Playoff Contenders as is

Oakland Raiders - This team had a claim to being the best team in the league last season with its excellent offensive, defense, and turnover rankings, but I was in control of that team and probably squeezed the most out of it as I could. There is a considerable talent deficiency here both in terms of starters and depth. The cap situation wasn't good last season, which forced a ton of trades. It is unknown how much dead cap the team will incur, and thus I can't really say what their financial will be once the offseason proper begins. The team does have a ton of high draft picks (including 1st and 3rd overall), so it has plenty of ammo to make some moves through RFA, trades, and the draft.

Cincinnati Bengals - The Bengals still had a high quality offense (8th), but took a major step back on defense (I want to say 6th to dead last). The defense still had 10/11 starters from the season before, so honestly I just assume bad luck was the main reason. I would expect some regression to the mean. Other than that, this is well-balanced team in terms of talent distribution. Several areas could use some depth, and the offense is getting up there in years (really just looking at OL and QB), but things look good other than that.

Dallas Cowboys - The most dominant team in our league's history (went to six straight SBs), the Cowboys now have a lengthy by their standards playoff drought. Nothing about this team is bad, but if I had to pick something, the secondary has been its weak link for most of this drought. The trenches (OL and DL) are very old now, and QB Andy Dalton presumably has just one season left in him, so at least there are some clear areas to target for improvements. Eight of their 10 most expensive players still have additional years left on their contract, so financials might be an issue.

Washington Commanders - I'm not even looking at the rankings. This is a talented team that has one fatal flaw holding them back now, the offensive line. They kept losing talent and replacing them with high draft picks, but high draft picks are still of lesser talent than most starters, so in the end, it only results in a vicious, wasteful cycle. Finances shouldn't be much of an issue, so as long as the team goes out and gets at least two starters that are far more talented than what they have now, they should get back into being true playoff contenders.

San Juan Orcas - A defensive-oriented team (uncharacteristically fell to 16th though), the offense endured an up-and-down season from rookie QB Tua Tagovailoa and once again suffered numerous injuries to their backfield. All of their non-Nyheim Hines HBs had sub-3.5 YPC (yards per carry) marks. A combination of a return to their elite D, more stability from Tua, and better health from the backfield could propel this team back to Super Bowl contention, but they do have an aging offensive line that will need work, especially if they lose multiple to retirement like I suspect could happen. I know that I have said this to the vast majority of teams, but space space will be an issue.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Reinforcements on defense, a QB taken in the Top 5, and a former #2 overall HB breaking out all led to the Bucs being in the playoff hunt until the conclusion of Week 16. A 7-9 record may not jump out, but this was a huge step forward for the franchise. They aren't the most talented team, and they do have financial woes, though it should be better this season, but improvement from QB Justin Herbert and some additional, smaller moves might be all this team needs to continue its upward trend.

Major Work Needed

Indianapolis Colts - The offense was a complete embarrassment last season. Losing HB Jamaal Williams for nearly the entire season didn't help, but it can hardly all be attributed to that. The team is relatively young, should be in good cap standing, and will have some high draft picks, so it can be a quick turnaround, but they might need to make several changes to its offense (and aging defense to a lesser extent) to make things work.

Chicago Bears - A lot of effort has gone into this team, but just hasn't produced the results. It had a bottom 10 offense and defense last season, and they could probably do a major overhaul. WR, OLB, and OL are probably the easiest positions to improve upon. They might also want to consider a change at QB. Their cap situation should be great too. They don't own their most of their draft picks, but they do have the top picks of the Bills, so they will be in the middle of the rounds at least.

Green Bay Packers - The transition from a scrambling to non-scrambling QB was rough as expected, but they also suffered more injuries to starters than most teams, so its hard to gauge where they are at as a team right now. Given the youth of their QB/HB (both recent first round picks too) and the talent of their OL, really just the WR room could use some help on offense. On defense, their DTs, LBs, and DBs are getting close to retirement, so this team has clear areas of concerns. Cap space should be no issue.

I'm going to tier all the fully available teams. I'm just ordering them within each tier by how they were listed in the above list of teams, so don't look further into that.

Super Bowl Contenders as is

Denver Broncos - This is one of the winningest franchises in our league and one of eight franchise that have been to multiple Super Bowls. They had a poor season in S18, but they bounced back in a big way in S19 fielding one of the top offenses and defenses in the league (7th and 2nd respectively). They started off strong, but were a .500-ish team for the second half of the season. They did manage to get a playoff victory at least. The trenches are aging with potentially multiple starters retiring in the off-season. A lot of their most expensive players still have multiple years left, so there could be plenty of work ahead to navigate the salary cap.

