I pledged to post my thoughts about the entries on jcgamer's top 50 horror movies list I hadn't seen as I watched them, so here's a bit about Ready or Not:

I could point to a few subjective flaws easily enough: Grace could have been a bit more than a blank-slate protagonist meant to serve the story, the movie at times seemed to indulge in profanity almost for the sake of it, and I felt it was rather obvious and inert as an attempt at sociocultural commentary. That being said, I think it pretty much hit all its marks as a funny and scary thrill ride. It roused my emotions in so many directions over its runtime, from the visceral shock of Grace's narrow, bloody escapes and a dumbwaiter crushing a maid to death through the effective comedy of the kitchen scene and the car crash to the uncommonly strong execution of purely dramatic scenes such as the various conversations between Grace and Alex. Weaving's performance in particular was instantly appealing, placing me in Grace's audience-surrogate shoes just as intended and keeping me there through the twists and turns.

I'd 'only' call Ready or Not my third favorite horror movie of 2019 right now (behind The Lighthouse and Us and ahead of Crawl), but that's no reflection on my lack of enjoyment.

In case anyone wants to talk Night in the Woods with me, preferably if you've already finished a playthrough first (spoilers). It's not a pure horror game by any means, but it has clear elements at least.

I would be disappointed that this collection isn't coming to PC, and to a lesser extent that DQ5 and DQ6 apparently don't have their remake updates. Otherwise, I think this would be a pretty cool idea, but I don't have any of those three consoles, so maybe a 3/10 on your scale?

It's time for more Maeposting!

Angus's fix worked like a charm! Once I finally got on my laptop, I found out that Gregg, Angus, and Bea were heading to a party tomorrow night at the state forest, and I'm not missing that! But first, there's this sweet new game called Demontower that's calling my name, which I played deep into the night.

Upon waking the next afternoon, I decided to embrace my inner daredevil by climbing a tree to cross part of Possum Springs balancing atop power lines. Afterwards, on my way to meet Bea at The Pickaxe to arrange my ride to the party, I encountered a Navy recruiter, which I guess entails boats? But I have plenty enough direction in my life between my friends, video games, and maybe bass playing. Fortunately, Bea was willing to give me a ride to the party once I met her, but she also told me that Conor was probably going to be there. I don't like that one bit - me and him were once "a thing" in others' terms before we broke up on poor terms.

On my way back home to prepare, I was accosted by my aunt the mall cop, who went on about how I wasn't supposed to see that severed arm, how dangerous Possum Springs apparently is, and my supposed naivete. I think she has it out for me, a thought which I make sure to write down. ACAB after all. After that harrowing experience, I couldn't resist having some of mom and dad's homemade tacos. Then I needed to get ready for the party quickly so I wouldn't miss Bea's arrival at 8:30 PM sharp. I tried to say a few things to reassure myself, which culminated in my determination that I would make my own luck, in a luck machine.

Now I'm at the party and oh god this is so awkward Conor is really here. But Gregg said it best, as usual: I might as well ruin my own night by talking to Conor rather than letting his presence ruin it for me.

I don't *hate* Fox, he's just mediocre to me.

I mean, I did say you consider him mediocre, after all!

Also, I guess Fox could be as low as sixth-tier Nintendo in terms of contest strength, depending on where you consider Pikachu, DK, and the non-Pikachu Pokmon entrants to be tier-wise.

Also, I'm judging Monika based on her rallies, as I would say there's very few if any opponents they wouldn't have manifested against this year.

I hate to rain on your parade, but there's a few things I feel like noting for accuracy.

First off, 2004 had a company cap of something like ten characters per company, thus leading to many snubs who would have otherwise made the bracket (I seem to recall Serge being one of them). Chances are Zelda was another in this category. Second, 2005 had a format of eight 1 through 8 seeds instead of four 1 through 16 seeds, so Zelda was actually somewhere between 33rd and 40th in terms of nominations.

Finally, and most importantly, Allen auto-assigned nine of B8's most popular rallies (whether for 2013 or historical) to 8-seeds in 2013, of which Epona was one of them. We'll sadly never know if she truly out-nominated Zelda, albeit that 16-seed makes it look rather likely.

My personal games of the decade so far have been Civilizations 5 and 6, Terraria, and Stardew Valley. Honorable mention to Minecraft, the Smash series, and the Pokmon series for taking up huge amounts of my gaming time this decade.

