What is Game of the Month Club?
Game of the Month is a community project open to all B8ers where users share, discover, play and/or discuss a select few games every month. The games featured each month are chosen by YOU the users (and Lady Luck)

The Basics
- Each month will feature three games that were chosen via a random drawing from a pool of games that users nominated
- For each game you beat, you get a cool point on our just-for-fun standings as well as a nomination for next month's randomized drawing
- In order to receive the point and nomination, you must beat said game within the calendar month
- If you beat one of the current month's games in the previous month, you can apply for a "recently beaten waiver," but you will only receive a point and no nomination should you do so
- Drawing for next month's games is usually around a week before the end of the month
- If you periodically keep us posted on your progress and/or talk about different aspects of the games, then everyone will think you are super awesome!

Nomination Rules
- You get one nomination automatically each month
- You can receive up to three more nominations in a month for each chosen game that you beat (four during special months)
- Each game you nominate has to be different from both your and other users' noms and cannot include a game that has already been selected for GotM
- Each game must be a standalone game that can be acquired and played on its own (aka cannot be DLC/expansion that requires the base game)
- Nominations only carry over if you beat a chosen game after the drawing for next month's games but before the end of the month

Quinn wasn't even considered for Breakout based on past performance. I will have to check about last season.

Tucker was 4-8 from 50+ and was my second-to-last cut for Kicker replacements. There were like 10 kickers who made at least 81% of their FGs, so when the league leaders hit 86%, I didn't feel hamstrung to include them. The difference in FGM was ultimately why Tucker was left off.

6. Sean

Sean was on a team with an elderly man believed to be blind, deaf, and confined to a wheelchair, a serial killer, and an unhinged man with an unhealthy obsession. He gets massive pity points for dealing with that circus and more kudos with the level of poise that he often did. Long after suspecting that he was inorganic, I still felt legitimately awful for him whenever Eric was verbally or physically abusing him (which was like half the game) and also when the shit hit the fan (many times overlapping with Eric's treatment of him). At the end of the day though, he stands out more for his appearance and importance in the plot than for anything relating to his character or what he did.

7. Sigma

Not that Sigma was amazing or anything in VLR, but he was interesting for the most part. With his ZTD iteration being that of the nearly 70-year-old Sigma's consciousness being placed inside 20-something Sigma, the lack of a dynamic personality is sometimes painful. He landed a few good zingers from time to time, but for the most part, he just stood around with his arms folded or on his hips with a concerned look on his face and giving long-winded expositions.

He did show signs of being heroic, a willingness to do the tough things for the sake of the team, and was often the only one to not piss me off from D team, but it wasn't enough to compensate for how generally dry he was. I hate to beat a dead horse, but I can't leave him off the hook for the Ever17 fragment either.

8. Phi

Talk about a complete letdown after VLR. She's Clover 2.0 in that regard. While VLR made Clover borderline insufferable at times, Phi's descension in ZTD can mostly be attributed to her severely reduced screentime and role. She's kind of a shitty person who is intelligent beyond her years when it comes to science and philosophy but has the mentality of a ten-year-old with also noticeably weak social skills. VLR was able to put her in the spotlight often and use her weird combination of traits to make her oddly captivating.

In ZTD, the fragmented style and decision to focus on Diana and Sigma from D team (for what are now obvious reasons) really hurt Phi's standing within the cast of characters. She just comes across as another self-centered bitch without all the little things that made her endearing in the first place. She did have that moment right at the very end where she threw a tantrum out of the blue and dropkicked Delta. We have that at least.

GM of the Year

Emerald
+ Traded for stud DT Claude Wroten who helped give the Panthers the #3 defense by the season's end
+ Made adjustments in-season after the offense refused to get going and finished with a 9-7 record and the Panthers' first NFC South title

- Received in a trade with the Steelers, LG Taitusi Lutui had arguably his worst statistical season since S4
- Minimal impact from rookie class, mostly because...
- Had only seven new players this season, easily the lowest player acquisition activity level in the award's history of nominees. It was the same amount as the Cowboys who improved to 14-2 this season and wrecked just about everyone in their path.

