This is all on the Pokemon Company, who depend on the games to provide a starting point for merchandise and TCG products and they carefully coordinate their merchandise and TCG schedule to fit into the length of each generation. So when a new generation comes out, it introduces new Pokemon that can then be used for merchandise and TCG products. You still had to pay for a second game to get the full experience. Shield gets superior Slowking and stays best version. The fact that we're getting new Pokemon is bad news for Steiner's Board 8 Ranks the Gen 8 ranking project. Before the direct, Steiner was planning to start the project on May 24th. But if the DLC is going to introduce a substantial amount of new Gen 8 Pokemon, you wouldn't want them to be excluded from the project. USUM may have only introduced 5 new Pokemon, but we already know of 10 new Pokemon that are confirmed for the Sword/Shield DLC (including Galarian Forms). This includes the new Electric and Dragon Regis which we've only seen the artwork for, along with Galarian Slowbro/Slowking which haven't been shown yet but are implied to exist based on the reveal of Galarian Slowpoke. It's hard to imagine that there won't be even more new Pokemon introduced in the DLC based on the very few amount of Pokemon that were revealed in the base game before release. I think the DLC is going to have a lot more Pokemon that we won't know about until the DLC releases. As an added bonus, you won't have to play through the game again, which you would have to do if Game Freak decided to release a third version (or pair of sequels) to expand upon the original games. That currently works out to a price of $15 for each DLC, assuming of course there won't be any extra DLC after those 2 DLC packs. I haven't seen anything in the current GotY poll results that definitively places RE2 as the top game. Fire Emblem: Three Houses finished with a higher overall percentage in its poll compared to RE2 in the PS4 poll. The Switch poll also finished with about 1100 more votes than the PS4 poll, which implies the Switch poll had stronger competition overall. The other possible candidates for 2000 is FFIX and Majora's Mask. Back then, Majora's Mask certainly wasn't loved like it has become now, so it would have been a bad choice from the perspective of choosing what game would have likely won for 2000. Ever since Pokemon Go, it seems like the Pokemon Company has been trying to wildly throw darts at a dartboard and hoping one of them hits the center of the board. With Pokemon Go showing the true potential of what kind of profit a mobile game can bring in, the race is on to try and find the next Pokemon mobile game that can achieve even half of what Pokemon Go has accomplished. Which explains the massive focus on mobile games after Pokemon Go. It's unlikely that LA would have benefited from this in the Switch poll which is more top heavy than the games in this poll. When you factor in the presence of Luigi's Mansion 3, Pokemon, and Super Mario Maker 2, there's far less reason to vote for LA if you haven't played the game because it's more likely you have played one of the other games in the Switch poll. LA might actually be stronger than the Switch poll would suggest based on the early vote totals in today's poll. This poll has 905 votes at the end of the first hour. For comparison, the Switch poll had 931 votes at the end of the first hour and finished with 9599 votes. Despite the lack of RE2, today's poll is on track for about 9000 to 9400 votes (only slightly less than the Switch poll) while outperforming the PS4 poll by at least 500 votes or more. This poll breaking 9000 votes would imply LA is doing an excellent job at drawing in votes despite not having RE2 in the poll and this poll being less top heavy than the Switch poll. I saw someone suggest MAX Sword and MAX Shield as possible names for the expanded version of Sword/Shield. That name suggestion makes more sense than Ultra Sword and Ultra Shield with Dynamax being the new mechanic for Gen 8. Zigzagoon posted... In Smogon's National Dex metagames (where all Pokemon are available), Primal Groudon, Dusk Mane Necrozma, and Ho-Oh can somewhat keep Zacian in check.
