I'd say the Genesis getting the version with blood over the Super Nintendo added to the appeal that it was the cooler system, so I'd say it's a worthy inclusion. I've been thinking about adding it to my own list.

I get the arguments for Sonic 1 here, but you should absolutely not be picking the original Streets of Rage over 2.

I am now in Upper Junon in Rebirth. We meet Glenn Lodbrok, whom I've been told is from that Ever Crisis game. To me, he looks like the newest member of Organization XIII and he just showed up in the wrong game. He apparently works for Wutai, and he offers some thinly veiled threats to Rufus. I'm hoping the game will eventually give some background at some point and not just assume we all played Ever Crisis!

Yeah, I figured we'd get access to the chocobos relatively quickly since the Chocobo Ranch was the next location after Kalm in the original game, so I didn't go too far out of my way until I got there.

Also, I'm kinda glad they simplified weapons in this game. I didn't need a Crystarium for all my weapons in Remake, so just having a bonus ability and skill associated with each weapon is good enough for me.

I associate Techno Syndrome with the Mortal Kombat movie more than any game

He has had these "revelations" before.

If it stops him from posting them in the future, it will be the biggest upset on the site since Zelda beat Mario.

And to add to this, this is why I think he knows what he's doing with this stuff. He understands this stuff is unwelcome, claims to admit he knows why it's "problematic" that he posts it, and then keeps posting it anyway. Either he's doing it to annoy people, or he secretly actually believes this stuff and only swears to stop to keep people off his trail.

The point is not that SMB3 introduced that stuff specifically but introduced a feel of abundance and diversity in the presentation of the items and the worlds not present before that point

Yeah, Mario 3's influence is really being undersold here. The template for 2-D Mario games from that point is 3, not 1.

The game's biggest Easter Egg is being able to visit Peach's Castle from Mario 64.

But Donkey Kong getting an homage in New Donk City doesn't put it on the Rushmore here.

yeah but there's the rub: you guys are including 1 AND 3 AND World. In other words, the only era you guys think matters is the NES/SNES/64

3, World, and 64 will be in the top 5 most popular Mario games wherever you go, not just here

I'd sooner drop 1 than any of those three but its overall impact is kinda undeniable (unlike Donkey Kong)

And most of that stuff got brought back too

When Nintendo wants to do nostalgia pulls in Mario games, they almost always pull from 3 or World for a reason (and 64 occasionally in stuff like Galaxy 2)

If the original is easily accessible, I'll play the original first. If I like it enough, I'll play the remake.

So on a whim I decided to look up who the original cereal mascot was (It's Cap'n Crunch, by the way, unless you count the Quaker Oats Man for oatmeal), and I found this.

I haven't played either Octopath Traveler game, but Triangle Strategy's voice acting is pretty mediocre. Thankfully, I have a high tolerance for that sort of thing because TS is really good, but yeah, it can be rough.

Also Captain America was probably a little more well known than people think simply because he was AMERICA the superhero

I'm trying to think of how I'd rank these. I wasn't here for Mario/Cloud, but Snake/Seph might be #1 for me because somebody finally beating Clinkeroth 1-on-1 was kinda bananas at the time.

Vincent/Squall was a really good match, too, just with an unfortunate outcome.
