Not really no

His vision of Star Wars was always a story of the Skywalker family. That story is over now. The guy doesn't seem to have much interest in developing the universe beyond that.

Yeah I always assumed it was because of the significance he played in Luke, Han, Leia, Chewie, and Bail's lives and an acknowledgement of the sacrifices he made for all of them.

Plus Leia probably knew Luke would never have kids because of a combo of the whole "jedi" and "gay" thing, so she wanted Ben's name to live on in some way.
