I've encountered some of the same attitudes with older people, where games in their eyes are stupid things for children while reading is healthy and productive... I mean, since it is something they engage in it must be... -_-

Yeah, in the midst of this week's paranoid gun nut rampage we even have state legislators wanting to make it legal for residents to carry concealed weapons without any sort of permitting or training. As for the films, most of which I did watch at some point... The first is watchable, the second was a mire that lets you experience what it's like for your consciousness to unravel and leave your body, and the rest are various forms of satirically absurd. It's like an alternative world where Anne Rice wrote her vampire series at the onset of puberty. :P

IIRC the portal between worlds is cyclical and limited in duration. Anyone on the other side when it shuts down is stuck in whatever world they inhabit at the time. The various races in the other world came at different times and now they're all in that same fantasy world.

The core for isekai is in the name 'another world'. Harry Potter isn't isekai as there isn't any form of transmigration from one world to another.

As for sci-fi isekai, I'm vaguely aware of things that sound like they'd fit the bill, but I haven't read them myself. Things like a guy waking up and suddenly piloting some Andromeda-style ship. I think there's another where a guy ends up as a galactic emperor.

If you want trading, factions and all of that, you might want to check out an indie from 2015 called Rebel Galaxy. It never reaches the point of you having your own fleet, but there are different factions you can build affinity with.

And the trading does have contraband where the military will try to confiscate it if you get close to them while transporting it. You can either hand it over or try to fight them.

Everspace 2 has better combat than that game, but Rebel Galaxy's not bad overall.

Rebel Galaxy was fun, but similar to Everspace the first and second games are a bit different. The first uses a naval warfare combat model, with you piloting larger ships and having wingmen that pilot the smaller stuff. The second game uses a dogfighting model where you're in smaller ships.

For smuggling I do remember that befriending one of the pirate factions gave you access to a smuggler's hold that could avoid scans from the 'space police'. Standard merchant holds were larger but left you vulnerable to scans.

All in all Rebel Galaxy was a good 'introduction' to the genre for people unsure if they'll like these kinds of games.

Given how slow Hydra is on offense I wondered if they would approach at 10% power, just sort of coast into hammer-saw range. That might have worked.

Well, like Chris said, he'll be lucky to be invited to participate in next year's season. The direct upscaling of a beetle-weight bot just doesn't work in the format of Battlebots.

In the core rules the only thing is fall damage from height, which gets reduced for monks of a certain level. There are rules for grappling, and Feats that support them, but that's it. Anything else is DM discretion/homebrew rules.

It might get a bit muddied up when Baldur's Gate 3 releases. IIRC Barbarians that take the Eagle Totem get a diving strike. But that's essentially Larian's homebrew, even if it functions as playtest feedback for WotC.

The game did flop. No one talks about it anymore.

It made the Top 10 of all time concurrent players list on Steam, to say nothing of console players. It only has 10% of that figure still playing today; 500k compared to 50k.

This is often joked about because there's a grain of truth there. If sex robots fully simulated the natural sexual experience, a very noticeable portion of men would never bother or interact with women after that point. It wouldn't go as far as the Futurama plot where the world gets destroyed, but it would an interesting paradigm shift to be sure. Who would be happiest about it?

Of course not. But if they do get ousted from a company they usually have a golden parachute in place worth $20 million or more.

I didn't know that bit about Riptide and the refs. Now that is the sort of thing that I'd consider truly bad sportsmanship. I can see why the entire production of Battlebots and the other participants would hate Riptide. Side note, maybe it stems from watching NFL games, but I never gave much flak to Jake for his appeal/argumentation with the ref in a past season. But what Riptide did just goes completely against sportsmanship at that point.

Edit: On the topic of Shatter and the other appeals, it makes sense that the production staff would want to limit the success of appeals. Otherwise every team with a record under .50 would want to try their hand at the appeal. It is fair in my eyes for Shatter to lose all points in the Control category. I'm not sure WTF they were thinking, flailing about like idiots and damaging themselves. It would have been better for them to just crash into Horizon and then start swinging, rather than pound the battlebox to the point where their hammer was visibly blunted.

I'd like to remind people that Rowling is just one person. She isn't some icon of thought able to influence society. Targeting Hogwarts Legacy because she exists is misguided at best, and pathetic at worst. Take absolutely every last bit of energy that is directed towards targeting the game and instead do some actual good with it. Because if your focus is on Hogwarts Legacy, you're failing to achieve anything other than becoming a sideshow or laughingstock to most people; there just isn't a constructive point to any of it at this juncture.

Team Ninja games, and Capcom games both cater to a specific crowd. That crowd enjoys twitch play.

Hm... some nice crunchy fights on the schedule tonight. Some I feel like I can make irresponsible predictions for: Witch Doctor, Malice, Mad Catter, and Ripperoni. Of course, anyone already watching the episode could tell if some of my guesses are wrong. But the other fights look like they should be quite destructive.

I can see Billy and Huntress teaming up to be twin killers in a movie. Flying axes and chainsaws are horror staples.