Portland Express - Almost inarguably the best franchise to not win a Super Bowl over the past 5-10 seasons, the Express pulled a Broncos and randomly had a terrible season. They fielded a great offense (6th), but after being one of the top defenses for a long time, it inexplicably fell to 28th. Some of that can be attributed to losing some talented starters (DT Vernon Butler, SS James Sanford, and MLB Rodney Sylvester), but I'd chalk it up to bad luck and would expect some decent regression to the mean next season. Like the Broncos, a lot of their more expensive players still have years left in their contract, so they would need some navigation around their salary cap. They do have the #2 overall pick and own all of their draft picks, so that should be nice.

Columbus Pioneers - The AFC's best team the past two seasons (#1 seed in both), the Pioneers have the best offense/defense combo in maybe the entire league (3rd on 0, 1st on D this past season). They suffered from brutally-timed offensive playmaker injuries late in the season that carried over to the postseason, so they came up empty there. This isn't a young team, but they shouldn't suffer too many starter retirements this offseason. They will probably be right up against the cap, moreso than the Broncos and Express.

Seattle Seahawks - Perennially talented and often underperforming, the Seahawks finally had another breakthrough season. They were the last unbeaten team, then the injuries kept piling up. They endured as much as they could, but they suffered a narrow loss in the NFC Championship game. This is one of the younger teams in the league in terms of starter ages, so their future looks good for the time being. A lot of their most expensive players were short-term injury signings, so as long as they hit the open market, the Seahawks should be in good financial standing.

St. Louis Rams - The Rams have made the playoffs in 11 straight seasons. They usually pair an elite defense with a quality offense, but this time, they finished with the league's #1 O to go along with their #4 D. They have been shuffling HBs for awhile now, but they finally got a great one in Jeremy Hill. A lot of their starters will be 30+, but none should be in danger of retiring yet. Cap space will be an issue, but the pecularity of their distribution of high earners and how many years they have left make it hard to gauge if they will be closer to the Pioneers or slightly more favorable than the Broncos/Express.

Minnesota Vikings - The Vikings have won 3 Super Bowls in the past seven seasons. They lost a ton of talent from S18 and S19, but their fall in S19 (14-2 to 6-10 should not have been that severe), especially when you see that they finished 11th on offense and 12th on defense with a positive turnover differential. Their running game being constantly injured and horrible (it was constantly injured and okay in their SB winning season in S18 though), was probably the biggest factor outside of poor luck. If the recent 15th overall pick Jeff Wilson Jr. makes some decent progress, then that might make a huge difference. Cap health should be excellent relative to other teams in this tier.

Here are the 32 teams in the league by division. I have made notes for any team that has relocated since this started. A team in bold is one that is occupied by a user who will be coming back in season 19. A team in italics is one that is currently occupied by a user who has yet to inform me of their plans for season 19. A team that is neither bolded nor italicized is open (you can also tell because there's no username to the right of them) for the taking. If an italicized team is the one you want the most, you can sign up for X open team with the stipulation that you would like to change to Y team if their incumbent user does not return.

1. Hub Spreadsheet
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/10gIP0JkVqOaoUc4aQX_NyDM8dB31FOPm_dUx6DVTWPk/edit?usp=sharing

This is where you will find all pertinent information on the current state of the league. In it you will find several sheets, most of which should be self-explanatory if you understand the NFL. You might want to look at to get familiar with it and if your choice of team depends on its roster and not fandom. If your choice of team does depend on the roster it unfortunately is not fully accurate.

Due to the amount of time it would take to update each time players' ratings change, ratings for all teams are reflected based on what they were entering the preseason unless a player was signed or traded after it. Also, the team financial sheet which gives you contract info and ages for all your players are only shown for user teams based on how much time and effort it takes to work on it. Do not hesitate to ask me any questions regarding any teams you might be interested in taking over.

2. Word Doc
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1RVeEIyjqIiEkS0VYvbsI02dWMDXyOgdVQAgThNJyIfc/edit?usp=sharing

This was re-worked, but not for many years. It still has plenty of info that should be helpful to understand how B8NFLL works within Madden 06. I wouldn't say it is essential and it doesn't cover everything, but I think it covers most of the important stuff and might answer many of the questions you have.

3. Wiki Page
http://board8.wikia.com/wiki/Board_8_National_Football_League_League

This is starting to get ridiculously long and may prompt me to move it elsewhere as I can't seem to make new articles on the B8 Wiki (and updating it has been a pain, so I'm a bit behind there), but the basic history (such as who was in charge of what team each season, final regular season records, playoff results, award winners, and end-of-season stat leaders) of every season of B8NFLL is on record here.

