Some of those arts look cursed...like I get each artist has their own unique art style and some of them try to stay true to the "MtG" aesthetic as well...but like sometimes it doesn't work with an anime aesthetic.

Still pissed that Limited Run Games shot down a Tiny Toon Adventures game collection by saying WB has no interest in one, though if there is still any hope in getting one by supporting Konami's collections, I'm getting this.

If Digital Eclipse gets to do a Tiny Toon Adventures, it will be better off in the long run. They do much better work.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson has said in-game advertising could become a "meaningful driver of growth" for the company's bottom line. Speaking during the company's latest earnings briefing, Wilson said "it's still early on that front," and if this is something EA does decide to push further into, the company will be "thoughtful" about it.

In 2008, Barack Obama's campaign paid EA to put political ads in Burnout Paradise to try to get people to vote for him. Prior to that, 2006's Battlefield 2142 and Need for Speed Carbon featured in-game ads. In 2007, EA signed a deal with an ad company to bring in-game ads to Madden, Tiger Woods PGA Tour, NHL, and NASCAR games, as well as Skate.

Wilson said during the earnings call that, for any future in-game ad campaigns, EA would try to be "very thoughtful" about how they might be implemented.

"As we think about the many, many billions of hours spent, both playing, creating, watching and connecting and where much of that engagement happens to be on the bounds of a traditional game experience, our expectation is that advertising has an opportunity to be a meaningful driver of growth for us," he said. "We'll be very thoughtful as we move into that, but we have teams internally in the company right now looking at how do we do very thoughtful implementations inside of our game experiences."

Wilson was specifically discussing in-game ads in the context of "more traditional AAA games" and not necessarily mobile, where ads of all types are more commonplace.

EA's business is already booming, as the company just reported a full-year profit of $1.273 billion on $7.5 billion in revenue. EA laid off more than 600 people and canceled games earlier this year, including a Star Wars FPS.

It's not just EA looking into in-game ads. In 2023, SCS Software announced that it sold ad space inside American Truck Simulator to the trucking company Schneider National. In 2012, Square Enix launched a browser-based gaming service that allowed users to play games for free with ad breaks.

The English Hatsune Miku and MTG Secret Lair X (formerly Twitter) accounts announced the collaboration between Hatsune Miku and MTG on April 30. The official MTG website lists the cards included in the set and the release date of May 13.

The set is slated to stay on sale until June 2 and includes six cards that are reprints of Shelter, Chandra's Ignition (as Miku's Spark), Harmonize, Azusa, Lost but Seeking (as Miku, Lost but Singing), Feather, the Redeemed (as Miku, the Renowned), and Inspiring Vantage all with original Hatsune Miku art. The website also notes two different sets will be available. The first is a non-foil version for US$29.99 and the second a rainbow foil version for US$39.99.

These are some beautiful cards. Although Hatsune Miku hast little to do with fantasy or spell slinging, it's fun seeing her reimagined for MTG. Of course, there's no guarantee the cards will perform well on the second-hand market. But those who love Miku will likely want the cards as a collector's item rather than as some nebulous investment. If you love Hatsune Miku, check out this limited run of Magic: The Gathering cards.

On May 6th, a recycling truck challenged the 11foot8 bridge to a sort-of jousting duel. In this clash of the steel giants the old canopener got a bit rattled but I don't know that the truck escaped completely unscathed. This was crash #182 since 2008.

Hammer-headed bats are named after the males' oversized boxy heads, which evolved to amplify and project the honking sounds they produce to impress females during courtship displays.

Name: Hammer-headed bat (Hypsignathus monstrosus)

Where it lives: Lowland forests of West and Central Africa

What it eats: Fruit including figs, bananas, guavas and mangoes and flies

Why it's awesome: These "megabats" are the largest in continental Africa. Hammer-headed bats are named after the males' oddly elongated, boxy heads, which contain a large resonating chamber that amplifies their calls. This bizarre head is the product of the bats' unusual mating system.

Hammer-headed bats are among the few bat species with a lek courtship system a kind of pageant where up to 150 males gather twice a year to impress females with loud honks and a wing-flapping display.

Males hang from riverside trees and honk for hours at a time, while females fly by selecting a suitable mate. Females are highly picky, choosing the same 6% of males as mates 79% of the time (meaning the other 94% of males only get lucky once in a blue moon). The loudest honks usually get the most attention, so males have evolved a voice box, or larynx, that takes up around half their body cavity.

Their larynx is so large it pushes the heart, lungs and intestines back and sideways, according to a 1990 study.

The males' calls echo inside their thorax and bizarre, gargoyle-like heads before projecting out through their flared nostrils and pendulous lips. This elaborate head likely inspired the hammer-headed bat's Latin species name "monstrosus," which translates to "monstrous."

Females don't need big heads to impress a mate, so they sport narrower fox-like muzzles instead. Their bodies are also smaller, weighing about half as much as males 0.5 pound (230 grams) compared with 0.9 pound (420 g) and measuring around 8 inches (20 centimeters) long, compared with up to 11 inches (28 cm) for males.

However, both males and females have about a 3.3-foot (1 meter) wingspan and smooth, grayish-brown fur.

Although they are frugivorous, meaning they eat fruit, hammer-headed bats are thought to occasionally turn carnivorous. A 1968 study reported observations of these bats feeding on scraps of bird meat and killing chickens to drink their blood in Gabon. The observer, a herpetological collector named Harry Andrew Beatty, twice rescued chickens that were "attacked late at night by Hypsignathus," according to the study.

Another fun fact about hammer-headed bats? They wrap their huge wings around their humped noses to go to sleep.
