If so what is it?

I play guitar and am reasonably good, especially at finger picking-- mainly play stuff I write. I can also tinker around on piano, bass, ukulele and sitar to a point where it sounds like i know what I'm doing. Can't play drums or anything like that to save my life. I have no idea how those guys can keep so many different limbs in time.

I'm willing to forgive a lot in sci-fi, as long as the creators stick to their own damn rules. Star Wars since the great EU purge has completely abandoned any semblance of continuity, which retroactively ruins the original movies.

If you could just hyperspace jump through a forcefield and pull up 1000 ft from the surface of Star Killer, why couldn't the rebels have just jumped through the shield around DSII in Jedi?

Technology to do that didn't exist in RotJ but, with the passage of time leading to TLJ, hyperspace jump technology got better.

But really who gives a fuck you're being pedantic.

What about fire in space Blackturtle? Opinions? And since when do all science fiction works follow the same 'science'? Was there some sort of international meeting of science fiction writers where they sat down and created the law of nature within science fiction works?

Also rebels might start spamming warp drive kamikazes now, who knows. Commercial planes have existed for a long time and it took forever terrorists to use them even though the precedent has been there for a long time.

That doesn't sound feminist at all. That sounds like Poe not listening to other characters who tell him time and time again not to be brash and to trust his superiors.

For what it's worth, I don't necessarily agree the movie wants you to disagree with Poe's actions. Sure, Holdo had a plan, but that doesn't mean that Poe's plan was bad necessarily. In fact I think the audience would believe it was pretty good. We just didn't realize Holdo had a plan and neither did Poe. You can argue about the writing for that til the end of time, but I really, really don't see it as being some weird feminist narrative. To me, it's a guy who was demoted vs superiors presented in a way that the audience sides with the character who was in the previous movie as opposed to this new character we know nothing about.

One thing I will agree with, throne room scene was fucking amazing.

It's just... they didn't follow up with the amazing risk they could've taken.

I am ALL IN for Episode 9 being Luke trying his damndest to save Ren and Rey from the dark side and maybe redeeming himself.

It's Disney tho so of course no risks

That doesnt add up. TLJ was pretty much all risk and fans were pissed whereas TFA was a no risk retelling of A New Hope and Abrams own Star Trek 09.

Now, I do enjoy dull movies. I have watched several films that belong to the 'Slow Cinema' movement. Not that I think The Last Jedi belongs anywhere near there, but you know...

Anyway, my reasons for loving The Last Jedi fall largely into the technical and stylistic aspects of the film. I guess I find the plot critiques so odd because I've never viewed Star Wars as a series where I cared about the actual details of how things worked? Like, to me, watching a Star Wars movie for the plot makes about as much sense as listening to Daft Punk for the lyrics.

I agree with everything in this post. The Last Jedi had some absolutely fantastic set pieces and gorgeous cinematography. It's a stunningly beautiful movie in my opinion. Maybe you don't care for the light speed suicide, but I find it hard to believe that someone didn't gasp in amazement at the way the scene was shot, the brilliant sound cut, and lingering on the destruction. It's moments like that that make Star Wars for me, personally, and when a Star Wars movie does something well (or even poorly) it is forever ingrained in your memory.

I think the problem with that scene is how it completely shits on the established rules of how hyperspace functions.

Then again, they already did that with the "let's just jump in THROUGH the planetary shield" bullshit in TFA, so I guess the science in science fiction is dead.

Maybe, but the way it was filmed and executed (if you can ignore the science fiction) is in my opinion one of the most breathtaking moments in movies.

The most egregious part of the movie, though, was definitely Rose not letting Finn sacrifice himself. Finn hasn't really done anything in the first two movies to justify his existence in my opinion. I really hope there is a big payoff for him in Episode IX.

Over the top antagonistic nature was because I fully anticipated the topic becoming a shitstorm so I figured I might as well start it-- except in favor of the movie.

For real though, I was just thinking about the movie this morning and realized it has been a bit more than a year since it came out. Even though I do think there are problems with the movie's plot, namely Holdo not just informing Poe what was going on since clearly Leia thinks highly of Poe to begin with, I kept vividly remembering certain scenes and set pieces. The cinematography itself was absolutely incredible and the movie did a great job of subverting fan theories, for better or worse. It tried new things and though some of it didn't work, the stuff that did was incredible in my opinion.

I think when episode 9 comes out some of the gaps that bother people such as who is Snoke and Rey's parents and that stuff could definitely be filled in. The Last Jedi is a dense movie and will likely benefit from being in the center of the trilogy. We'll see.

But for some reason though it's The Last Jedi, a legitimately awesome movie, that 'killed Star Wars'. Fuck off with that. The movie decimated the stupid Palpatine stand in with the series best fucking scene fuck yeah throne room scene, made Luke multifaceted and interesting, didn't make Rey's parents some dumbass connection to OT trilogy, actually gave Poe Dameron a character instead of being a wooden cutout, holy fucking shit the lightspeed suicide was awesome fuck all you arm chair scientists, Kylo vs Luke's projection was fucking awesome, Fynn vs Phasma was cool as shit I mean did you see that fucking shot of her piercing blue eye when she knows she's going to die, the fucking ships kicking up the red dirt on the snow planet was baller as fuck

FES is much better than the PSP version. You like walk around and stuff as opposed to everything being through menus and point and click screens. Much more immersive. Plus, I actually ended up enjoying not directly controlling the party members. You can influence their actions such as attack, defend, buff, etc, but not directly control what they choose to do. Made the game a bit more immersive and it was kind of fun having to account for not having direct control.

