Like if there's anyone out there with the authority to manage membership on this board please delete mine. I don't want to post here anymore and I would gladly take administrative removal if that's an option.

It would be a great help to making this site more bearable and I'm sure this place would be glad to be rid of me.

I'll submit a feedback ticket if that's what's required to ask to be removed from CE.

I've actually seen an NBA ref flop just so they could eject a player.

It was pathetic but somewhat hilarious in a stupid way.

That said I think player ejections (at least in baseball) seem like car crashes in NASCAR, given the amount of cheering when one happens.

Well, hang on, I met a LOT of people who said they had a lot of self-doubt about parenting until they actually did it and discovered that, while it's a constant learning process, there is an inherent knack for it that you simply have to discover through doing it. You apply your values and virtues to another person who (hopefully) looks up to you and hope it resonates with them while showing affection and understanding - it's all anyone can do.

My biggest concern isn't so much quality of parenting but staying invested in it. Knowing how easily I can lose interest in things or get tired of them if they feel too arduous I have serious questions about how suitable being a parent is for me, because that's a constant test of patience and grace.

I would hate to be like "nah, this ain't for me" and either stop doing a good job or, worse, just want out entirely. Accepting a responsibility doesn't mean you'll be happy about it and that's a serious concern in my mind as I'd hate to do that to a child who deserves a good upbringing.

I feel like bosses are often like "you asked for this, don't tell me you're not up to it," and result in loss in productivity because when someone takes up a challenge that's the end of the discussion, it's theirs and theirs forever.

For instance if the Museum of Metropolitan Art was hosting an exhibit on the works of Vermeer and some dude was standing outside and pointing at the sign with the usual expression would you be like "I gotta check this out."

It depends on certain factors, what was the original purpose of the forum? Is it just a general forum where almost anything goes?

If it's the latter when why should it close down just because it turned into memes and shit posts? If it's the former then maybe, even then it depends. If it's like a Pokemon forum (as an example) and the forum is filled with Pokemon related memes and shit posts then fair game.

Also it also depends on who created the forum and the rules in place, if they don't want memes and shit posts then it's easy to create rules in place to prevent that tbh

Then as a follow-up question what would you say is a clear sign the community needs to end?

Chased the algorithm too hard. All the fun videos went away in exchange for a near constant stream of videos about how bad the industry is. It got stale fast, and you can only hear so many versions of the same content before it just stops being worth checking in.

Probably this. At some point if you cover subjects other content creators are you're bound to start speaking into an echo chamber and the competitive advantage of "your voice" being the one parroting the common thread loses its impact.

You can do that.

Can I really, though? To me it seems as risky as playing devil's advocate on this board where you just get labeled "chud" for going down that path even though you're simply expressing a thought or counterpoint that should be raised in a complete discussion and not a stance or validating something.

Like sometimes I think the people here generally forget how to think critically and respond from the most volatile portion of their mind. There is genuinely a poor standard of argument and discourse on CE. Even trying to speak out against how discussions around here play out feels like putting a target on myself and dismissed as someone who "frequently gets owned for their bad faith takes."

Add to that the propensity for users around here to tag others based on single interactions as "being [THAT]" so they immediately believe a reputation can be built from one exchange of thoughts.

For the record it's not just the US who's being glib about what's going on over there.

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-68721384

The Liberal Democrats, Scottish National Party (SNP) and a former UK national security adviser are calling for sales to be suspended now.

Labour says sales must stop if government lawyers believe Israel risks breaching international law.

The prime minister says the UK has a "very careful" arms licensing regime.

Speaking to the Sun, he called for an independent investigation into the Israeli strike, but stopped short of saying arms sales should end.

Non-committal pleasantries even though the obvious path should be clear as day. Trying to have it both ways. I really don't understand what makes Israel so important that the willingness to commit to cracking down on them is so hard to actually follow through on.

Because as an adult you have two options when voting.

Well really you should have MORE than that but that isn't how reality functions in this country.

The last couple of major elections feel like it should have been the tipping point where people say fuck the big two but the fact we still believe that those are really the only ways an election can play out probably means we will never have better options. We just need a reset that will never come.

I don't think Biden advocates Israel so much as toeing the line. He's said privately he doesn't condone Netenyahu's approach to getting justice for the terror attack but he's trying to stay neutral publicly because of US-Israeli relations.

Personally I think this is disingenuous and it's excusing a self-signed blank check for something that's basically one hop away from full-on ethnic cleansing in the name of keeping the status quo but I also don't think anyone on the opposition would have done anything any different if the other party had power. The people at the top just value being able to keep relations with Israel stable even at the expense of letting wanton abuses of power go without a firm decry.
