A bit of a correction:

All statlines regarding DT Aaron Donald say he had 12 sacks while the breakout profile says 13 sacks. He finished with 12 sacks and thus I believe was tied for 4th in the league.

General Manager of the Year

Bloodychess
+ Finished with a league-best 14-2 record
+ Did not panic or make drastic changes when individuals had a bad game

- Most of the new starters they brought in or promoted were terrible or disappointing, including LG Stanley Schneidmiller recording 26 blocks vs 8 sacks and DE Danielle Hunter with 34 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 FR

KCF
+ Took over a team without a playoff appearance since S2 and led them to tie their franchise best record and won the NFC South for the first time.
+ Brought in 23 new players, including 14 on offense and eight starters overall as he helped them to finish with the #6 offense, #11 defense, and a +87 point differential.

- In-season adjustments to accomodate injuries and unit stagnation were often met with underwhelming results

Ranlom
+Focused on bringing in new defensive blood, including three new CBs and saw them finish T-8th in pass defense
+ Led the Chiefs to their first winning season since S5

- DId not make the playoffs

ScareChan
+ Navigated a tricky offseason to lead the 49ers to a franchise best record and first ever conference #1 seed
+ Incumbents they elected to promote more or less succeeded, including QB Mitchell Trubisky finishing 9th in passer rating and HB Thomas Rawls leading the league with 16 rushing TDs.

- Free agent signings were all major busts. WR Cordarelle Patterson was given a $20+ mil contract to give them 25 rec for 147 yards in 12 starts, WR Brandin Cooks was paid over $5 mil to give them 17 rec for 142 yards in 8 games, and the 3-4 D is somehow paying three DTs in excess of $3.3 mil annually, including offseason signing Demonte Bolden who gave them 5 tackles and 2 sacks.

TheSultanOfSlam
+ Signed or drafted many notable players to turn around a sagging offense including HB Eddie Lacy (1877 total yards, 7 TDs) and likely Off Rookie of the Year front-runner OT Kolton Miller (72 blocks, 3 sacks)
+ Made several gutsy in-season adjustments to turn their season around, most notably benching QB Tim Tebow for 4th round rookie Reuben Lane, and saw him win all six games he started en route to a winning record

- Did not make the playoffs

Comeback Player of the Year

Cowboys QB Cam Newton

Cam was a member of the historically awful Patriots S14 passing attack, and he was cut 4 games into it with a 23.1 passer rating and 263 yards, 0 TDs, and 7 INTs. He remained a free agent until the Cowboys picked him up as a playoff injury replacement, and he did well enough to help the Cowboys reach the Super Bowl. In what was a surprise by some, the Cowboys elected to re-sign Newton instead of future Hall of Famer Vince Young. It paid off as the 16th-highest paid QB finished third in the NFL in passer rating (86.6) as he became a QB, Off Player, and MVP candidate as he carried a Cowboys offense to finish 5th in points in spite of injuries and ineffectiveness at the HB position.

Steelers HB Christian McCaffrey

Another former first round pick castoff, McCaffrey was part of the S13 rookie HB class that has struggled with health, production, and effciency. He was benched four games into his sophomore campaign with the Wildcats after rushing for less than 3.5 YPC and had more fumbles than TDs. The Steelers picked him up in an offseason trade, and he finally showed glimpses of what made him a 1st round pick in rushing for 1787 yards (3rd in league) and 9 TDs while finally reaching the 4.0 YPC mark.

Dolphins RT Morgan Moses

His season was cut short after just five games as he saw the Dolphins fail to win a playoff game for the first time in his career. As the starters and depth around him along the OL fell victim to injuries, Moses stayed upright and was one of the league's best OL this season with 75 blocks against 6 sacks allowed, the blocks and 12.5 ratio both being career bests as he helped the Dolphins O remain balanced admist the turmoil, which ultimately resulted in a first round bye.

Vikings DT William Morrisey

After winning the Super Bowl, Morrisey didn't get a chance to help the Vikings defend the title as his season was lost during the preseason. In the final year of his contract, he showed the Vikings the he should be back for a 12th season with the team as his stats were near his peaks with 40 tackles, 8 sacks, and 2 FFs as the Vikings turned things around defensively as they came back from a 1-3 start to claim the NFC North.

Colts CB Brandon Browner

In a handful of starts before losing most of his season to injury, Browner gave the Colts 13 tackles and nothing else. The Colts decided to re-sign him over retaining Jason McCourty, and he responded by recording career highs in tackles (52) and INTs (5) while chipping in a sack and FR as he helped a team with the #32 offense remain competitive by helping to lead the defense to a #8 ranking.

