Have been avoiding the message boards and the DQXI topics on the board from fear of spoilers.

I've logged 69 hours and am at the Final dungeon of the main-game

Party level is 70-73 (did the electro light exp trick) and have done 46/47 side quests (what is up with this and where is the last quest?). I have explored the world throughly but I've still missed a few recipes and monsters for the bestiary.

I guess I will worry about all that after I beat the game and start tackling the post-game content.

I have a few questions for the people who have already completed post-game
*Warning contains heavy spoilers for people who haven't completed act 1 or 2. So look away if you are not past that point.
Q1. How much content does post-game have? (About how many hours?)
Q2. How many total side quests are there and are any quests missable?
Q3. Any reason I should hold back from levelling up more? I don't want a new character or Veronica to return severely underlevelled compared to my current party.
Q4. Actually not really a question so much as a rhetorical one. This is the ****ing best Dragon Quest game and it isn't even close. How can a game like this be THIS good in 2018?

Still the best Tales game.

For a while I had Vesperia tied or ranked higher than Symphonia but after multiple replays of both over the years, Symphonia was the better game.

Symphonia > Vesperia > Berseria > Abyss > Phantasia > Xillia > Graces f > Hearts R > Eternia > Destiny > Legendia

Ones ranked after Xillia are meh to downright terrible games at best

Haven't beat Zestiria or plan to because the first 10 hours or so was a ****ing slog and people say it gets worse.

I'm kinda sick of the series at this point but Berseria (despite its flaws especially typical Tales mid-game lull) makes me look to the series' future more postively.

Oh hey. Those are my favorite DQ games as well.

For me the series goes

VIII > V > III > VII > VI > IV > I > IX > II

VIII is a Top 100 game for me, V and III are games I enjoyed a lot. The rest range from above average to merely good with DQII being the only truly bad game. IX was also disappointing on so many levels after coming fresh off the heels of DQVIII, the pinnacle of the series.

I don't have strong opinions about XI yet but it is definitely not any lesser than VIII so far but nor is it better yet.

I'm only 7 hours (in the Hot Springs Town) in but so far this is basically DQ8 2.0. I expect it to pick up though.

Wow. So few votes and barely any mention of Xenogears. More people here need to play it and try to comprehend its truly spectacular story.

WTF I just got platinum but I haven't gotten 100% completion yet. Still have a few suit mods and upgrades left. Gotta go get gold in some taskmaster challenges I guess.

This may just be my favorite super hero game alongside Arkham City. When the dust settles I don't know which one I'd say is better overall but right now I am just really glad I got to play a truly amazing (pun intended) Spider-Man game. Everthing I expected, it delivered and more.

Onto Dragon Quest XI.

Actually I'd like people to say what is the best story they have experienced in a video game. Those are just my personal Top 10.

Geez is it that good? DQ stories are usually very tropey cliches (beat all of them except 10 since it is online JP only) but not outright bad or anything. It just takes a backseat to the lore, atmosphere and gameplay

I'm really excited because I'm almost done with Spider-Man and that is the next game I'm gonna be playing.

We need a damn Xenogears remake with a fully playable disc 2.

I wanted to love this game but each of the traveler's path was so boring and repetitive I burned out of it after starting chapter 4s.

It is repetitive in the sense that it follows the same formula of story-dungeon-boss but I thought Primrose's was amazing. Ophelia, Olberic and Alfyn was great. Cyrus, H'aanit, Tressa was good and the only one remotely bland was Therion's and even his story picks up immensely in the later chapters.

But the best part about OT is not its writing or its story. It is its ****ing magical Open 2D World, the immensely addicting gameplay and just the overall feeling of playing something grand and epic. I honestly thought it wouldn't resonate as well as it did with me since I'm a 3D > 2D any day guy.

This is rich coming from someone who probably hasn't played anything from the past few years.

And take it from me. I have beaten over 1000 (close to 1100 now) games in the past 3 decades and probably most of the well acclaimed games to have been released.
Gaming has never been better. It is an absolute privilege to be a gamer in this day and age.

Leave it to Vlado's logic where being poor automatically makes games of this generation bad.

The Secret Final Boss battle was truly one of the most epic fights I've had in a JRPG. It wasn't nearly as difficult as some people on the Octopath message board made it seem but it was in every sense of the word, epic.

That build-up and having to use all 8 Travelers to go up against Galdera, with all that foreshadowing in each of the Traveler's tale made the battle all the more exciting. I liked how the two forms mixed it up so that strategy was vital to survival and gave you a sense of going truly all-out without holding absolutely anything back. And also, that OST, holy **** it was awesome and befitting of a Final Battle.

I'm throughly impressed by what the game has put up throughout and really look forward to games of similar nature in the future.

Easily the 2nd best game of the year behind only God of War and a must play for every fan of the genre.

Game starts off with a bang but then starts getting monotonous because of its repetitive nature and kinda goes out in a whimper. It is a pretty good experience overall but one that you probably won't replay.

So you decide if it is worth 25 bucks.

65+ for all characters? Jesus christ

Right now my highest level character is Ophilia at 51. Rest range from 30-48.

I hope there is a good place to grind because the highest exp I was getting was around 600 in the higher level main game areas.

Absolutely loving this game, far more than I ever thought I would. I seriously thought I'd seen everything there is to see in the JRPG genre (after having beaten nearly 200 of them) but this game kept proving me wrong.

An open-world 2D JRPG with very interesting self-contained character stories and an engrossing battle system that keeps you on your toes and mechanics that are very satisfying to exploit. Not to mention how vibrant the world is despite being in 2D (I'm one of those 3D >>>>>> 2D guys) with character sprites.

Anyway, I've just beaten Ophilia's fourth chapter and I'll likely be done with everyone's in a day or two.

I'd like to know the best possible team to tackle the post-game shrines and the Secret Final Boss. Right now my main party has been Ophilia (main), Cyrus, Olberic and Therion but I doubt they are the ultimate team. I heard really good things about H'aanit and Tressa when combined with the Advanced Job Classes.

And which Advanced Job Shrine should I go for first?

Suggestions please.

As far as ranking the stories (Ophilia completed, everyone else ch.3 completed)

Primrose > Olberic > Ophilia > Cyrus > Alfyn > H'aanit > Tressa > Therion

Everyone's stories range from good-great to Primrose's amazing but Therion's is kinda bad although I love his character.

Definitely my 2nd favorite game of the year so far, behind only God of War.
