North and South Carolina are experiencing a category 1** hurricane. We had the option to use our freeway system and leave the region. I am on North Carolina highways about 200 times per year. They are easily managed, and despite some traffic, you can leave. Puerto Rico experienced a category 5** hurricane. They are an island with a bad economy. Please do not compare the two because of Cheeto News. // ** https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/aboutsshws.php

PR has an airport...

Hahaha. A few dozen flights for 3.5 million people. Ticket prices also spiked 10 times their usual price due to demand, leaving only rich people able to leave. But TF am I doing responding to a joke account.

Why did 70% of one of our territories, populated with American citizens, not have power? Are we not responsible for that?

Corrupt and incompetent PR government. Doing a little research will show it's full of nepotism, mismanagement and corruption. PR was never some beautiful island people portray it to be.

You can shut the fuck up if you're not from the island. Yes, it's full of corruption, but the main reason there were still power outages was bc we had another cat 5 hurricane pass very near us exactly a week before Maria. I was without electricity for 3 days and general electricity was back a bit more than 90% by the time Maria hit us. Then I spent the next 4-5 months without electricity. Spending a fortune on gas to power electric generators so that my newborn baby (who was born on the day Trump came to the island 2 weeks after the hurricane) could sleep better during the nights.

And Im lucky I live in San Juan and had the means to get through it without much hardships.
