Also is there a list of stories somewhere that you have covered so far scarlet?

I'd like to try and see if I can get caught up on what you are presenting here.

There will be other companies after the first month.

Aw nice. I've been reading a lot from Image, Valiant and Vertigo lately.

I have been collecting a bunch of sets and just recently grabbed up all of The Sandman books which has been pretty interesting thus far.

I actually ordered another interesting series yesterday too called Locke & Key and can't wait to get those on Thursday.

What other companies will you be covering if I may ask?

Aww man am I too late to join? I'm reading stuff all the time. I'm a little bit concerned that I won't have access to most of the stories that you want to cover though.

I'm guessing this will just be DC and Marvel?

The 70's list grows ever smaller but it has been slowing down a bit. Will it be the first decade to reach it's Top 100? Could be but the 2010's aren't too far behind. Anyway, this was a pretty big hit back in the day. I've heard numerous variations of the song and even heard it sung in gospel before although it does have kind of the right fit doesn't it? I honestly can't recall if I've ever heard anything else from this band. Maybe they were one-hit wonders before that was even a thing perhaps. I don't mind the beat and it did well on the charts reaching #1 in a couple of countries. We are so close to that 6 point mark. By the time we get to 7 points I actually like without a doubt 99% of the remaining songs in the ranking. This is gonna start getting pretty tough when we get to that point. I just wonder if I'll even have an audience by the time I get to talk about the tunes I love the most...

I was a Freshman in high school when this came out and it seemed like it was on every radio station for a time. I wanted to call it "Soft Pop" but that genre doesn't exist even though it probably should tbh. This was the kind of song everyone didn't mind but no one wanted to admit it in public or at least none of my friends did. When I hear the song it immediately reminds me of the time I spent on the yearbook committee. I had dabbled in graphic arts for the entirety of high school and the yearbook team is where that started. We'd frequently listen to the radio as we worked on various yearbook projects and this happened to cycle through a lot. I was only a part of that process as a Freshman and decided to leave the opportunity to other folks after that.

Hey it's the first Red Hot Chili Pepper tune to drop in the ranking. Man the late 90's really did crank out some major Alternative Rock didn't it. I used to like this song much better but then after a couple hundred listens I started to change the radio station as soon as it came on. Not sure if it's too much repetition that got to me or something else but I am usually not interested to hear this song nowadays. It might actually be in their Top 20 songs of their careers imo since I am not actually gonna take the time to look that up. I'm almost sure of it though. I had a couple of their cassettes as a kid and until the release of Californication I always liked Under The Bridge the best (which I deemed unworthy of this ranking for some reason...). The video is kinda cool and looks just like a real playstation game doesn't it?

I have a decent number of memories connected to this tune in the 80's as it was pretty popular back then. New Wave was breaking out everywhere like a virus and the Eurythmics really stole some of that limelight with this and their most popular Sweet Dreams (included in the ranking btw). I don't recall it being so symphonic but it sounds as good as ever imo but that could be because the link is the re-mastered version of the song. Not enough to make it higher unfortunately but we are almost in the 6 point range of the ranking despite being so low in the list so that actually isn't such a terrible statement to make imo. What a weird a** video though huh? I don't get the creepy dude filming the lead singer like she's throwing out an uncontainable amount of sex appeal. It's definitely not there lol.

This was a fill in selection when I couldn't quite pad out the 2010's with tunes I actually liked and was familiar with. I think I grabbed it from a connected youtube link when I was searching for the best tunes from this decade. I'm sort of not that impressed tbh. I do like that it has an 80's sound going on but that just makes it blatantly less innovative imo. The message is sort of ok but every aspect about the tune sounds mediocre and "safe" as in it seems like the band was using a surefire charting formula with recognizable scales and rhythm. It did ok on the charts but I don't know if it's finished making it's rounds in the mainstream as it is still fairly new. With more tunes like this I can see this band making a surge in popularity before the decade is over tbh.

Wow talk about bringing back the memories. This immediately made me think of a buddy of mine growing up. He was the first to discover this band in our circle of friends which is something he could never do for anything else and I remember him being so proud of it that he went over the top trying to promote them as the best music anyone could hear. Now I won't quibble as it was pretty cool music back in the day but they aren't so fantastic that I'd ever try to look like an a** for over-promoting them. Good ol Tim though. It's probably something he's still proud of to this day. I haven't talked to him in close to 12 years but that I am sure of lol. Tool has always been an experimental band to me though. I don't feel like they've entirely defined themselves even though they've got a decent scope of hits but at the same time I can't really recall too many bands that sound similar so they do have sort of a unique sound clearly.