Jukkie
+ Drafted Offensive Rookie of the Year candidate Marcus Cannon
+ Made adjustments during the season to finish 8-8 after beginning 2-5
+ Unexpectedly let HB Cedric Benson go after the preseason in favor of starting Dexter McCluster who went on to record B8NFLL franchise records in rushing yards and rushing TDs in a single season

- Won four fewer games than he did a season ago and had a -65 point differential, the worst among teams .500 and better.
- Traded a QB one season after signing him to 7 year contract with $7 mil in guarantees
- He's a Patriot fan

KCF
+ Traded away or lost to retirement five players rated 89 or higher and still finished with an 11-5 record (good for a first round bye) and a Top 10 Offense and Defense
+ Traded down in the draft to select LT Lane Johnson who started 8 games along the OL and recorded 42 blocks against 3 sacks with the 14:1 block/sack ratio the second-best among rookies with at least one start
+ Signed HB Courtney Lewis after his top two HBs were injured, and Lewis led the NFL in rushing yards during his six-week stretch as the starter and tied for 5th in the league with a 4.6 YPC.

- Had a worse record than last season
- Traded away WR Andre Johnson whose replacement, Kenny O'Neal, was a lead leader in receiving yards a third through the season only to finish 41st by the season's end.
- Despite being in control of six teams' entire drafts and several others partially, his selections produced just one Rookie of the Year candidate (Hawks HB DeMarco Murray)

Stan
+ Made great adjustments to finish 8-8 after an 0-4 start
+ 25 starts from rookie class as well as 14 games where rookie WR Blake Cronin was the main returner
+ Three players that they traded for during the off and regular season set personal records in at least one major category

- Did not produce a winning record for an eighth straight season and did not make playoffs for a seventh straight season
- Defense was still 28th in the NFL
- Traded for WR Larry Fitzgerald, who had 48 receptions for 604 yards in 16 games. In the Vick-led Cardinal/Wildcat offenses, he had no fewer than 72 receptions or 926 yards in a season prior to this.

stevr
+ Drafted Defensive Rookie of the Year candidate OLB Jelani Jenkins
+ Signed HB Cedric Benson after Clinton Portis went down and set personal bests in rushing yards and rushing YPC
+ Added three more wins from last season and made the playoffs at 9-7

- Idled and let a lot of his key defensive players go, including OLB Spencer Havner who is up for multiple awards, and finished 27th in total defense
- Has repeatedly called QB Brady Quinn a bum and tried to replace him only for Quinn to be one of the most important reasons why the Bills are in the playoffs
- Threatened to not sign rookie 7th rounder MLB Aaron Harris out of the Air Force Academy over a $70k signing bonus

Comeback Player of the Year

Falcons DT Jonathan Babineaux

Playing for both the Titans and Falcons last season, Babineaux was a complete dud. He managed a paltry 25 tackles and 3 sacks with no FFs or FRs. After being gifted a two year contract, he managed to be a stabilizing force on a playoff-bound Falcons D constantly dealing with injuries with 48 tackles, 8 sacks, 2 FFs and 2 FRs.

Rams HB Ronnie Brown

At 31 years old, his days looked finished as a starter a pair of seasons as a backup in Denver, which was coming off of two injury plagued seasons in then Birmingham. All Brown did was re-establish himself as a starting HB and a candidate for HB of the Year and other awards. His 1401 rushing yards led the NFC and were a personal best. It was his first season with 1000+ rushing yards since S2. His 11 rushing Tds marked the first time he eclipsed the double digit mark in B8NFLL and were three more than the next best HB in the NFC. His 4.6 rushing YPC was almost a half yard better than his previous best.

