but do you know how extremely rare your specific example even is? 40 percent of armed forces never get deployed or see combat. Out of the 60 percent that HAVE, 10 percent have seen in combat. And the use of guns is even lower than that in combat. Theres also pretty strict rules of engagement. Its not call of duty out there where youre just lighting everything up

If you're automatically giving veterans blanket preference, then it means your policy automatically includes combat-hardened veterans even if they may form only a minority of ex-services applicants. I'm just saying it's not wise to blithely assume their previous experience makes them suitable for the job and should put them at the front of the line.

And I'm not convinced by the argument that the mere existence of strict rules of engagement necessarily always produced men who knew how to behave with control and restraint under fire. I've got several family members who did tours of duty in Northern Ireland at the height of the Troubles and no matter what the Yellow Card (basically, the ROE) said, once shit started flying on the streets of Belfast everyone in sight who wasn't in uniform suddenly became the enemy for some of the men. One of my cousins was a nice guy before he went out there; but after he came back, there was no way he should have had a job that involved him handling a gun in a high-stress situation around civilians.

Lines have to be drawn somewhere.

If you're going to argue that one day shouldn't make any difference, then why should the day before yesterday make a difference? And if that's OK, then what about the day before that? And so on, and so on. Where do you stop? Where do you draw the line, and where isn't it OK to cross it?

If you keep blurring the line between what's right and what's wrong because there's only a few hours between them, then following that argument to its logical conclusion it'd be OK for you to have sex with a girl no matter how young she is. And it isn't.

A lot of people seem to be worried about everyone getting cancer or some kind of terminal disease down the road. It's silly.
And of course, out of the tens of millions who took the vaccine, some of them will develop cancer or another terminal disease a couple of years down the road. That's just the way the dice rolls when you're dealing with tens of millions of people. Some of them will eventually suffer from cancer whether they took the vaccine or not.

Do you even bother to study the data from clinical trials for over-the-counter medicines before you open the packet and put a tablet in your mouth? He'd probably argue that he's not literally suggesting that all gay people should be forcibly removed to some version of Devil's Island; but what exactly is this "common sense" approach he's alluding to for how government should deal with gay people? What is the government supposedly doing wrong, and what does he think would be right?

Whenever someone says there's no room in God's plan for a certain group of people, it means there's no room for those people in the world. And the implications of that ain't healthy.
