Fictional characters is the one everyone always talks about that hasnt happened yet.

Female villains would be so weak, did any female villains even make the contest?

Another games contest could be fun, but because the GoTD contest is the year after it would be good to mix it up.

Consoles is another one- have they done that before?

Samus probably deserved to make the short list in my mind, but for me after Zelda it would be Tifa.

Alucard and Cloud did well also

Smash boost was my omission but what truly evidenced it?

I.e which characters would you point out that got a smash boost?

Was it just Cloud not declining like Seph, because I wonder if that was due to other factors.

Smash didnt help Mega Man beat Crono in a debatable match and it didnt stop the Sonic decline.

Didnt do much for Beyonetta.

I reckon the Smash boost might be a red herring, and was sort of dispelled a bit late in the contest

Some that come to mind are:

- Decline in the bottom half of the NN and rise of former 'Nearly Noble Niners' such as Pikachu, Tifa, Zelda

- Rise in the popularity of female characters

- Firming up of Link's dominance with a new 2nd tier of Cloud, Mario, Samus and Zelda established

- Lack of the potential to drum up any major rallies (commensurate with the decline in prominence of the contest across other sites)

- Rise in popularity of mascot characters like Pikachu, DK, Tails

- Rise in popularity of secondary characters when compared to primary ones (Tails/Sonic), and new SFF/rSFF weightings Tifa/Sephiroth Mario/Samus

- Return to 2010 levels of Pokemon popularity (bucked only by the rise of Pikachu)

- Weakening of characters from post 2000 videogames, and a failure for new games to make a mark

- Minor rallies (Hentai) and smaller vote stuffing efforts having an increased effect on outcome

- Decline in voting

- Increase in close matches

Any that I have missed?

Cloud would have clutch beat Samus in this contest, lets be honest.

Samus might come out better against many characters, but she wouldnt have taken down Cloud when push came to shove.

FFVII Remake would have to come out during the contest, and be good, for it to work

Everyone loving the Cloud comeback, who would have thought.

It should do, yeah, but only by about 500. Enough to give a history but not enough to be a massive spike

Well I did my usual check on NordVPN and I have to say there has been more stuffing this match than I have ever seen.

Id say 50% of the servers worldwide have been used to vote in this contest.

To be fair the Tifa X match was much more influenced by vote stuffing than reddit rallies. Also the messaging that I saw Tifa is taking a real pounding in the GameFAQs contests was hilarious, and well worth a few votes.

What vote stuffing? I have still yet to see proof, or even any evidence suggesting as such. If anything, the voting trends lead more to Tifa stuffing, since she is now doing unnaturally well at a point where X should be winning based on decades of established trends

Tifa being the strongest non-Cloud FFVII party member isn't surprising. Aside from the obvious design stuff, she's in the game the most among party members, and she's been used in side material more often than pretty much all the other party members aside from possibly Yuffie (who, as much as I hate to say it, is not in the running for strongest party member for obvious plot reasons.

I think it's more Vincent dropped off a cliff due to no one remembering why the hell they liked him in the first place than anything and Tifa and Aeris (who should be expected to be weaker than Tifa for many reasons) holding relatively steady.

Sephiroth has been featured more prominently in side material Id say, such as Dissedia, Crisis Core and Kingdom Hearts. Vincent also has his own games we shouldnt forget.

Yuffie only has the brief appearance in Kingdom Hearts- am I missing something else?

I use NordVPN and after reading the previous topic about Peru I checked out of there was anything aus. Every single Peru server has voted, though I cant tell for who.
