I tend to err on the cautious side and try to avoid buying things like that, but I admit the five star reviews sometimes tempt me to buy. Same. For those where the reviews are kinda split down the middle I also look at dates of the reviews. If the later reviews are good while the earlier reviews are bad I kinda hope/assume said product is a newer version and improved upon.