I'm not sure if CSI increased the popularity of this tune but I know that it's actually negatively impacted my opinion of the song. I have watched most of the original CSI series and after hearing the intro that many times I've become completely biased against the sound of this song. I remember hearing it a few times in the 80's but then almost never until CSI came around so that is probably why I don't favor the song in it's original state too well. It is one of the band's most iconic releases but meh is completely how I feel about it.

Ah Chicago. I used to love these guys until I started to notice that they use the exact same formula in almost all of their music which is hard to tolerate if you've actually listened through their 20+ album portfolio. These guys are one of the few bands in this ranking to have been making music (and still making music) throughout the last 50 years though which is pretty incredible tbh. Interestingly enough, they've had just as many band members over the years as they do albums. This tune is a bit away from my selected tunes by the band in terms of how much I like them. They do a very good job at making soft rock I'll give them that but they haven't really produced as many epic tunes as one could imagine from 24 albums. I typically like 1 or 2 songs from each of their releases and a couple of them are completely uninteresting to me altogether. The band did just make it into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year so that's good I suppose. This song doesn't sound like it has a climax anywhere and just sort of rambles on until the end which is why it is finally dropping off the list and landing here.

Classic tune from 1985 but not as epic as I used to remember it. Hmm. This time around I seem to really only like the main chorus. The rest sounds like a bad backtrack to some bad 80's dance flick that I'm definitely not interested in. That isn't how I recall it from my childhood though which is weird. Honestly most of this sounds ok though but if you really listen you can tell it hasn't aged all that well. I can see some band remaking this tune but it wouldn't be worth it unless they finessed up the instrumentation a bit and maybe got some more harmonics going. The percussion sounds out of place in a couple spots to me as well. It did extrememly well in the 80's but had some trouble holding down the #1 spot even though it bobbed up and down in the top 10 for a few weeks.

Not gonna lie, I love the intro riff and can groove to the beat a bit. The problem for me is it sounds like there is an instrument in the background that doesn't belong. I'm not skilled enough in hearing to determine what that instrument is but it's whatever sounds like a high pitched synthesizer. It is faint but still noticeable to me. Maybe I'm just hearing things.. or not hearing them properly for that matter. Issue number two is the vocals. I think the lyrics are ok but the vocalist doesn't quite sound metal enough imo. Was this tune used in a game somewhere or parts of it rather. Bits and pieces keep giving me quick flashes of what could be battle music. I don't play enough RPG's to recall where I may have heard the similarities. Anyway, you haven't lost a nomination in awhile I think Paul so I look forward to the rest of them and where they may place.

Oy... this song. I was dating a chick that was a little Country back in the day long before my wife came around and honestly... she almost turned me into some country bumpkin. This tune was one of her favorites. Glad as f*** that I got away from that because I really deep down don't like to listen to Country music for long. I can be fair and recognize a good tune from time to time but it shivers my spine when I have to ride with some of my clients and they turn on Country music. It's especially torture when you are on a 4 hour drive to an out of town event lol. When it comes to this song though the first time I had heard it was from All-4-One so naturally that is the version I prefer. I'd rather be caught listening to some R & B song than a Country one any day.

Best Version IMO:

Hell yeah. Love the basic guitar riff here. I know it can get repetitive if one is in the wrong kind of listening mood but you can feel the raw metal of this tune. Lyrically it has it's awkwardness of course but it's recognizable in many ways and unique enough that it should be recognized. I honestly thought it would go a bit higher than this but it didn't do as well on the charts as I thought it would have. I can't remember the first time I had heard this song but I know I got a ton of experience with it via Guitar Hero. I didn't like playing it at first but once you hit that solo about 2:50 in the jam really takes ahold of you. I just noticed we are inside the Top 200 80's songs here which is cool. How about we knock out a 90's song that should probably have been near the bottom of the list here.

