography, racist and antisemitic memes, and negative news articles about people of color and LGBTQ+ people.

"They are quickly becoming one of the most prominent vectors for white terrorist radicalization in the United States in recent years," Jon Lewis, a Research Fellow at the Program on Extremism at George Washington University, told Business Insider.

"They're training for what they view to be this kind of inevitable race war, this inevitable violent clash for the future of civilization," he added.

One former member of an active club told Vice News last year that the group would slowly introduce extremist ideology to new members by making racist jokes and talking about stories in the news in which ethnic minorities attacked white people.

"They believe that there's an inevitable cultural war that'll come and because they tie culture directly to race, a culture war means race war," they said.

"They never were like, 'You need to learn how to fight so you can beat up people of color. It was like, 'You need to learn how to fight because people want to kill you in the future,'" they added.

Although many far-right groups once aligned themselves with former President Donald Trump, most have since grown disillusioned and criticize him for not doing enough to advance their extremist agenda.

"The groups I track have long since turned on Trump," Tischauser said, adding that some viewed Trump as a "puppet to Jewish interests who steals their nationalist rhetoric to win votes" and who "cannot be counted on to enact nationalist policies."

In one video, the Central CA active club also hit out at the former president for not being a true "revolutionary."

Some clubs have also taken to mocking and fat-shaming Trump and his supporters.

A video posted by the Alamo active club on Telegram shows clips of Trump rally attendees, all of whom appeared either overweight or were people of color, captioned: "Average conservatives."

The video then cuts to shots of white men sparring and lifting weights with a caption saying "average nationalists."

A Telegram channel run by the owner of the Lewis Country Store in Nashville, which is associated with the active club movement, also regularly mocks Trump for his weight, something he has been seemingly sensitive about in the past.

While some in the movement see Trump as a useful tool for helping shift policies to the right, their distrust in the political system likely means many won't vote or show support for any political candidate, Tischauser said.

Many of the groups believe there is no political solution and advocate for a societal breakdown from which a white ethnostate can emerge, Lewis added.

"They see a violent revolution, a violent racial conflict as the only way to get to their desired end state," he said.

New details are emerging about the crimes allegedly committed by Rep. Lauren Boebert's (R-CO) son, who was arrested this week for going on what police say was a crime spree.

Westword reports that police have released more information about 18-year-old Tyler Boebert's alleged actions, and they include robbing a woman with a brain tumor who said that she only had $75 "left to her name."

Overall, police say that Boebert and three underage friends were caught on surveillance camera breaking into people's cars, taking any credit cards they had inside, and using them to go on a shopping spree.

Police say the Boebert-led crime ring is comprised of three males, including Boebert, and one underage female with whom Boebert "supposedly made a sex tape."

Boebert was easily identified in surveillance footage due to the fact that he was wearing a sweatshirt that featured the logo of Shooter's Grill, the restaurant that his mother once owned with her estranged husband before becoming a congresswoman.

In total, Tyler Boebert was hit with four counts of criminal possession of a financial device; four counts of criminal possession of ID documents; a count of conspiracy to commit a felony; four misdemeanor counts of ID theft; three misdemeanor counts of first-degree criminal trespass; three misdemeanor counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor; and three counts of the petty offense of theft of less than $300.

Rep. Lauren Boebert was almost entirely ignored at a major debate earlier this month in the Colorado congressional district she hopes to claim.

Only one of Boeberts fellow Republican candidates in the crowded District 4th race deigned to levy an attack against the headline-making MAGA firebrand, reported the Colorado Sun.

At GLAMOUR we are all about embracing your body exactly how it is - and that includes your body hair. If you're wedded to your razor and prefer your skin to feel as slippery smooth as a dolphin, you do you, but if you'd prefer to embrace your body hair in all its glory, that's also bloody amazing.

That's exactly why we've long been a staunch fan of Esther Calixte-Bea - a Montreal-based artist whose photographic series, Lavender, is a self-liberating photography project about body hair and femininity. She uses her Instagram account to showcase her body hair in all its glory alongside empowering messages which inspire her followers to shun unrealistic societal beauty standards and expectations.

Her latest post is a prime example of her empowering mission. Esther shared a photo of herself and like-minded body hair activist @laetitiaky to remind their followers of the power of supporting each other online and it's a lesson to everyone online.
To be honest, I kind of agree with Calixte-Bea in that women are constantly suffering due to unrealistic beauty standards set by society.

Over 300 people were detained in Russia while paying tribute to opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who died at a remote Arctic penal colony, a prominent rights group reported Sunday.

The sudden death of Navalny, 47, was a crushing blow to many Russians, who had pinned their hopes for the future on President Vladimir Putins fiercest foe. Navalny remained vocal in his unrelenting criticism of the Kremlin even after surviving a nerve agent poisoning and receiving multiple prison terms.

The news reverberated across the globe, with many world leaders blaming the death on Putin and his government. In an exchange with reporters shortly after leaving a Saturday church service, President Joe Biden reiterated his stance that Putin was ultimately to blame for Navalnys death. The fact of the matter is, Putin is responsible. Whether he ordered it, hes responsible for the circumstance, Biden said. Its a reflection of who he is. It cannot be tolerated.
Russia continues to be a threat to the world and its own people.

Looks like "say her name" is also another reserved phrase.

I aint reading that but as a white guy I dont give a flying fuck about what other white people think about whats best for black people.
It's not just white people though. There's this sentiment that non-Black folks should not use certain words reserved for the Black community out of respect for their boundaries. I kind of get it since we've largely taken a lot from Black culture while rarely ever giving back to them in return.

I can see both perspectives on this issue. While the origins are uncertainsome attribute it to the passing of a Filipino street artist while others claim it was prevalent within the black community prior to thatlet's set aside the debate and focus on the appropriation of black terminology.

Far too often, terms originating from the black community are distorted beyond recognition when they leave the community. One glaring example is "woke."

Initially, "woke" signified a heightened awareness of systemic racism. Now, it's broadly used by those on the political right to dismiss anything they disagree with.

The term "haters" has undergone a transformation. Originally, it referred to individuals who had unjustified animosity, seeking to dampen others' spirits for no reason. Today, it's applied to anyone with legitimate grievances or criticisms.

"Karen" was once specific in its meaning, but as it went beyond the black community, it has been appropriated by certain individuals on the right to attack women who express opinions differing from their own.
I do get why some within the Black community are protective over their culture, but gatekeeping the term "rest in power" isn't exactly a popular move especially when solidarity is at stake here.