Seahawks HB Lynell Hamilton

After the former Offensive Rookie of the Year was called out for an injury riddled career that included 136 total yards across three games last season, Hamltion responded by recording 1600 yards from scrimmage and 9 TDs for a Seahawks offense whose OL and QB positions were in flux with, you guessed it, injuries.

Lightning QB Eli Manning

Playing in just 17 games the previous two seasons due to injury, Manning had 18 Tds against 21 INTs on under 55% passing, a completely embarrassing combo for a pure pocket passer. Starting all 16 games for the first time since S5 and former Top 10 pick Alex Walton breathing down his neck after a Comeback Player of the Year nomination in S8, Manning was one of the best Qbs in the NFC with an 85.2 passer rating (6th), 3161 passing yards (3rd), 20 TDs (6th), and 63% completion % (tied for 3rd).

Lions SS Ifeanyi Ohalete

Playing roughly half of last season for a bad Lions defense, he embodied the image of an eroding, imploding Lions team that had won the Super Bowl just two seasons prior. Not wanting to go out on such a bad note, Ifeanyi, in what may be his final season, produced a career high 125 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 INTs for his first multi-INT season since S6, 2 FFs, which are one more than his previous three seasons combined, and four FRs, which equal his total from S3-S8. This 34-year-old DB of the Year candidate did everything he could to carry this Lions defense to the playoffs.

Breakout Player of the Year

Packers LOLB Spencer Havner

While a full-time starter for the Bills the previous three seasons, he was benched late last season in Buffalo and not re-signed due to the idling RNG not favoring him. While he is watching the playoffs from home this season, he set career bests in tackles (172), sacks (6), INTs (4), and FFs (5) and is up for LB of the Year , Defensive Player of the Year, and possibly MVP awards. His previous bests were 88 tackles, 3 sacks, 2 INTs, and 2 FFs (not all in the same season).

Patriots HB Dexter McCluster

Handed the starting job after the preseason with incumbent starter Cedric Benson's release, McCluster overcame a slow start to finish fifth in the NFL rushing yards (1360) and second in rushing TDs (12). Not bad for a second year-pro and sixth HB taken in his draft.

Dolphins DT Ndamukong Suh

He had the unenviable task of being the the key guy up the middle after 89 DT Darwin Walker was traded to the Bears, 90 DT Marcus Stroud to the Titans, and 91 MLB Al Wilson retired. Thrust into a demanding role for a second-year player, he flourished almost tripling his tackle total from his rookie season (17 to 48), tripling his sack total (4 to 12), and recorded his first pair of FFs.

Bengals LT Tavo Tupola

Taken with the 29th overall pick in S3, Tupola largely languished on the bench, only starting games when players ahead of him on the depth chart were injured. He had 67 blocks against 16 sacks coming into the season. Starting at C in place of Shaun O'Hara for 14 games, Tupola showed why he was a first round pick six seasons ago with 61 blocks against 6 sacks allowed.

Browns WR Patrick Turner

Starting opposite Steve Smith in his previous three seasons, he averaged 35 receptions for 406 yards, 2 TDs. Forced into the #1 role for 10 games this season and having turnover machine Sam Bradford throwing to him, Turner managed to destroy his personal bests by sporting a 75/1038/4 line for a Browns team that finished 30th in the NFL in total offense.

B8NFLL Award Ballots

The following posts contain 20 various awards that are both from the game and created by myself. Each award will contain five nominees with pertinent information for each candidate. This isn't like real life where you put each candidate in order of most deserving to least deserving. You vote by picking the single candidate you feel most deserves the award they are up for.

This is totally optional and you don't have to vote for all 20 categories, but I would be very thankful if you do participate and vote for all 20 categories. While it is impossible to police this, I would be most pleased if you do not vote solely based on the team that the player plays for. Every year, I receive at least one ballot with signs of clear bias that prevent unanimous winners (we had none last year) and sometimes the winner itself.