Breakout Player of the Year

49ers HB Thomas Rawls

The 49ers were in a cap crunch and had to cut or simply not re-sign several veteran members of their offense, including inconsistent former first round pick HB Giovanni Bernard. Instead of taking one of the falling HB prospects in the first round, the 49ers had a HB competition in the preseason, in which Rawls won. Coming in with a 3.7 career YPC and 6 TDs on around 750 rushing yards, Rawls had arguably the most productive season by a non-Tatum Bell HB in franchise history with nearly 1800 total yards and 16 TDs on 3.9 rushing YPC to help carry the offense to a 12-4 record and the franchise's first #1 conference seed.

Jets C Maurkice Pouncey

The first ever C taken in the first round, Pouncey had bouts of injury (missed 11 games in S10 and S12) and pass protection woes (40 sacks allowed in S11, S13, and S14). In a contract year while blocking primarily for a sub-80, 33-year-old HB, Pouncey had far and away his best season shatter his previous highs in blocks (75 vs 50 before) while allowing just 7 sacks (10.7 blocks per sack allowed is great, phenomenal even for an interior OL) as HB Selvin Young had career highs in yards and touchdowns to help the offense score enough points to avoid double digit losses for the first time since S11.

49ers OLB Ryan Shazier

Coming back to the 49ers, they had won between 6-8 games each season from S9 to S14, so the franchise was long mirred in mediocrity and at a crossroad given the financial woes making their future core murky. Things didn't look good when long-time stud LBs Korey Norton and Zach Orr went down early (both played seven games) for a team needing a breakthrough. Shazier more than stepped up recording 157 tackles, 6 sacks, 4 INTs, 4 FFs, and a FR as a LB, Def Player, and MVP candidate as the 49ers won a franchise-best 12 games.

Orcas DT Aaron Donald

Donald had a modest start to his career being primarily a run-stuff with the occasional sack (7 in his first 32 games). Given some new front seven supporting cast around him, Donald became a wrecking ball this season with 13 sacks (tied for 3rd in league), 6 FFs (lead league and tied for most in B8NFLL history), and 2 FRs as he helped the Orcas defense finish in the Top 5 in both sacks and FFs as they made the playoffs for the first time since S2 and their first division crown.

Express FS Jeff Heath

An under-the-radar AI draft day trade in S14, Heath was to supplant retired former 1st round pick Pat Watkins, who didn't do much to stand out in his career. Heath didn't do much to stand out either with 32 tackles, 1 sack, 1 INT, and 1 FR. He entered S15 with 41 tackles and the lone sack, INT, and FR. He finally gave the Express production from a FS that they had never seen before as his 58 tackles, 3 sacks, 2 INTs, and 4 FRs far exceeded what he gave the team last season as he helped the Express finish in the Top 5 in total defense, pass defense, and turnover differential as they matched a career best 12-4 record despite being near the top of the league in starters games lost due to injury.

End-of-Season Season Awards

The following posts will contain all the awards that will be given out this season. While participation is optional, I would really appreciate it if you would take the 15 minutes or so out of your life to pick out your choices for each category and submit them to me via PM before the deadline.

Most of the awards are from the game itself. There are a few that are entirely of my creation. The former awards will have both a User and Madden winner while the later will solely have a User winner. The nominees for awards from the game will mostly come from the game itself with a few categories I will do from scratch. To prevent spoilers, I reorder the nominees by team name, first name, or last name every year (except Breakout/Comeback is by positional order and GM is always by name). This year, I chose first name.

For each category, you choose the one player/coach/person you believe to be most worthy of the award. For the Offensive Player, Defensive Player, and MVP of the Year, awards, you do not have to vote for the any of the listed players. If you feel another player up for another award is applicable and more worthy for one of these awards, you may select them as a write-in candidate even though you should know they won't win. However, I will use my discretion to null a write-in vote if I feel it to be disingenuous.

The deadline to submit to me your award ballot will be Friday, September 24th at 6 PM ET. The award show should take place later that night on Discord while the playoffs will be simmed the following night.

I also want to say that this is a deep but presently flawed group of playoff teams. I can see any of the Top 10 (Broncos are kind of a stretch) making deep playoff runs.

The Vikings did own the league's toughest schedule. They went 0-4 against the AFC West, which could prove to be an issue in what would be an unexpected SB matchup, but that means they went 10-2 against everyone in their conference, including allowing just 44 points in four games against other NFC playoff teams. The Vikings defense turned things around to sit just outside of the Top 10, a remarkable achievement given they were in the 20s until a late season surge. HB Dion Lewis, coming off of an underwhelming first season with Minnesota, had a sneaky great campaign. Former MVP QB Josh Portis is the issue here. He threw for a career high in passing yards (2611) but had a career worst passer rating (68.4) and rushing yards as a starter (590). If he continues to be a liability, it would be hard to see the Vikings winning more than one game.

