there's lots of demand, the supply is unfortunately overpriced; in a healthy market that would create a powerful incentive for developers to flood the market with more of it in a more affordable manner

but i presume there's red tape getting in the way of making this happen

from what i can gather, tiktok was founded/developed by a chinese company (bytedance), though at this point they retain a 20% stake in it. it's headquartered in singapore and the usa, incorporated in a caribbean tax shelter country, and its ceo for the past few years is singaporean.

so yeah, xenophobic witch hunt / moral panic, likely backed by anticompetitive american corporate influences, and a seething political apparatus that can't exert political control / influence / censorship of its content.

i only really consider it cultural appropriation if it strips [all] cultural context and/or lacks attribution to original creators

Might want to also check out the ingredients list. There's another form of -flation called crapflation where they use cheaper ingredients to increase profit margins. All of this shit was happening before the pandemic, but after they went very hard into it, making it that much more obvious.