To vote, all you have to do is PM me back with something under the subject line relating to B8NFLL Awards so I know not to open it until the deadline. The deadline will be the day before the playoffs are simmed, and we will have a live "show" in the spreadsheet. The playoffs are tentatively set to be simmed in late February, so you will likely have just over three weeks to fill out a ballot. You are free to change your ballot up to the deadline, but make sure to let me know which is your final one.

There were a total of three categories with four players total that I ended up swapping Madden's finalists for new ones. I will reveal those when the winners are named, but I already mentioned that two were for Kicker of the Year.

I'm very close to finalizing ballot nominees, and I decided against putting in the obvious choices for GM of the Year (Rams and Pioneers' AI) and will keep it at just users. Also, I tried to poke fun at some users when doing the cons, and I hope that people have thick enough skin to not take it personally.

Everything should be posted tonight.

I'm pretty sure that they've been trying to come to a contract agreement for years now but both sides have been far apart, hence why Cousins has played under the franchise tag this season and last.

The Redskins would have to pony up something in the ballpark of $35 mil to do that again for next season, so instead of going into the same old song and dance about contract negotiations, the Redskins made first move by acquiring the same, if not better, quality of QB.

Whether the decision to immediately sign Smith to a four year extension, which appears to be at-market at worst, or include a young CB, who rated well in advanced metrics, prove to be mistakes remain to be seen.

9. Diana

I want to punch her stupid face with its (hilariously) awful expressions. I hate the way she dresses. I hate how she fucking wilts under pressure without fail ways in ways that make Eric look as cool as a cucumber. I hate how much of a goddamn idiot she was in Outbreak. Do not get me started on her role in getting me Ever17'd in such an awful, contrived way. Subsequently, I hate how she got super emotional realizing when Phi was her daughter when Phi said like two nice things about Diana the entire game and then gave her fucking son absolutely no love whatsoever who as it turns out appreciates and loves his mom a million more times than Phi ever will.

No character bothered me remotely as many times or to the degree as Diana did. She isn't last because at least the game didn't treat her as a plaything like Mira and Diana had moments pre-Ever17'd that I liked about. There was just too much going against her and there was no hope of recovery after that fragment.

Now to ranking the ten major characters

10. Mira

The problem that plot-driven games often have is that they do whatever they want to characters so they can fit the plot in. Mira doesn't have much going for her, but the simple yet refreshing reason for her becoming a serial killer was a great start. Unfortunately, and maybe this is also a consequence of the fragment system, they tried to established multiple, conflicting variants of her serial killer ways. The icing on the cake was when they revealed that the cloaked killer from Suppression and Junpei's killer from Suspicion was Mira. Without making this an essay, there was absolutely no reason based on how they presented Mira and The Heart Ripper that she would conceal her identity in Suppression (where did the cloak come from?) or completely dismember Junpei (leaving Akane and Carlos spared no less). They had the option to attempt, not necessarily convince the player, to explain these extreme shifts through alternative timelines, but the game simply didn't care about that. Eventually, I caught on that she was simply there as a narrative device and would change her in any way to make that possible.

Outside of her ending in Triangle, she didn't really say or do anything of interest. She also suffered from mediocre voice acting. I know her character isn't flush with robust characteristics to work with, but the voice actress didn't really sell herself as Mira well at all. I liken Mira's struggle to conceptualize feeling and empathize with the feelings of others to someone who would talk in a more blunt, matter-of-fact manner not unlike Phi. I think that Delta, maybe a cinema file, or perhaps even Mira herself mentioned that she puts on an act when in conversation. I think it's very clear she enjoys talking to others as it forms the basis for her fascination with people and their hearts. The tone and intonation of her voice just seems way off to me, and that ultimately hurts her as a character. Granted, she didn't have a particularly high ceiling to begin with, but still, her voice actress didn't do her any favors.

These are almost purely based on the puzzles with presentation making some effect.

Escape Room rankings
13. Power Room
12. Manufacturing
11. Infirmary
10. Incinerator Room
9. Study
8. Pantry
7. Biolab
6. Rec Room
5. Pod Room
4. Locker Room
3. Transporter Room
2. Control
1. Healing Room

Power Room and Manufacturing were the only two that I found truly boring.