The Orcas had the #6 O, #11 D, and a + 87 point differential. They beat the Vikings and lost to the Rams and 49ers by a combined six points, so they can hang with the rest. They "only" went 9-7 partially due to bad luck but also because they had a stretch in the season to where injuries and inconsistency took ahold, and adjustments just didn't yield wins. They seemed to right the ship once the defense came closer to full health and QB Chris Leak and WR Antonio Brown regained their connection, but they lost HB LaMarkus Coker who was having the best most productive season of his career. They will now turn to former Top 10 pick Jonathan Stewart who passed his first test against the Bucs. They were unfortunately set up against the Rams in the wild card round, so they should be the underdog. They did only lose by one in their previous match, and they completely shut down the Rams offense. Regardless, it will be a difficult playoff path despite how good they have shown to be this season.

Look, I know that the 49ers own the conference's top seed, but they are much more flawed team than just about every other playoff team. HB Thomas Rawls had a highly productive season out of nowhere, though I guess it shouldn't be a surprise given that San Fran is a HB factory. However, he had a sub-4 YPC, and we've seen teams completely neutralize him and subsequently the entire 49ers offense. Former Top 10 pick Mitchell Trubisky ended up with a passer rating around 10th, but he struggled to connect with anyone that wasn't Lance Leggett. Virtually half of his passing yards (2135 was good for 20th in the league) went to him. Leggett's 1030 were almost 800 more than the next person (TE Martellus Bennett with 286). I'm not sure that I have ever seen that before. They largely got to where they are on the backs of their defense. The ranking doesn't do them quite justice as they were without three of their top defenders for most of the season, but they were wrecking havoc with everyone, highlighted by OLB Ryan Shazier, a Def Player of the Year and MVP threat. While history has shown that first round byes typically lead to playoff success, we've seen multiple examples in recent seasons of bye teams losing their first game. The 49ers could be potentially matched up against the Rams or Orcas and struggled against them this season.

This is an uncharacterstic Broncos playoff team. Normally an elite defensive and rushing team, they are led on offense by QB DeShone Kizer, and their defense had many peaks and valleys to ultimately land in the bottom half of playoff teams. They haven't won a playoff game since losing the S10 SB. They are matched up against the inferior Titans, so they are in a good position to end that streak, but they were also just embarrased by the Bears, and despite all the issues the Titans have, they do have Vince Young and Brian Cushing leading their respective units.

Nine of the 12 playoff teams had point differentials of 40 or more. The Broncos ended with +24. The final team on this ranking had +14. The Titans had a -6. That obviously isn't S4 Falcons territory, but it, alongside having the #11 O and alarmingly the #29 D, shows that the Titans were extremely lucky to get into the playoffs. 8 of their 10 wins were against sub.-500 teams. It is good news that one of the two exceptions was their first round opponent in the Broncos, but the entirety of this offense depends on the Vince Young to Mike Evans connection and Young to do work on his 36-year-old legs. The Broncos have their own issues to where it wouldn't be a shock to me that the Titans win, but it would be absolutely stunning if the Titans move beyond the divisional round.

The Eagles are not the worst playoff team, but the team they will be trotting out, their 4-6 record since starting 6-0, and their two wins against above.-500 teams just makes it hard for me to believe in their chances this season. The fears of what would happen to Ted Ginn when Chris Leak was removed indeed came to life as despite starting all 16 games, he is mirred in the lowest rec, yards, and TD output since his rookie season, with his rec and TD totals (51 and 5 respectively) registering as career lows. QB Ryan Perrilloux has helped lead a team to a SB victory before (Broncos in S9), but he's limited in what he can do, and the situation in Denver was substantially better there in terms of of OL, HB, and defense. HB Tevin Coleman is a marginally better runner than Cornell Brockington and a substantially worse receiver out of the backfield, so despite the OL having its best seaso maybe ever in franchise history, I just don't see them scoring the necessary points against their NFC playoff opponents. After a strong start, the defense regressed to the mean, and injuries at LB didn't help matters. OLB Christian Kirksey is probable, but everyone else has returned, so maybe they can catch lightning in a bottle once, but to expect it multiple times is something I don't envision.

