I'll stay for the bonus poll and probably a few days after the contest, then it's mostly back to the system boards (PS4, Switch, etc.). I don't like this board that much so I probably won't be around again until next contest if I even come back. I'm probably going to consolidate my gaming down to fewer games, so I may not stand much of a chance in a contest like this in the future, so I may not bother (I currently have 323 points, so I'm rank 67, in the 94.42 percentile, so I'm doing fairly good this contest). I'll also probably in general be using this site less after this.

Mario has very little depth, even with his cartoons and RPGs. He's mostly just a funny stereotype. Galaxy is the only mainline Mario that has a good story at the end, but Mario is still a pretty one dimensional character in it. Zelda actually has character.

The loser bracket rally for MM is more then likely last minute, rushed, and desperate. MM in general probably won't maintain the momentum of this vote over the long term in the contests. So MM is probably weaker because of this.

Oddly Sonic is probably one of the 'safer' NN since his fanbase, as cringy as they are, keep him alive. If anything Chrono and Megaman are the 'weak links' IMO.

By that logic, Crono doesn't deserve to be there. I mean, he was relevant in the '90s where he starred in one whole game and made a cameo appearance in Chrono Cross. Cloud was relevant in Crisis Core, and he had his own movie. The rest have appeared in multiple games and have been mascots of some sort.

And yet Crono defeated Bowser, a pretty relevant and iconic character. Because enough people still think that he (or more accurately, his game) mean more to them than other characters. They helped make gaming popular, and some of them were part of our favorite gaming experiences ever. For me, some of those experiences came during my childhood and teenage years. Beating the first Zelda game was a huge accomplishment for me. Super Metroid was so unique and cool. Mario was the first game I ever played. And Chrono Trigger delivered a nearly flawless experience that made me emotional when I finished it.

The Noble Nine will only fall when there are more people who haven't played those games than there are those that did. Crono was the first of the Noble Nine to lose, but having Chrono Trigger ported to Steam probably helped give him the edge over Bowser because it made him more relevant again. I could totally see Sonic dropping off that list because a lot of his games since the glory days on the Genesis have not been that good. Or just flat out terrible. Conversely, Master Chief meant more to the childhoods of people half my age than he did to me.

So for now, characters like Mario and Link have new games that remind us why they deserve to be on this list. And others like Sonic and Samus are there because they helped define the industry. There's a little wiggle room, like with Megaman, who I think would have had a tough time against Auron, Zelda, etc. But I think the group is secure for now and would be for some time.

I also share some of those feelings about those games, but one it doesn't change the fact that it was bound to happen, and two, if you take off the nostalgia googles, there are definitely flaws in those games and flaws with the 90s in general. There's some shit that annoys me in my current situation, but I really have no desire to go back to the 90s.

Despite the flaws with time travel, Crono's game held up pretty well, and Frog has a decent amount of Internet cred. But still I do agree, Crono should probably be weaker then what he is and may be in coming years. We're almost into 2020, about 25 years since, sort of, Crono's only real game, and the time travel in it is flawed in itself (plus there are some other flaws).

I have Zelda beating Sonic and also Samus in the losers division of my second chance bracket.

Really though this game is par for the course for Switch.

Another great game that was passed over by the mainstream cause they mostly gave up on the Wii at that point. So of course it gets ported to the Switch, the mainstream console where mainstream gamers are just stealing every past game they stupidly skipped over while real gamers have to sit through droughts.

I use to work at Blockbuster. I was out of there a fair amount of time before it closed up, but when it was closing, no one gave a shit. Gamestop is lucky that its dying business model still gets as much love and defense as it does.

This is actually true when looking at really old games that you would find say on virtual console. They're usually cheaper then the physical copy. Physical is only a fair amount cheaper then digital with used somewhat recent stuff, especially on Ebay. It can be like $20-$40 cheaper. You still have to keep in mind though that that digital purchase is still basically a new purchase with no risk of scratches and all the other benefits of digital.

Also it is true that Steam can have decent sales and stuff can just in general get really cheap on there.

Trade ins are not completely worthless. If you buy a game, play it for the first week, and trade it in you can get like 40 bucks for it, then you just wait for the digital version to go on sale for dirt cheap.

60-40+10= 30 bucks for a game you got to play (and most likely beat) on release and then keep forever after that, is a pretty decent deal imhhhho

I wouldn't really use something like this, too many games are too long and I don't like being rushed anyway. Plus if it was good enough to buy there is some chance I'll want to come back years later to play it.

Its common knowledge what dug addicts are all about and its fairly common knowledge what Gamestop is all about (they bare responsibility with who they hire and much of the stuff is corporate practice anyway), so wanting all of them to go away is within reason. But still, my original post about the drug addicts was just a general understanding of someone (like Vlado) who would want to murder them, and was more so if I ever had to live in a situation like I described again, a pretty abusive one, I wasn't going to take it and bad things were going to happen. Drug addicts already got one strike with me, they aren't getting another.

But I know, most of you are probably a bunch of kool 20 somethings where drugs are the koolest and you can't dare speak ill of them. I also bet you would be pissed and not tolerate the same stuff you want me to, and I bet some of the older people in your lives wouldn't tolerate it either.

I'd rather lose the $12 so the dev can get triple the money from my purchase instead of dumping into the giant dumpster fire that is gamestop. Not to mention the frequent digital sales which defeat any trade in benefits, and the free return policies on Steam and Itch. (Side note: buy on itch.io so the dev gets 100% of the money.)
