That's an interesting difference, I wasn't aware of that.

Yeah, here in the US the entire case is considered a matter of public record once court is adjourned and verdict rendered unless the court issues a court order that seals the case in some way (juvenile convictions are generally considered sealed records once their cases are completed so as to not affect their adult lives).

In the UK, you cannot talk to anyone about what happened in the jury room, ever. Not even a therapist or a family member.

Though you can discuss what went on in the court room after the trial.

That's standard practice for countries that employ trial by jury. It exposes the jurors to outside opinions, allows discourse between jurors that happens outside the court's control, and it discloses details of the case to unrelated parties.

Well, it's your civic duty to answer the summons and present yourself for potential selection. Actually being a juror is a personal commitment that you need to ask yourself if you're comfortable with, IMO (or in the very least trumps the "civic duty" when it might involve something that you have doubts about -- and in all fairness I think the court system acknowledges that because they want quality, fair-minded, considered jurors so taking the stance that you would be a bad juror for what may be involved is a reasonable claim to make).
