Having a smart doorbell helps with this. You can just talk to them through the doorbell itself from anywhere as long as you have a data connection. I've never really felt the need for one. Even ignoring the potential privacy concerns, my home office is in the room next to the front door and I'm always home except for like one day per month. I open the door and tell them I'm working and not interested and that's the end of it. My dad had to stop working in the mid 90's though because he has macular degeneration and is blind in one eye and extremely poor vision in the other. By that point my brothers and I were high school age though.