KCF's Playoff Power Rankings

1. St. Louis Rams
2. Miami Dolphins
3. Oakland Raiders
4. Dallas Cowboys
5. Baltimore Ravens
6. Portland Express
7. Minnesota Vikings
8. San Juan Orcas
9. San Francisco 49ers
10. Denver Broncos
11. Tennessee Titans
12. Philadelphia Eagles

The Rams had a phenomenal defensive season. They finished 1st in yards, 1st in sacks with a staggering 60, 4th in INTs with 22, and T-5th in FR with 15. QB Ryan Tannehill was wire-to-wire one of the best QBs in the league, and WRs Patrick Turner and Greg Lee are one of the best WR tandems in the league. Due to injuries, they had to start five different HBs this season, but their best option, Romance Taylor and his 4.7 YPC, is healthy ahead of their wild card round match, and backup Giovanni Bernard with his own 4.7 YPC might return in the divisional round should they advance. Returner Roy Helu Jr. had a resurgent season, and K Mason Crosby has been excellent since arriving last season. The only question for this team is the OL whose health and propensity to give up sacks is a poor matchup against an Orcas front seven featuring two of the best DL this season in Aaron Donald and Angelo McDowell, and a major RotY contender in Darius Leonard. It will be very tough for them to make the long-awaited SB given they have to play one more game than the Cowboys and 49ers (whom they went 1-2 against this season), and will have two guaranteed away games in their path to a SB.

The Dolphins are rounding into playoff form, getting back just about everyone they lost to injury in the process, with an excellent D that is in the Top 10 in all 11 categories that the game tracks and a balanced offense that will get great contributions from anyone on any given game with nine offensive players having scored multiple TDs, and five at 5+. The issue is now that superstar HB Jacquizz Rodgers is done for the season. 2nd round rookie Javorious Allen has done an admirable job filling in, but as with most young HBs, efficiency is a concern with him. They have since brought in Joseph Addai to be their playoff workhorse. He has a somewhat similar skillset to what Jacquizz Rodgers offers, but with substantially limited work in his career with 130 total touches across 9 seasons.

The Raiders lack the star player performances this season, but they are elite on defense, allowing the 5th fewest yards and just 10.1 points per game, one of the best marks we have seen in our history. While both the offense and defense have seen remarkable turnarounds from last season, there are reasons for concern that they will have yet another disappointing playoff appearance with the #1 seed. While most of the ratios are okay, the OL has had difficulty registering blocks, which simply will not do against the likes of teams with formidable front sevens they could face in the AFC like the Express, Dolphins, and Ravens. The DL is also a problem area, especially at DE where young starters Dee Ford and Danielle Hunter combined for 6 sacks, 1 FR. That's not going to bode well as all five other AFC playoff teams have had excellent OT play this season. While it simply hasn't happened often this season, the Raiders are prime to be exploited for their line issues that so many teams in the playoffs are fully capable of taking advantage of.

It was a rocky start, but Cam Newton and the elite defense (6th overall) got into a groove and ended the season on a 6-game winning streak to give themselves a bye. They'll need it and hope that others get banged up because it just can't be expected that Cam Newton will literally carry the offense to a SB title without a runner stepping up. The Cowboys finished ninth in rushing largely because of Cam Newton who was one of three QBs to lead their team in rushing this season. Their top two healthy HBs have YPC of 3.8 and 3.3.

The Ravens have had one of the more bizarre seasons in recent memory. They began the season 0-2 behind 10 turnovers and a -7 differential. They ended up with a -13 differential, tied for the worst in the league, so they continued to worsen in that department. However, they finished with the league's #1 O and #2 D with Top 10 marks in points for and points allowed. Star HB Doug Martin played in all 16 games for the first time in his career and became just the fourth HB with a 2000 yard season in B8NFLL history. WR Michael Crabtree was available for anyone in free agency, but presumably all 31 other teams didn't offer him a contract, and he's currently slated to make the Pro Bowl. The OL continued their high-level play, and, well, the Ravens defense is still the Ravens defense. QB Kirby Freeman who bounced back to nearly a Top 10 passer rating after a horiffic start to the season will not be playing in the Wild Card game against the 12-4 Express.

The Express could very well be the favorites in their match against the Ravens. With the #13 O and #4 D despite having one of the higher starters games lost due to injuries, they had one of the league's toughest schedules and have gone 4-1 against teams with double digit wins this season. They have been tested as much as anyone. Losing star HB DeMarco Murray a quarter through the season was a gutpunch, and backups Erik Haw and Le'Veon Bell have shared duties to okay results. It's wild that so many fantastic teams now have critical rushing issues come playoff time, but that is their achilles heel in what is an otherwise underrated and turnover-averse offense.

Okay, I post this every time the playoffs roll around, but I'm here to tell you who the SB contenders are this postseason based on historical data. I don't tell people ad nauseum that the best path to success is defense and the running game for nothing. Of the previous 28 teams to make the SB, 27 have finished in the top half of the league in running offense while 26/28 have finished in the Top 10 on defense. The exceptions were the inaugural season Dolphins (19th on D), S13's Pioneers (11th on D), and S14's Pioneers (18th in rushing)

Without further ado, your SB representatives are likely to come from this pool:
Cowboys
Dolphins
Raiders
Ravens

The Rams, Vikings, 49ers, and Orcas are very close but still outside in one of the categories

The other four are quite flawed in one of the two areas this season