As for why you're not big on Smash Ultimate, SND, it seems like you appreciate games that become truly big by pushing the envelope in some way, particularly when it comes to gaming as a whole. In my opinion at least, Smash Ultimate is this decade's apex of iterative gaming, but I don't think the iterative approach is something that sticks with you. I would hypothesize that if the next Smash game took a radically different and innovative approach to its general premise, even with mixed execution, you would appreciate that more than you do Smash Ultimate. I'm not trying to judge by saying those things - everyone has different opinions and preferences and those disagreements make the world go round, so to speak. That being said, would all that be accurate about your gaming opinions, or am I totally off the mark?

With the interest from last topic, I think I'll be going ahead with my idea of having bonus slates after our regular schedule is complete. That being said, we've got a few different ways we can approach this.

My first idea was to take lists of 30 pre-determined veterans who missed out on CBX, and 30 pre-determined newcomers who haven't been in a contest before (both selected to prioritize strength) and have you the rankers tackle those. My preliminary choices for those lists are the following:

Veteran Snubs: Banjo, Barret Wallace, CATS, Cid Highwind, Darth Revan, Diablo, Dracula, Epona, Falco Lombardi, Gilgamesh, Jecht, Ken Masters, Liquid Snake, Marth, M. Bison, Meta Knight, Midna, Missingno, Morrigan Aensland, Pit, Pokmon Trainer Blue, Proto Man, Raiden, Rikku, Rydia of Mist, Solaire of Astora, Squirtle, Strider Hiryu, Urdnot Wrex, Weighted Companion Cube, and Zack Fair

Newcomer Snubs: 9S, Bahamut, Black Mage, Blastoise, Bulbasaur, Chocobo, Dark Link, Dark Samus, Death, Ditto, Dogmeat, Johnny Cage, Left Pong Paddle, Linkle, Lulu, Majora, MegaMan.EXE, Misty, Paper Mario, Piranha Plant, Professor Oak, Psycho Mantis, Red XIII, Roy, Sheik, Sir Charles, Space Michael Jackson, TaliZorah nar Rayya, Venom Snake, and Yuffie Kisaragi

If you're wondering who some of those newcomers are, most of them have links to wiki pages explaining about them from this page, which also has a partial list of other potential newcomers: http://board8.wikia.com/wiki/New_Characters

I'm open to suggestions for any characters who deserve to be on either of those lists, or regarding any character on one of those lists who just doesn't belong.

Another alternative for the veterans is to use darkx's idea of ranking all the veterans who have been in at least 3 character battles (but not CBX) in one ranking. If you have any other ideas you think might work for either the veteran or newcomer slates, please suggest them!

Hello everyone, and welcome to the project where we rank all the CBX characters by contest strength! This time, well be ranking the Fodder tier, comprised of the following characters:

Aqua, Aya Brea, Cuphead, D.Va, Godot, Gordon Freeman, Guile, Isabelle, Joel, John Marston, Kazuma Kiryu, Metal Man, Monika, Neku Sakuraba, Noctis Lucis Caelum, Primrose, Ryo Hazuki, Shantae, and Yu Narukami

Before we get going, heres the Rules, as always:

1. If at all possible, please number your rankings (ex. 1 for the strongest character, etc.) - it makes your ranks much clearer, allowing me to tabulate them much easier.
2. Rankings of indirect strength are preferred, but direct rankings will be allowed, especially in tandem with indirect rankings.
3. Stick to one ranking per tier (or one ranking each of indirect and direct strength if you choose to separate them) - dont try to sway the standings with multiple accounts.
4. Youre always welcome to submit retroactive rankings if you missed one or more days, as well as change your existing rankings if so inclined, up until this project ends.
5. And most importantly, be nice to each other, even people you dont like! Discussion is welcomed and encouraged, but this isnt ultimately meant to be an overly serious project, so I dont want to see any knock-down, drag-out arguments developing in here about how someones not ranking by the stats or whatever else - use your discretion about this.

