Repetitive environments and layouts aren't ideal, but I feel it's much less intrusive there than in ME1, which takes place all over the galaxy yet keeps reusing the same tiny handful of caves. buildings, and ship interiors. --- "In this world you will have trouble. | Captain_Sorzo 05/07/20 12:19:26 PM #33 | Making the multiplayer grindier in order to presumably push microtransactions is one of the main factors that killed Andromeda's MP for me, and I'm consequently wary of any attempts to mess with 3's formula. On the other hand, having to unlock everything again from scratch would dissuade a lot of people from getting back into it, myself most likely included. A proper update of 3's MP that lets you import your unlocks or offers generous free starter packs while adding more kits, weapons, and maps could be amazing, though. | Captain_Sorzo 05/05/20 7:00:59 PM #50 | We see Mass Effect 2 doing exactly like it was supposed to despite Andromeda and you're thinking The Last of Us fans flip completely on the game because of a leak despite a lot of them avoiding the spoilers. Main thing going against TLoU is that the leak drama is happening right now. Andromeda was three years ago, whereas TLoU 2 is the game currently in hot water. Neil Druckmann, the game's lead, posted a video on YouTube yesterday that's currently sitting at close to 75% disliked, and if that sort of widespread antipathy is reflected here at all, it will at the very least swing a lot of neutral votes in favor of DS. I'm not saying it'll be a swing of 10% or more, but the game falling 5% or so below predictions seems likely. Her conversations have the widest range of topics, including family, art, and faith, and her infamous "racism" toward aliens mostly just boils down to deep cynicism tied to her family's blacklisting. It's partially a character flaw (one that she can work toward overcoming through persuasion), but also partially genuinely accurate. Her metaphor about the bear and dog is proven spot-on in ME3. By comparison, let's look at the other characters: -Garrus and Kaidan I don't have any issues with. They're not as compelling or well-rounded as Ash, but still solid. Garrus improves dramatically in ME2 and is ultimately my favorite character in the series, but here he's just decent. I, uh, can't speak to Kaidan in the sequels. -Wrex is a borderline copy/paste of Canderous from KOTOR. The grizzled mercenary from a warrior culture in decline who's sad to see the state of his people and later -Tali is barely a character in the first game, sadly. I love her in the sequels, where she improved by leaps and bounds, but in ME1 she's just a set of codex entries about the Quarians and Geth. Every single conversation with her is just one exposition dump after another. -Liara is half exposition dump, half crazed stalker. She practically throws herself at the player after two conversations and has to be turned down repeatedly. I've honestly never liked her outside of Lair of the Shadow Broker, where's she's admittedly pretty good. Put simply, half the cast of the first game falls into the trap of being exposition machines tied to their species. Tali has nothing else going for her, Liara has some creepy/annoying tendencies in addition, and Wrex fares better but is still ultimately pretty generic. The other half are more well-rounded and feel much more like actual people, but Ashley just stands out more than Kaidan and Garrus in that regard. --- "In this world you will have trouble. I've never played FF14, but I still have a tremendous amount of respect for it as being the best redemption story in gaming. We've seen a few games experience similar comebacks since then, like No Man's Sky, but FF14 was the first to have a dramatic rise from the ashes, and it remains unmatched in the scale of its recovery. The result is a fascinating, feel-good, real-life story that most voters will be at least vaguely familiar with, one that's often held up as the shining example of what developers should do to make amends when they release subpar products. I know Undertale has a legitimate fanbase, but everyone knows it only won 2015 due to outside rallying, and Draven's grisly fate in 2018 indicates that users are slow to forgive or forget such things.
