Does it really cure depression, pain, sadness, etc?

Short-term, it can help deal with those issues; I wouldn't say it outright cures them.

Long-term use of it will make these things worse. It's best to address the underlying cause; but if you can't do that and must abuse a substance, alcohol is one of the worst ones you could choose.

I'm speaking from experience here. I used to have major issues with those things, and used alcohol to try and deal with them, which just made me even worse. I switched to synthetic cannibis products, you know, those horrific life-destroying evil substances everyone's petrified of... and was much better off for it. I don't use them anymore, though, partly because they're no longer legal here and unlike the legal regulated market* I don't trust the black market ones. And partly because I no longer need it.

* yes, I'm aware they're not regulated in most places; but for a while they were actually regulated (rather than just "legal because they haven't been banned yet") here.

1) Clinton got in trouble for lying about it
2) Trump could get in trouble for using campaign funds to pay off Stormy Daniels

But whats context!?

"Context" is that little bit you're overlooking where liberals are taking issue with the affair itself in Trump's case, yet overlook it completely (or at least claim "all he did wrong was lie about it") in Clinton's.

And let's face it - the biggest problem in this case is that people are still being arrested on marijuana charges. IMO, the only marijuana-related charge that should exist is "supplying marijuana to someone under 18 who you are not the parent / legal guardian of". (Though Americans would probably wanna make that 21, whatever, you get the point.)

The other day a buddy of mine had an idea for a sitcom where Donald Trump is in prison and he has two secret service agents who have to be in prison with him

Good luck finding someone who can write that well. The average conservative would put too much focus on "why Trump shouldn't actually be there", to the point it would detract from the comedy. Meanwhile, if written by a liberal, it'd be nothing but the same few insults towards Trump over and over.

If someone who could write it well was found, and it was made, I'd definitely give it a watch.

The extremes of both sides would like a 1984-like society. They just have different ideas on the finer details of it.

Trump is nowhere near that extreme. It's hard to tell if Clinton would have gone that far, I get the impression she would have liked to, but probably would not have actually managed to.

You pretty much have to look to either what fringe movements want, or outside the US, to find actual examples that come anywhere near 1984.