4. Previous Topic
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/8-gamefaqs-contests/80696234

That topic covers the entirety of the regular and postseason, so you can check it out at your convenience to see how everything during that span is presented. We are also part of the B8 Discord and can be found in the B8NFLL sub-channel under Sports.

Board 8 National Football League League (B8NFLL) just wrapped up its 19th season where the Davenport Browns defeated the Atlanta Falcons in the Super Bowl. That means it's time for new blood or old blood returning to be able to get in on the action for Season 20. Signups will last until sometime in June, so there's plenty of time to decide.

What is this?
B8NFLL is a simulation league using Madden 06s franchise mode where users build rosters while managing the salary cap to have fun and/or accomplish something over the course of multiple seasons (no hard figure, but the game can't exceed around 30 seasons)

What do we do in a season?
Here is an oversimplified breakdown of what we do each season in order:
1. Offseason
- Ownership changes <---- We are here
- Player retirements
- Restricted free agents
- Unrestricted free agents
- NFL Draft + signing draft picks
- Free agency
2. Preseason
3. Regular Season
4. Postseason

The beginning of the offseason is the only time that I can change ownership of teams, and I personally think that it makes most sense to end the season with the playoffs, so this is where we begin. The majority of your work in this league will be in the offseason. The pre, regular, and postseason are basically seeing the fruits of your labor and making any adjustments that you see fit. You can ask questions now if you have any about the offseason events, but I go over them in full detail when the time comes.

This is the kind of project where you can be as active or inactive as you want. I of course like to see it when people put in a lot of effort, but I totally understand that people have different lives and schedules that might affect the amount of time they are able to put into this. We've had a wide variety of successful levels for those active and inactive. We've even had users who literally did nothing all season who went on to win Super Bowls or make it far into the playoffs. If you are interested in joining this but are hesitant based on your availability, let me assuage some possible concerns. I end up doing like 95% of the work on this project, and I give users plenty of time to do their tasks. A large number of offseason segments I give users at least a week to complete. Should you idle during any of those segments, I have very forgiving rules in place, and you even have the option of letting me temporarily take over your team and act on your behalf. Your team will not be screwed over if you ever forget to do something.

Seeing as the topic said 2010s, yeah I was waiting until we did 2020s (if we were going to do that at all since we aren't even halfway through it) to do Microsoft Flight Simulator since it came out in 2020.

I don't have anything specific for 2010s yet, but I will continue to think and also monitor what people say here.

When I said get a handle on the cooldowns, I meant have an idea of how long they take. I see nothing listed anywhere in the menus the specifics of how long any of the various cooldowns are. The game is fast-paced enough with little to no windows for rest, so I don't feel like I have a great opportunity to gander at any of the three or so areas on the screen where cooldowns/circles/meters exist to time things out.

I started Evil West. It feels like a throwback game that I would play in the mid 00s. It's gory and fun, but I'm struggling to get a handle on the cooldowns. There are like two different sections showing cooldowns on the screen, not to mention I'm not entirely sure how to interpret the meter that let's me know if I can heal myself or not. I wouldn't call the UI a nightmare, but it could use quite the overhaul (and also maybe change things so that you don't need so many cooldowns!) I would have thought that I could switch guns, but I guess that they correspond to specific buttons, and I don't really understand why there is both a reloading and cooldown mechanic (latter doesn't make any sense!) for them.

I sure said cooldowns a lot

What is Game of the Month Club?
Game of the Month is a community project open to all B8ers where users share, discover, play and/or discuss a select few games every month. The games featured each month are chosen by YOU the users (and Lady Luck)

The Basics
- Each month will usually feature three games that were chosen via a random drawing from a pool of games that users nominated
- For each game you beat, you get a cool point on our just-for-fun standings as well as a nomination for next month's randomized drawing
- In order to receive the point and nomination, you must beat said game within the calendar month
- If you beat one of the current month's games in the previous month, you can apply for a "recently beaten waiver," but you will only receive a point and no nomination should you do so
- Drawing for next month's games is usually on the 25th
- If you periodically keep us posted on your progress and/or talk about different aspects of the games, then everyone will obviously think you are super awesome!

Nomination Rules
- You get one nomination automatically each month
- You receive additional nominations each month for every featured game that you beat
- Each game you nominate has to be unique from all other nominations and cannot include a game that has already been selected for GotM
- Each game must be a standalone game that can be acquired and played on its own (aka cannot be DLC/expansion that requires the base game)
- Nominations only carry over if you beat a featured game after the drawing for next month's games but before the end of the month
- You also have the option of supporting 1 game each month. Your only limitation is that you can't support your own nomination