Our spreadsheet, where you can find all of this project's raw data: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1s6rNxUlXY3kpo9Ru-Pyw9CjtGBIRasJKiUv6a7cEgEw/edit?usp=sharing

And our Board 8 Wiki page, where you can find the list of tiers, among other things: http://board8.wikia.com/wiki/Ranking_the_CBX_Characters_by_Contest_Strength

Heres the Fodder characters listed in an easy copy-paste format:

Aqua
Aya
Cuphead
D.Va
Godot
Gordon
Guile
Isabelle
Joel
John Marston
Kazuma
Metal Man
Monika
Neku
Noctis
Primrose
Ryo Hazuki
Shantae
Yu Narukami

As for yesterday's results, here's our current ranking of the High Fodder tier:

1. Shepard
2. Garrus
3. Ramza
4. Chris
5. Ezio
6. K. Rool
7. Shovel Knight
8. Riku
9. Claire
10. Richter (tie)

12. Joker
13. Metal Sonic
14. Ellie
15. Geno
16. Lloyd
17. Velvet
18. Edgeworth

Finally, Day 9, which will be the Low Fodder tier, will be going up in the evening of December 30th (PT).

Why you don't make a small bracket with these matches and some others that you consider important?

I don't feel like I'm a great judge of this, since I wasn't around before 2013.

What I'll do instead is increase the nomination cap to 15, to give an additional 5 nominations to everyone who already nominated. @spooky96 since I know you wanted to nominate more matches.

Going to do spoilers from here because I forgot to give such a disclaimer in my topic title and/or intro.

I utterly failed at bass, but what did Angus, Bea, and Gregg for that matter expect? It's been years since I played it before. Afterwards was dinner, and even bad pizza is still good by virtue of being pizza. Then, our group found a severed arm upon leaving the diner! I couldn't resist the urge to poke at it with a stick for a bit, before my aunt the mall cop showed up and told us all to go home in pairs. Riding home with Bea was awkward, but not as awkward as mom and dad not having been around to greet me and pick me up from the bus stop last night.

I didn't wake up until 4 PM the next day, and then I felt the need to browse my laptop after being away from the internet for 36 hours. But lo and behold, I found that my laptop had some rather embarrassing problems, and I would need to talk with Angus to get them fixed. On the way, I conversed with an individual who supposedly met me the day after I was born, and had some intriguing-sounding things to say about my grandpa - things that I didn't have the time to listen to! Angus left his shift early, so I had to head to his apartment and wound up electrocuting myself to meet him! Oh Gregg... Naturally I couldn't tell Angus exactly what issue my laptop was having, but he was nice enough to give me a flash drive that could fix it, at the minor cost of potentially losing some of my data.

This, as with future updates, will be written in first person, as if I'm Mae the character. Every few posts, though, I'll try to summarize my thoughts on the game so far.

So I snuck over some electrical wiring to get across a barrier, fell, and got arrested by my aunt the mall cop? Well then, apparently that's a thing I nonchalantly say to my dad.

The next day, after some sleep, I decide not to get in some bass practice, then reconnect with my mom, who suggests I head in town to reconnect with Gregg. I stop a good few times along the way for some conversation with townsfolk, one of whom still refers to me as the killer for something I apparently did back in middle school? Another alludes to a break they're taking now that it's 5, and combined with the sky's orangish tint, either I overslept or I spent too long talking to people. Then I finally reached the Snack Falcon and exchanged barbed insults in the way of old friends reconnecting. Promptly, the freewheeling Gregg declares his shift to be done, and invites me for impromptu band practice, to begin now. In my notebook on my way, I write: "GREGG RULZ OK" with a drawing of him holding a knife.

Longest Night complete! That was interesting. Now onto NitW itself.

I'll start with Longest Night, then, and move on to Lost Constellation after NitW, if I enjoy it.

@ZenOfThunder has been very busy lately, from what I understand. Worst comes to worst, I can use the magic of a certain site to retrieve all our postings within those topics.

Heyo!

I would personally prefer seeing Sheik in the field along with Zelda. To me, Sheik is distinct enough to merit a separate slot in her own right, and Zelda would be quite a snub.

I'm planning to play through Night in the Woods, and I'll write about some of my thoughts as I go along in this topic, if anyone's interested. First, though, should I play Longest Night and/or Lost Constellation prior to starting NitW proper?

I was never going to do any sort of comprehensive list, because that's against the spirit of my tier-focused approach to this project (which I should have clarified, whoops). I was planning on lists of 30 each of returners and newcomers, selected to prioritize strength.

Also, I thought about putting Edgeworth in the next tier down, but didn't based on some preceding topics among other things.