Except of course this will happen at some point

I think some of his videos are really funny. Typically the older stuff before he moved to NYC and increased production values and started having a set and stupid crap like that. Despite that, the Flex Tape video of his is my favorite of all his videos. It comes off as pretty natural reactions, lower production values than most his other new stuff, funny jokes, and frankly it just seems like he actually felt passionate about the video. Like I really believe he was at a bar, saw the commercial and thought 'this is insane I should make a video' and churned the thing out in like a day or two without overthinking.

#73: Wario

In all the time Wario has been in Smash, I think I've played him like twice. Both were when I was picking random. I would never willingly choose Wario, I don't like Wario. In fact, I hate Wario, everything about Wario is awful. He is fat, ugly, mismatched color Mario with an identity of basically being repulsive. There isn't anything here for me to like and I am probably part of that market that keeps Nintendo from putting Waluigi into the game. He moves janky as all hell in game, his bike is annoying, its annoying watching him glow because hes literally going to attempt to fart his way to victory. To put it simply, he is a character with no appeal to me and narrowly dodged a last place ranking simply because I dislike the character and not the mere idea of his existence as a whole.

Wario is the best. I've had an insane amount of fun doing 2v2 online matches where me and my brother are both Wario and we just keep using his fucking motorcycle, vary the speed a bit and direction a bit, and just keep ramming into people. Every time the motorcycle breaks just pull it out again, no other moves other than recovery when necessary. It's so insanely stupid and fun I can't help but love it, especially because you inevitably win a lot.

The craziest thing about this to me is that all of that baby's future descendants will be enormously impacted by this. Though honestly I fully expect gene editing to be much more accepted by the time he/she would even have grandkids.

It's a pair of twins, so two lines of genetically altered descendants even.

Maybe, but there are likely a ton of off target effects meaning tons of other regions of DNA that have been affected, especially if Cas9 is still active in the babies which we don't know. It's entirely likely the babies won't have a normal lifespan.

It's what should have been the biggest news in the world for the last week but it seems like a lot of mainstream media isn't reporting on it. Briefly, a scientist in China implanted a woman with genetically edited embryos trying to mimic a known mutation that makes people immune to HIV, bypassing a million ethical, technical, and regulatory concerns regarding the methodology, rationale and procedure. Beyond that, the gene editing didn't do what he thought it-- he introduced new mutations that have never been studied. The whole situation is being widely condemned not just by the scientific community but China as well.

The whole thing is absolutely insane. Apparently now the Chinese scientist is missing. Read The Atlantic article if you really want to understand the scope of how fucked up it is.

But the the upgrades (not sure whether level ups or equipment was more at fault) combined with the exploration and degree of nonlinearity completely shatters any balance or difficulty curve and it means you're very likely to totally steamroll huge chunks of the game, including bosses. And yeah, that annoyed me. It could also be that some of those segments are just kinda poorly-designed stomps no matter what you have equipped or what order you do them in but I want to give the game benefit of the doubt!

That's a very articulate way of conveying my gripe about the game being easy. In the past I would have chalked it up to how much more nonlinear it is than most of the Metroid/Castlevania games, but ever since I played Hollow Knight which is quite possibly the most non-linear Metroidvania there is I realize it is entirely possible to balance the difficulty while maintaining open ended exploration.

I feel like everyone who has a vendetta against this game clicked on this topic to let their opinions be known.

I don't have a vendetta! I think it's a good game but it has been outshined by quite a few other Castlevania games. There are some weird design choices such as making the library out of the way, the game being super easy to the point you even wonder why there is a leveling system (not that the other Castlevanias are much better here), etc. Also, I'm not a fan of the inverted castle. I like the idea and it is nice you have freedom to collect Dracula's remains in whatever order but traversing it can be pretty cumbersome. I'm one of the few people that think Portrait of Ruin handled recycling areas better-- at least there the messed up portraits had unique layouts, wasn't annoying to traverse, and the environments were slightly tweaked to make things more demented.

Symphony of the Night is definitely good. It's just that there are better Castlevanias and, if you expand to the Metroidvania genre as a whole, there are even more games that excel at what it tried to accomplish. Then again, I think Circle of the Moon is the best Castlevania so take anything I say with a grain of salt.

I thought VII 3DS was awful. I played for about 25 or 30 hours and it was a fucking slog. All the mini stories in the past were boring with the exception of maybe one. So much text for such mediocre writing. It's so slow. Everyone who likes the game would keep saying the game gets way better after something called Alltrades at the 20ish hour point and the game 'begins'. Definitely not the case. I think I did two or three more scenarios in the past and it was just as boring and uninteresting as before.

Other minor complaints include every town looking more or less the same, constant pop in of trees on the overworld, and the fact that the map on the bottom screen doesn't have any of the towns labeled. Good luck figuring out where to zoom if you want to go to a specific region on the map once you have more than a dozen options.
