Not nearly as memorable as Uncharted 2 or 4.

Not even close. It is a very good game but it isn't even the best game in its own series.

An amazing first half shrouded in mystery and terrifying atmosphere which captured the feeling of playing Resident Evil 1 for the very first time. It felt a true reboot and redefined survival horror but then second half devolves into what the usual Resident Evil sequel corny cheesy plotline would be during it's second half. Endgame really dropped the ball in not just story but the structure of the game as well, topped off with a terrible final boss fight if you can even call it that.

On an unrelated note. I'm about to start Fire Emblem Fates in a few days but seeing that those games just straight up lost to Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and Resident Evil 6 in story is really giving me a motivation crisis. And those are three full blown RPG plots so it is a huge time investment.

So I ask the people who played those games, are those just hyperbole hate bombs for ratings or is it worth investing my time in those games? I'm generally a gameplay > story guy but those two aspects are very close so story does matter a lot in a game to me.

Another game that everyone squealed and clamored over like a schoolgirl during release but then proceeded to cast it aside like a leper after a certain amount of time passed just like MGS4.

I'm in the same boat as I am with MGS4. Which is I loved those games the first time and still do. Infinite's story, characters and even the setting is better than the original BioShock. The element of mystery was also just as good. I experienced a whirlwind of emotions throughout the game and peaked with the ending. The twist was done so well and although not the first one to do something like that, it was how it was delivered that stood out for me.

One of the all time greats in video game stories without question for me

That's actually sooner than I expected.

Man I can't wait for 2022 to begin and 2021 to end.

Elden Ring
Horizon Forbidden West
God of War sequel
Breath of the Wild sequel

2022 could be the second coming of 2017 if everything pans out.

Chrono Trigger has turned into a timeless classic for me over the years. There isn't anything that it does that is mind blowing but what it does with its simple time travel story, it delivers in spades.

It really helps that the characters are so vibrant with each having their own memorable theme. Over the years, the CT party have become iconic in JRPGs and that prestige adds to the story. The dialogues also feel like they have more weight to it because of how tightly paced the story is.

New Game+ also really helps revisiting Chrono Trigger from time to time. I believe it is the first JRPG to have that feature and something every game should have.

I prefer 999's story but VLR is undoubtedly a sequel that absolutely delivered.

Kingdom Hearts II has aged much much much better in terms of everything including story and dialogue when I did a series replay a few years before Kingdom Hearts III came out.

The dialogue and delivery of lines in general are noticeably very wooden and story is just not as interesting as I once thought it was.

I love the series and Kingdom Hearts 1, but the story, I'm not a big fan of it.

Silent Hill 4 had one of the most underrated horror stories. The moments in the apartment was one of the most terrifying experiences in a video game. It is such a shame that the game had this huge emphasis on combat which made gameplay tedious and revisiting areas in the 2nd half which made the game have major pacing issues.

In my opinion The Room had a better story than Silent Hill 3 but wasn't nearly as good as a whole package.

I still get chills thinking about the first time I played this game. Maybe because the formula was so fresh at the time and the storytelling and dialogue just resonated so much with me. Hands down the best story in the Walking Dead franchise. It's such a shame the sequels decline in quality with each successive entry.

Chrono Cross - It was probably such a disappointment because I had really high hopes for a CT sequel at that time.

Resident Evil 6 - It was bombarded with terrible critic and user reviews but even then I had faith in RE. Boy was I wrong.

Final Fantasy XII - Game was not bad because it had an amazing world and great gameplay but unfortunately it was the first mainline single player FF game that came out after the golden era of FF and it did not measure up especially with how bland the story was and how it had one of the worst casts in a JRPG.