Infirmary (poster), Incinerator (multi-perspective and goggles), Study (character depictions) all had some cool things in the presentation department, but the actual puzzles were underwhelming.

Pantry had one of the most unsettling atmospheres since I figured all the body parts were real. I felt like the puzzles could have had more to it since it was mostly finding objects and heating/freezing them, but it was kind of fun.

Biolab was one of the few (just two if I recall) of those puzzles where they give you many different versions of, and you have to test them, record information, and make correct judgments based on those. It had to do with the colored vials and mixing/separating them. Normally, I hate those puzzles that eschew being robust in favor of giving you busy work, but this one clicked with me.

I was pretty bad with Rec and Pod Rooms in some aspects. I kept getting stuck on what to do next in rec room (it took me ages on how I was supposed to open the chess set), and in the pod room, I had difficulty figuring out some of the later sliding block puzzles and the room alignment ones where you had Eric hammer circles. The layouts were among the best in the game, and in the rec room's case, it was one of the meatiest escape sequences. That one might have taken me the longest, which surprisingly wasn't to its detriment.

The Locker Room was probably the creepiest and made me the most agitated in its atmosphere despite just being a set of sinks, lockers, and shower stalls. They kind of had you do more than I would have expected with such little to work with. There were only two or three escape rooms that filled me with a greater sense of accomplishment after completing.

Like many have mentioned, I liked the alien language deciphering in Transporter Room, but it does lose points for the stupid one-on-one card battle to determine the "strength" of certain symbols.

Not everything from Control was a winner (rotating colored things), but minigames were outstanding, and I really liked the implementation of the sunglasses.

Healing Room gets my top spot since Spot the Piano Key was my favorite thing to do from any escape room. I don't even remember much else about the room except grabbing a knife from a wall and putting the piano keys back in order/playing them in order.

I tentatively have my K, Sergio Aguayo (99 overall), on the trade block for next season (since trade deadline has recently passed for this season). I'm expecting to be up against the cap again after I receive my cap penalties, and since special teams (from a ratings perspective) is an area of strength, I would be willing to take a hit there.

All stat PMs sent.

Going over each of the poll options now:
- Broncos finished with #1 offense with 5485 yards
- Only Pioneers made playoffs as the Chiefs and Wildcats finished the season on five and three game losing streaks respectively
- Inman ended up allowing four sacks
- Panthers finished up with the #3 defense but are closer to 17th than 2nd
- Ravens P Ryan Placemeier ended up cratering toward the end and finished in a tie at 17th in FG%
- Ravens ended up scoring on 37 of their 38 trips into the redzone
- Bengals and Rams ended up holding on to win their division, with the Rams in particular earning a first round bye
- Tannehill ended up losing the passing yards crown by less than 60 yards, but he did finish in first with a 102.5 passer rating, edging out the Pumpkins' Chris Leak.
- Titans ended up one game back of a playoff spot but recorded their first non-losing season since S6
- Redskins end up being the only team to beat the Cowboys in Dallas this season but are primed to select first overall in next season's NFL Draft.

Bucs
Chiefs

Giants

Bills were unfortunately the team that had the stupid site issue. I didn't feel like immediately typing up an entire PM that I had written just before, so I will hopefully resume tomorrow and start off with the Bills. I probably won't send one to the Lightning because last I knew, Kora still hadn't opened my previous three PMs to him, so I would rather not risk spending another 20 minutes in vain.

Life is Strange (PS4) - Platinum'd

Got Life is Strange on sale last year, beat it, and had a good time with it. Decided to replay it to choose the other options and to get the trophies. Still a good game, but definitely the best the first time around.

Don't know how I missed this comment, but the (overwhelming in my opinion) majority of story-centric games such as Life is Strange are better the first time going through it as its harder for things to have the same effect (and degree of it) on an individual after you've already experienced them once.