I'm kind of honestly all over the place with this tune. It's got a ton of variety that's for sure but I almost feel like it's a bit too varied in rhythms. At least enough to toss my focus off a few times anyway. My older brother would flip in his grave if he were dead and heard me diss this band. I know that doesn't make sense but it's true lol. I don't mind it as a classic but there aren't a whole lot of replays for me here. It doesn't do anything for me emotionally either which is disappointing. I want to feel the epicness of the overall piece but in the end I'm just not completely satisfied and am feeling like jumping to something else to listen to. Like you know when you hear a song and just feel like you've had enough of that decade? That's what this does to me for the 70's. I think I'd rather listen to the 80's.

I can't remember if this was a fill in from another nominator but it obviously strays from all the other Metalcore that you nominated. It's got a standard Rock drum beat but it sounds like it's got just a little bit more in the rhythm imo. The vocals are unpolished if you ask me but not a whole lot was done perfectly in the 80's since most music was about the instrumentation imo. I still to this day have not watched all of Heavy Metal so I wasn't recognizing this from there. I have heard it plenty of times elswhere though. We are now getting very close to the 5 pointers. First of all, does anyone else think that there are similarities to this and BOC's Astronomy? I kinda hear it in the background about half way through this song (around 3:50 to be exact). Anyway, wow. I wasn't too friendly to the 70's so far in this ranking. Almost 100 of the songs from the decade fell to nothingness. Either I just had a hard time finding stuff I liked from the decade or there just wasn't as much as I thought I liked. I couldn't really get into the beat of this song and the vocals, well let's be honest, are atrocious at first and don't get much better throughout the song. It did ok on the charts but nothing too impressive imo. That aside YAY! We are down 300 songs! Although my bad Bane. That probably feels more like a rubbing in the face since with this nomination down you literally have 1 nomination left. At least you were not eliminated before the Top 1,000 am I rite?

The first thing we can point out here is that this song is significantly less hardcore metal than the rest of your nominations. Woah jeeeeezus what an unexpected intro there. Almost busted my ear drums lol. Where do I begin?... Some of this song is ok or more specifically, I like the quiet atmospheric parts. The vocal track sounds like it is in the background to me or maybe the instruments are just amplified or something. I think if the vocals were not so metalcore that this could be a decent heavy metal song. Not sure why but because of the band name I sort of half expected there to be female vocals. Kinda glad your noms are almost finished though Bane. How do you listen to this music all the time? This song played 4 times while I prepped this ranking and I honestly feel pain behind my eyeballs.

Almost immediately I am not pulled into this song. This is pure noise tbh and there are few moments where I was even entertained as well. I suppose I should just admit right now that I'm not interested in most Hardcore anything. Naturally for that reason I have never heard of this band until now. Oddly enough most of the song would be fine for background noise while getting pumped and productive during a mundane overnight job. If it's one thing that's valuable to an overnighter are tunes that keep you awake lol. Despite my dislike for the song as a whole it surprises me lyrically. Another one down for the Bane-man though. The fans have bumped this a bit for you here Bane although it probably didn't help much since we are still a few rankings away from the Top 1,000 and you are losing another nomination. If I were to like Metalcore I think this would still be middle of the road for me mostly. It doesn't have any noteworthy riff to get stuck in your head at all imo. I had only heard this song a couple times over the years but I'm not sure I had ever actually listened to the whole thing. I like the drum beat right off the bat though. It isn't overly complicated or even that memorable but it goes well with the guitar riff used through most of the song. Something I always have an issue with is that I can never get fully used to Ozzy's high pitched singing as it doesn't always mesh well with the music Black Sabbath created imo. Of course the dude is pretty much an iconic figure at this point so I don't think many folks feel the same as me but it is what it is.

Now this is getting somewhere. It's almost got a good Rage Against the Machine thing going but then 40 seconds in it starts skipping some beats and I get distracted by the yelling again. There are a couple of irregular scales played in the song that are cool and I love the lightning fast Bass Drum around 3:00 minutes in. Other than that there are lots of areas for improvement in the way of catching my attention. Eventually I'm bound to like one of your songs if they keep improving though Bane, I'm sure of it.

Ok. Ok... this is different. I'm sucked into the 80's nostalgia but deep down I'm conflicting with my subjectivity. It's funny and awkward in a charming way (I see you) but... I've never heard this tune before and I'm afraid to like it. Great beat with no argument but the lyrics drag it down with the hightened amount of quirkiness. No normal person would take this song seriously and who could I listen to it on the radio with? I don't know anyone in my personal life that is gonna let me get away with letting this one play. I do get the joke here though and it's obvious the creators had fun with it.

