The pitcher and the catcher are the only 2 positions that are required at all times (and batter from the other team, obviously). Everyone else spends the vast majority of their time standing and scratching themselves.If your team's pitcher strikes out the side, that's really exciting and doesn't happen very often. On average, that happens about once every 2-3 games. But because the other players potentially didn't need to be there on that not super common occurrence, it makes the entire sport boring? |

Players are good enough in MLB to hit it where players aren't if that was the case. Someone could fall asleep while playing soccer and not affect anything either. People could just step over them. |
