Oops, am very late in saying that I've really enjoyed reading your write-ups and all the other discussion in this topic.

There's been quite a few games that I've enjoyed and/or that are on my radar now, of which I'm especially pleasantly surprised to see there's quite a few Sayonara Wild Hearts fans here!

I'm guessing this is a long shot, but I'll ask about it anyways...

There was some text upon, I think, starting up the demo that detailed what would transfer to the full game and what wouldn't. I didn't think to take a screenshot, I just remember that nicknames and sizes would transfer, while levels and a few other things wouldn't. That would seem to encourage synthesizing in the demo as much as possible; if only I recalled what else didn't transfer.

Sorry I haven't posted at all this week; I've been mentally occupied to the point where I only finished my first listen tonight. It'll take me another few days to add two more and a ranking, so no need to worry about including mine in the standings.

Hopefully I'll eventually resume regularly participating - I really have enjoyed and appreciated Rank the Tracks and all the music I've found as a result, so thank you all - our host especially. In the meantime, I'd like to ask to be removed from the user cycle. For similar reasons, I won't be voting for Johnbobb's week.

I also didn't want to comment on my choice of Madonna album because I didn't feel informed enough. I guess now I'll say that Like a Prayer felt like the closest thing to a compromise pick from Madonna's discography, between sales, lasting popularity, acclaim, and the evolution of her direction over time.

Nina Simone - Pastel Blues > Bruce Springsteen - Born in the U.S.A. > Grant Kirkhope - Banjo-Kazooie: Re-Jiggyed

I would love to see us tackle Nina Simone, though admittedly that's pretty much off vibes and name value for now. I'm not as excited about Bruce Springsteen, and also I could see Born to Run working out better. Grant Kirkhope simply seems outclassed here.

Again only reached two listens this week, ack. At least I knew the whole album before, unlike others I've tried to rank recently. And so:

  1. I Would Die 4 U - More about Prince's self-concept than the album's most obvious lyrical themes, which has little to do with the pretty happenstance yet highly personal reasons I hold it dear.
  2. When Doves Cry - It simply speaks for itself.
  3. Lets Go Crazy - To me, maybe one of the most marvelously composed and remarkably fun songs ever, and a perfect match for Purple Rain (the song).
  4. Purple Rain - He more than earned an indulgent ending, one which hits more than enough of the right notes.
  5. Take Me with U
  6. Baby Im a Star - Effervescent, including in its espousal of some of Prince's ideals. We are a star.
  7. Darling Nikki
  8. The Beautiful Ones - Impressive instrumentation, but I'm iffy about its lyrics.
  9. Computer Blue
Love and desire, and the intersection of the two, are topics rather closer to my heart now than, say, a year ago. Prince's singular, passionately sensual perspective particularly speaks to that part of me.

To be fair, if nominations opened for a 128-entrant character battle here today, the resulting bracket probably wouldn't have a single Overwatch character (or League character either, though).

It's interesting to me, at least, to consider the snubs from this field. For example,

Among absent entrants of character battles past, CATS, KOS-MOS (who's only missed the one with vote-ins since her first game's North American release), and Ness tie for the most appearances, at eight a piece; Duke Nukem follows at seven, then there's several snubs with six. Princess Peach only has five contests to her name, but imo the Mario movie makes her warrant special mention.

Among consistent presences, Commander Shepard, GLaDOS, and Neku Sakuraba have each made all four contests they've been eligible for, the first two with consistently high seeds. Ike, Lloyd Irving, Miles Edgeworth, Ness, and Zidane Tribal have the longest active streaks of any snub, and the former's only been absent from 2006 since his introduction.

The strongest snubbed veterans in conventional circumstances are likely Pokmon Trainer Red and Squirtle, though the latter missed 2018 anyways. 2B's not quite on the same level but would still be a shocking snub.

Also, the Doom Slayer's essentially both a recent character who the model could reasonably expect to fare well and an "iconic" character who's been missed previously. ...And instead of any of the above, there's two instances of Tails.

I'm not as negative on Act 3, but I agree that said decision reflects rather worse on the act's narrative than on Veronica as a character.

With that said, yes. Veronica's my favorite DQXI character, for both her characterization and her prowess in combat.