First of all, I had a hard time getting into the beat here since the vocals are so distracting. It almost sounds like neither go together tbh. The band has a fair following and this seems to be a favorite but I'm not seeing what is so thrilling about this tune at all. I'm no expert on Metalcore but I would guess that this is quite mediocre compared to most. I don't know if this song tells a story or is just meant to be noise but the smallest hurdle a song has to jump for me to have an interest is a basic melody. I can't find one here anywhere. The weirdest thing here though is that I like a couple of the drum beats and I wasn't annoyed after having listened to this several times. Is Metalcore starting to grow on me?

Here is some classic Hard Rock and the 2nd tune from Blue Oyster Cult to appear in the ranking. Is this the closest you could get to Metalcore or something Bane? Had it not been invented in the 70's yet? (Just looked that up btw and nope it hadn't been) Anyway, this was in Guitar Hero III and probably one of the least played songs for me there. I guess it's speculated that his song was inspired by a Black Sabbath song. After listening closely I can kinda see that.

This song sounds like an identity crisis. That hardcore came out of nowhere and I wasn't expecting it at all after the intro. The song isn't exactly terrible but it's not exactly great either imo. Yay Metalcore (sarcasm). I really don't mind if screaming happens in some music ala System of a Down style but how do these artists do it with the screaming for the entire song? I think I legitimately had a headache after listening to most of your nominations Bane, no offense. There are some Metalcore tunes I don't mind with a much better beat to them but this one really put a damper on my ambition to rank things. I eventually slogged through it though and here is the lowest scoring Metalcore song in the line up.

Damn Bane. I totally get your demeanor now if this is what you are listening to all the time. I don't really know what the song is about but do I really need to know since it's clear the artists' main intention isn't to be understood? (I know that is a foolish statement based on a personal feeling but...) This is such an angry song and it's not only raised my blood pressure since I've been listening to it but I'm starting to feel kinda anxious. Under all the incomprehensible screaming there is a pretty serious drumbeat that I don't mind here though. The band also has a fair amount of praise from it's fanbase so that's a plus too I suppose. Anyway, moving on...

Write-Up:
So... we are moving in the right direction I guess. This song is better than the previous Metalcore songs for a couple reasons but the main one being that there isn't an overwhelming amount of vocal content this time and we actually get to jam to the beat for a minute. I still have no idea what they are saying but I'm guessing that might be the point of this brand of song? Kind of a brutal video though. Code Orange seems to be a trending band atm on the Metalcore scene though so that's something.

Um... I hope that video doesn't get me modded. There isn't any nudity or anything but it most definitely appears to be a total subjucation of women. Not my intention of course to fire up any snowflakes on the matter but the title of the song is "Girls, Girls, Girls" of course. The 80's were definitely a weird time when it came to outward sexuality wasn't it. Sexual Harassment was a term barely uttered by anyone and movies like Meatballs, Revenge of the Nerds, Porky's and Screw Balls that all glorified youthful perversion were widely accepted. Weird how times change. Don't get me wrong, lots of change has been good and I find it pretty interesting to get to see the human race evolve over time.

Wtf is this song about? Blowing unicorns? That's a weird a** video. Electric Pop at it's best I suppose but I have several other issues with the song. First of all this person is definitely not on my list of beautiful people. Why does her face annoy me so? Anyway, this was a pretty big summer dance hit in 2010 and it seemed like I heard it everywhere. On the beach, at the pool hall, driving in my car, at the bowling alley, at the bar and so on. Glad it's long since faded into obscurity at least in my universe. I don't hear it too often anymore and this little bit here will be enough to last me another 10 years.

A tune of my wifes' choosing once again. Can't say I've ever been too big of a Pink fan but I can't dispute the number of catchy riffs she can come up with. However... far too many of those catchy riffs easily led to redundant annoyances as the mainstream really pisses her stuff all over the radio waves to no regret. I can't recall how many times I've been bouncing from station to station and jump from one of her songs to the same exact song on another station! It's truly ridiculous how overplayed this artist can be. I bet that's awesome for her wallet at least. Anyway, this artist has a pretty big following it seems. Good for her.

Definitely a solid Rock beat going on here and I can see how it could get one motivated during a workout it's just that... I've never done that with this type of tune before. Even when I did workout I usually jammed out to some Linkin Park or Blink 182. The two most consistent bands as far as number of albums that I can fully tolerate start to finish. It was easy to set the disc on replay and not worry about a hiccup in my motivation. Anyway, you may not have noticed but the link that I got during nominations was removed and thus I had to go with the version here. It sounds a bit remastered to me so I apologize if it isn't the original. (It sounds original to me but it's been awhile since I've heard the song so I didn't want to assume).

Hmm. No one had any input or comments on their current standing in the stats update?

Bummer.

Anyway, I'm here for a bit; gonna try and push this to 940 in which we will have to say goodbye to our first eliminated nominator.

Who could it be?

The nominators in the hot seat and their final nominations are...

Bane_Of_Despair --- "Fast Car" - Tracy Chapman
Chinballz --- "I Know You Want Me" - Pitbull
linkhatesganon --- "Killer Queen" - Queen
Simoun --- "We Opened for Weezer" - Nerf Herder

Feel free to take a guess in the topic who you think will be eliminated.

Here we go, I'm about to piss off some Pearl Jam fans. Are there any here? Ten was the only Pearl Jam album that I ever listened to from front to back because it was the only one that had more than 5 songs that I could even tolerate for some reason. The only significance it has for me is a funny story of when I ordered my first ever batch of CD's from BMG music. Remember them? I wonder if they even sell CD's anymore since I'm assuming they should have gone bankrupt by now after giving so much free s*** away. Remember those deals where you could get 13 CD's for a penny each for signing up? Yeah... I had at least a dozen or so faux accounts and never paid more than the startup for a collection of over 100 CD's. I don't feel bad for it either since they were the morons that didn't have a better system in place to prevent douchebag teenagers (like I was at the time) from taking advantage and canceling so many accounts. Anyway... back to my funny story, the very first box of CD's that I opened had this album sitting on top of the stack and I never even ordered it. Interestingly enough I did have some other Pearl Jam cassette tapes before that that I never really listened to.

Some might wonder why I am dropping a 2nd Rolling Stones song so low when I have claimed that the #1 song (If I were to include the 60's) would have been Paint It Black. Well... it's simple. They clearly outdid themselves before their careers ever took off j/k. But honestly I don't know the answer to that question. I feel like I should love the band for as much as I like Paint It Black though. Anyway, I can't help but immediately think of Beavis and Butthead Do America whenever I hear this even though I'm almost positive it doesn't even appear in the movie at all. It has similarities to that Roller Coaster of Love song by the Red Hot Chili Peppers which is what I'm assuming has me convinced it is in the movie.

Write-Up:
This is Cinderella and not the Disney version lol. I always wondered why a metal band would adopt such a cutesy name tbh. Kinda surprised Disney didn't sue over it actually. Anyway, I do like the beat here but it's a bit on the soft side for a Metal song imo. Never really listened to much else from the band although I do like Coming Home and Nobody's Fool even though they will not appear in this ranking. This song is actually their best work in their careers imo which should tell you even more of what I think of the band (placing it so low I mean). Shorter write-up than usual here.

A new genre here with some Classic Metal. Not so classic to me but I kinda get the idea. Meh though. I don't have much to say here surprisingly as I said before that I didn't listen to a whole lot of Metal in the 90's. I only really started to tune in in the late 90's when the mainstream genre was moving to Nu Metal. There's some decent shredding going on and whatnot but nothing really impresses me all that much. According to the internet, this is the longest solo song that Ozzy has ever produced on any of his albums. It doesn't seem like the fans really liked it a whole lot either as it fumbled on a few different charts. It did climb to #5 on the Mainstream Rock chart but it wasn't enough to pull the score higher than mediocre imo.

Kicking off the Top 950 we have possibly the oldest song in the ranking here as the last of the recording was barely inside the new year. It's a decent classic and it may annoy some folks that I've gone and dumped the song here let alone the fact that it's a Beatles song lol. I've known a few Beatles diehards before and they were always super defensive of the band for some reason. Anyway, I do like the song for what it is but If I were gonna place this higher it'd have to be the Jim Sturgess version made for the movie. (Found Below)

Best Version IMO:
Jim Sturgess / Across The Universe OST / 2009
